I liked the 3.5 Druid that let you put fast healing on your party in exchange for certain things.

Also the wildshape focus one where you could change into a limited number of creatures but could do it more often.

Starting off this thread with some bonus positivity. Tell us about some cute little tick, habit or foible your character has that wasn't important enough to mention in his backstory.

Has anyone wanted to run a game, or has run a game, in the criminally underdeveloped setting known as Star Fox?
15 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>51114560
Yes. I used the Simple d6 System (3e) rather than say GURPS because I could tell my players were not up for the manuals upon manuals, and in the games, all the characters were fairly generalist with only slight specialization, so I did not want to encourage point buy minmaxing. The easiest distro to find is on 1d4chan. Link for the lazies: https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Simple_D6_-_Third_Edition

My friends and I had just been binge-watching Dirty Jobs, and inspired by that, the players made a clean-up and recovery / salvage crew named Star Beetle, as in Dung Beetle which was their mascot. The characters were:

Pat the Hippopatimus, the acrofatic muscle guy who mostly regulated himself to operating the cranes and exogear for pulling in salvage. He tried mercenary work a la Star Fox but found that the lack of work between major conflicts was terrible, and he always burned through all his money before the next big score because he could not into finances. So to hell with that, he was going to get an honest job clearing space of clutter and valuable components that really should not just be left in space.

The next characters were Boris the Boar who got geekboners over minerals and became the accountant because no one else knew how to money IC or OOC. He was recruited by Pat.

Next was Rocky the Raccoon who first proposed Nigger the Coon but switched immediately after he got Carlos-tier groans from us. He mostly regulated himself with navigating but put a skill in operating the equipment. Also recruited by Pat.

Paco the Possum was a stowaway who went exploring and then reflexively played dead when the ship's engine started. They found him later, and eventually they allowed him to stay because he was the only one who could cook more than just warming up protein bars. He jack-of-all-trades'ed his way through most stuff which added up to repairing and dismantle things a bit better than the others.

Honestly the stigma of furry shit that setting can lead too tends to deter people from it.
>>
>>51115640
So with the motley crew assembled, they went to work. They hacked away at floating debris, shot down some scavengers, got into a brief scuffle over salvage rights... which got defused by Paco giving the other team real food because it turns out almost no space-fairer can cook anything that isn't ready after defrosting. They came to an equitable arrangement because the salvage was obviously way too big for either of their piddly ships to take everything.

Boris identified a broken module that at first looked like junk but had a valuable reagent in it which was worth quite a bit as a valuable ingredient. They sailed home, upgraded their scanners before anything else, and set out again.

They find another derelict vessel blown to pieces- something where there never seem to be enough people to clean up in the vastness of space- and tether their ship to it. After some searching, they find another salvage crew's ship. Their scanners were focused on tracking ships but terrible at anything else, so the players determined that they must just follow other crews around and poach. Peeved, the players started searching for their competition.

It was then that they found one of the other crew, a weasel dressed in red. They pointed guns at each other, and the weasel shouted at them to "Get out!" and various things along the same lines. Before things could come to blows though, an unknown, quick, and aggressive organism flies out of a rubbish heap and tries to wrap it's many legs around the Weasel. He shoots it, where it explodes and sprays something corrosive all over him which was potent enough to melt several misshapen holes through the poor bastard.

The players quite reasonably decided to nope right out of there, but they were cut off from either vessel by more enemies. They jumped a door with their emergency battery (something they bought a couple missions ago with the express purpose of giving doors and things enough juice to open up enough space for a crowbar.

I really enjoyed the movie, it only flopped because dumb critics called it a rip off of Star Wars despite vice versa being the truth since Barsoom series was written long before Star Wars

Didn't help that the movie had an incredibly bland title. I had no idea what it was until I saw a review for it after it had left theatres.

Modiphius is working on one right now. There's also a retroclone called Warriors of Mars, IIRC. Kind of a "what if D&D had been based on John Carter rather than Conan". There's the Revelations of Mars expansion for Hollow Earth Expedition, Space 1889, then there're a bunch of other games like Tales of the Space Princess or even Carcosa, in a sense. Amazing Warriors of Hyperborea, or whatever it's called. Technically, it's that, since it takes place on another planet (or maybe on a very, very far future Earth).

They're there if you look them up.

I'm just starting to make my character for a game and I'm looking to get some ideas from you guys

Its a GURPS game set in Noir era, with magic elements (so almost modern fantasy). And my character is going to be an inventor of sorts, tinkerer if you will.

Im just starting so all I've got so far is A rogue type who invents gadgets to help him steal things, inventions like a bend held grappling hook, propelled smoke pellets, maybe some kind of stun gun.

tl;dr What is either another type of inventor or other inventions for a noir age inventor

What do you mean by "Noir" because it seems like you're throwing that term around when you mean "Steampunk".
>>
Bombs, all kinds of them with all kinds of variations.

Fog grenades on a fuse, shrapnel impact bombs that have to be thrown hard enough to trigger (maybe with an individually build launcher?), poison gas mines.

Or
poison gas grenades on a fuse, fog impact bombs and fog mines
etc.

The only limit is your imagination on how they should trigger and the material you can get for what effect they trigger with.

Given enough time to train and experiment you can replicate the effects through applied use of the first. Just not the fourth because intrinsic opposites don't mesh and to give some reason to choose something else.

Imperium.jpg

Ave, los/tg/uardsmen.

I am looking for an advice on how to make turn unquantifiable into quantifiable. One of the great things about 40k universe is how vast it is and how hard it is to describe the size of the Imperium - it gives a lot of space for creative freedom. However I am currently running an online game where it might possibly become relevant to have a map of the whole Imperium, as I intend to push past the 999.M41 and as Imperium starts falling apart/launches a new great crusade, it might become relevant how exactly

I was thinking of splitting Imperium into around 300 Sectors:
Segmentum Solar: 30
Ultima Segmentum: 110
Segmentum Obscurus: 40
Segmentum Tempestus: 40
Segmentum Pacificus: 30
Lost sectors/unexplored space/galactic rim: 50

Lexicanum has around 60+ Sectors named and listed listed, the rest would be created.

Do you think this is a reasonable representation of the Imperium that a High Lord of Terra would have to work with? I assume that there are thousands more "sub-sectors" or sectors of smaller significance, but those are simply are not listed as they are not important enough.

How would you imagine/what advice would you give for a grand strategy narrative/gameplay on such a scale?

Finally, feel free to suggest Sectors of your own. Name, a couple of sentences about a sector. While with this math I assume that each Sector on average has 4000 inhabited worlds, feel free to ignore this as the importance is not the number of worlds, but their strategic significance, etc.

I am running a Space Marine Chapter simulation on /qst/, but the principle is similar, so yeah, I would like it to be transferable to other games. It would be ideal if we could get a drawfag or something.

>>51113427
You tell me. That's my guesstimate for what seems reasonable and still manageable for gameplay reasons, but I am open to criticism if you have a better suggestion regarding numbers/ proportion.

Creating a new system for Pathfinder and i need some armor enchantment ideas for an Early Steampunk (very early steam engines, firearms, etc.) + High Fantasy type setting.

Any help?

Not really an enchantment but you could make armor that has a boiler built in that releases steam for some type of close range damage and a mist that makes the user more evasive
>>
>>51112782
Cool idea.

Definitely gonna consider it.

Some more info on the system:

It's a system that uses the Steam/Arcane energy to power runeplates, which are inscribed with Arcane Runes, that cause different magical effects.

You can mix/match Runeplates and even switch them out mid-day.

Having purchased Xenonauts during the Christmas Steam sale and having played it a lot and losing all of my best men every time terror missions start popping up, I've decided that an X-Com esque setting would be great for a TTRPG campaign. It has all the makings of a good campaign: an alien invasion, the threat of the annihilation of mankind, a slowly escalating threat that increases in power over time, getting new gear based on what the enemy brings to earth, squad based tactics et cetera. The problem is that I'm a TTRPG babby who has only played D&D 3.5e and 5e.

What system would work best for an X-Com esque game? Preferably something that's easy to pick up and doesn't require me to roll for anal circumference.
7 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>51112174
Honestly, for most groups it would be ideal. The GM just plays the part of the administrator and sends the team on missions. No roleplay, just throwing dice and killing stuff followed by upgrades and promotions.
>>
>>51112174
BRP, especially since you can take the math from reboot XCOM or Xenonauts, your preference, and turn it straight into the skills and modifiers used. The only thing stopping XCOM from being a perfect 1-1 translation to a board game is the clusterfuck that is LOS.
>>
>>51112174

Ah, terror missions. That blessed time you just go full psycho with grenades, rockets, heavy machineguns, and drag along the armored car or tank. They're gonna nuke the city if you fail, so even levelling every building is justifiable.
