this guy has a point.

Is Vampire Nighthawk cheesy? Do you intentionally avoid playing "cheese" against your friends?
>>51136734
This is like, the fairest fair card in fair town.
How is this in any way cheesy? I mean, it's a vampire, I guess...?
Me and my friends usually seek out cheese and play against it. If you actively avoid cheese, learning how to counter it when you come across it will be difficult.
>>51136757
That's an overpowered card right there. Flying alone on a 2/3 for 3 is pretty decent for black, and either deathtouch or lifelink would have been fair, but both are a nasty combination. It's only saving grace is that it's still within bolt range.
A fair card, and you need not look any further, is something like Skyknight Legionnaire. When you compare a nighthawk to the skyknight, it's kind of obvious why people would think the former is a bit much.

DMing my first session of d&d on Sunday but I'm drawing blanks on what to throw at the characters.
There's a spy character that I want to have give quests for the party to do. What's some good spy-like quests for five level 2 players to do? Please help me guys
>>51133655
The party's friendly neighbourhood bakery har been burglared and the super secret creampie recipe has been stolen!
Are they bad enough dudes to gather intelligence on whodunnit, sneak into the rivaling bakery(bakeries) and and find out who stole the recipe?
Add gingerbreadmen, cookiemonsters and rats in the basements as you see fit.
Roleplay focused:
Spy knows that there is a dangerous criminal in a particular tavern. The criminal is aware of his identity and has obscured its own appearance. Fond the criminal.
Combat:
An upstart lord hired some tunneling kobolds to ruin the warehouses of another lord. The spy needs some agents that cannot be connected to him to stop them.
Dress up as another band of rival rogues and create a big mess and frame them in order to benefit the spy character's agendas.
Sup, /tg/.
I will be playing a RPG for the first time soon, and for various reasons, people are thinking about doing through the internet.
As I never played before, so I don't know if it is as fun as a real-life face-to-face session.
Anyone more experienced could give me opinions about the matter?
>>51133315
Playing online is different than playing in meatspace. It is arguable that it is better, as you have an easy text log of what has happened and digital aids such as dice rollers, macros, maps, and linked character sheets built into many platforms and the sometimes difficult logistics of assembling the group in a single location are not necessary.
However, some people value being in the same space as the other players, generally because they enjoy the company of the players, being "friends." They can then share snacks and beverages, use body language to communicate, and some like the feel of using paper sheets, dead-tree books, physical dice, and figurines or graph paper.
These are both valid opinions, and one does not replace the other. Hopefully this explanation helps you understand the subject to a sufficiently satisfactory degree.
>>51133634
Thanks for your answer, anon. It gave me much insight on the subject.
A part of me feels like "my first time should be special!", but playing online do seems more comfortable for me. I guess I was just being a little bitch.
>>51133741
Good luck out there, kiddo. Some general advice:
Watch out for flakes and, even worse, the people who are there but are distracted the whole time. Ideally, a GM can keep everybody on task and reasonably engaged, but every so often you'll get a player who hops into games of Overwatch or something when it's not their combat turn and don't pay attention to what's happening.
Good players and good GMs keep their attention on what's happening in the game. This is easier when using voice for most things, but some folks like to type all their in-character stuff. It's not wrong, but it needs more discipline and slow typers can be left behind in RP.
Try to be punctual. It's frustrating when the whole group has to wait an hour for the guy who takes extra time to take a shower and make a sandwich instead of taking care of shit beforehand and being ready to play at the appointed time. Everybody's making space in their schedule for the game; if you won't or can't, you shouldn't be fucking it up for the others.
Know your character, too, and have the necessary references at hand, especially in combat. Think ahead. Nobody likes waiting several minutes while someone looks up a spell and hems and haws over what they'll do. When your initiative cycles around, be ready to go. This helps keep things moving in combat. Obviously, a good group will be able to help you out if you're new, and have a little patience.

So I promised a few drawbacks and made them as a warm-up.What A Weasel [+100] - Well this is...annoying. A side effect of you entering the world the way you did is that you’re now a tiny white weasel-thing with floppy ears, looking almost identical to Kyubey or a member of his race. Your other abilities still work just fine, but any attempts to look different or remove this form just don’t work. Expect people to have trouble taking you seriously...or pinning Kyubey’s many, many swindled wishes on you. You may keep this as an altform, post-jump, if you wish.
You Little Bastard! [+200] - Kyubey considers the current system of magic and Wraith-killing to be far too inefficient for his kind’s taste, and the ineffable Law of Cycles both a mystery and a drastic limitation on what he could possibly obtain to save the universe. Lucky him, then, that he detected your arrival and figures out what you are minutes after the jump begins. He will identify you explicitly as ‘The Jumper’ to anyone who asks, too, which can be a shock for anyone close to your background.
The good news is that he’s content to just observe you and constantly pester you with questions regarding your adventures...at least, at first. The bad news is that he will be taking notes on things regarding your Warehouse, and any technology or magic that you use from outside this world. He will also regularly direct Wraiths and strong Magical Girls to combat you, wanting to see as much of your ‘potential’ as possible. And no matter what, whatever ‘solution’ he comes up with using your copied (or at least ‘inspired by’) repertoire always seems to turn out bad for everyone, you especially. What’s worse? Any attempts to permanently kill him or render his race extinct or non-functional will fail. If you keep the outside context things hidden or display as little as possible, he won’t have much to work with...but do you really want to rely on the ‘gifts’ of the Incubator during your time here?
>>51131634Hexed [+200] - Although the mission statement of Magical Girls is to bring hope, in practice, it just boils down to ‘kill Wraiths’ with enough regularity to keep on surviving. Still, mental stability does an excellent job of adding to a Magical Girl’s life span, so it’s very rare to see one who’s genuinely insane or evil. Unfortunately for you, this is one of the exceptions.
This Magical Girl is a psychopath, pure and simple, a serial killer in the making...or already in progress, thanks to their newfound powers. They’re strong enough to survive in territory where almost everyone wants them dead, and unpredictable and violent enough to be a problem as far as everyone in the city is concerned. Finally, they’ve decided that killing YOU personally is a great time for them. Their insanity and craving for violence is enough that despair or disappearing into the Law of Cycles just doesn’t seem to take - something that mystifies Kyubey.
You must contend with this hostile Magical Girl who wants to fight you and see you dead at any cost. Attempts at diplomacy are just asking for trouble at the most. Should you strike them down, they will vanish and come back the following week, good as new and just a little more ferocious. How vexing.
So what jumps would you like to see but don't know/can't be bothered to make?
What sort of spirits would you find in a tree farm? Just normal forest spirits with some subtle oddities, or would they be radically different?
Are you familiar with the Grain Nymph from AD&D 2E?

Excuse me your excellencies for disturbing your diplomatic negotiations, but a powerful Overlord is on a conquest spree!
I got the news from a arcane familiar of one of the court mages from the far west. The Overlord's armies are unlike anyone has ever met. Though humans make up more than half of his warriors, he also has many other races serving him.
Centaur Cavalry, armed with lances, swords, axes and shields with the addition of unique armors. That's seems normal at first, but those centaurs also have archers, crossbowmen and musketeers on them, creating a terrifying military formation.
Werewolves and other lycanthropic creatures fight alongside the warriors in the Overlord's army along with Giants, Lizardmen, Elves...even Orcs and Minotaurs are here. He even somehow managed to gain a harem of female Genes to fight for him. The latter is unbelievable, since the Kalifs can only have these and only up to six of them (the Sultan himself having twelve), but he managed to gain twenty four of them!!
Not only his forces are varied, but he also managed to recruit various groups of warriors, spellcasters and brought with him gunpowder weapons made on a massive scale. A scale we didn't achieve yet. Not only that, he has strange flying fortresses in his armies that serve to house dragon and griffin riders, as well as having strange arcane devices that produce lightning. He somehow even managed to be acknowledged by both Death Knights and Paladins as these two groups are fighting for him like brothers-in-arms, not to mention Necromancers and Archmages fighting together. THIS IS INSANE!!
And the worst part? The people from the conquered kingdoms hail him and his warriors as if they were heroes and liberators. Yes the kings of these kingdoms were a little too harsh, but not to the point that their people would choose the Overlord over them!
What should we do your excellencies? How to fight against someone who inspires such unity and who wields such incredible power?
>>51129398
Fuck 'em. Literally. an army can't march with drained nuts.
>>51129419
