What would be the best system to run a horror game where the PC's are children/youths lost in a mystical forest?
Also any tips or ideas would be appreciated and if you want some spook images too
Monsters and other childish things seems perfect for this
World of Darkness has an Innocents game.
>>51131755
From a quick look at a summery, yes it does. How does it fair with things like witches and fae that are less monstery but still mystical.
>>51131768
There are a lot of World of darkness games, do you have a name for that one?
Just in general.
In what context would you decide to fudge the numbers a bit?
Absolutely, as a GM. Sometimes I roll the dice for randomness, other times I already know the result I want and just like the sound the dice make.
Well, uh, technically, nah.
>>51128262
Yes, but only as a GM, and only in favor of the players. Generally it'll be if they're getting absolutely destroyed by something that was meant to be fairly easy.

Sorry for getting back so late.
Are you guys ready for Combo Winter 2: Electric Boogaloo?
It's not comparible to any of the shit printed in Urza's blocks dude
This combo looks really powerful but both pieces are in isolation worse than splinter twin or kikjiki resto
Shali is pretty bad on her own and doesnt affect the board on tirn 3, likewise the cub on its own on 4 is a weak play, so unless your opponent has no interactiom whatsoever it's not that good
It will ve god but won't destroy the fornat
Who cares, if they drop the cat before saheeli you can just Reflector Mage it and kill the whole combo.
>>51124368
>>51124506
It's not just the kitty. There's a whole bunch of potentially degenerate stuff in the set that could end up ending the game turn 5 or so.
Also, Reflector Mage got banned.

Hometown future fantasy edition
How'd your last run go?
How hard is it to adapt the classic adventure modules to 4th or 5th edition?
I'm thinking about running the classics like Queen Euphoria and Universal Brotherhood, but I don't think my players would really go for using 1E rules.
>>51123403
Pretty damn well. It was years ago when 4th came out.
It was a "simple" job about obtaining a crate labelled "rifle parts." My memory is hazy 'cause I was in college and very sleep-deprived at the time but highlights I remember were:
>it started with my face tied to a chair
>it somehow led to the whole team fighting a cyberzombie
>we had no street samurai
>our adept shot a helicopter down with a pistol
>our infiltrator detonated an entire building to cover our escape
My vague memories of it all do however bring up a feeling that makes me think that all in all it was pretty fucking cool. Ever since I've been trying to start a game with my friends, even if I have to be the first GM in the group for months.
Does anyone else feel that the very existence of resurrection spells undermines a lot of potential character drama its hard to have a character make a heroic sacrifice or whatever when they can be brought back with a spell at any point past the mid level range
>>51122118
Our 5e DM just removed resurrection magic for player use. Reanimation magic like Animate Dead is still fair game but anything that could do what you mentioned is removed.
We actually really like it. Might be the new gold standard for our games
>>51122118
In OD&D, Raise Dead is a 5th level spell (the highest level of Cleric spells).
Only 7th level Clerics could cast it, and Clerics progression costs are only detailed to 8th level.
God forbid you try to cast the shitty Magic-User knockoff, Reincarnation. That was a 6th level spell.
M-Us have to be at least 12th to cast it, and M-U progression costs are only detailed up to 11th.
>>51122118
I kind of assumed it was widespread common practice that almost everyone banned Ressurection/Reincarnation from their games unless they were specifically going for a high-lethality "videogamey" kind of feel. In 5 years of gaming I've only seen a DM allow that kind of magic once and we were literally playing in "virtual reality" that game.
So a fellow Fa/tg/uy and I were recently dicussing the concept of Vampire Counts and how the could be implemented into /tg/, and here's what we've come up with so far
Once upon a time there was an Imperial Sector full up with Nobles of all sorts who had existed within a strictly regimented eugenically based state before the IOM came and nommed them up.
Over time their incestuous ways [Insert webbed toe joke] and general dicking around with warpy drugs resulted in the whole nobility of the system falling under a simple very, very fucked up bloodline.
Along with most of the physical deformities and embarassment that comes with inbreeding to shit, the chaps had also somehow picked up an inherited birth defect that effectively acted as Sickle Cell on steroids: they could no longer produce any blood cells of their own and autosanguine was violently rejected by their body.
Fearing the extinction of their precious bloodline, the clan's members quickly set upon a solution: use the vast numbers of serfs accumulated on their planet sized feudal estates as a massive blood bank.
As things grew even more desperate, they skipped the blood bag entirely and went straight to the source, adopting cybernetic fangs that drew blood from their victims directly into their veins.
Of course, this rampant mutanting and mysterious dissapearance of large swathes of their peasants didn't go unnoticed, and the Imperium quickly dropped the hammer on the chumps.
Said chumps, however, due to the Counts unification under a certain Von Carstein and the mutation's secondary effects of spawning fucktons of really powerful Psykers with the ability to, albiet inneficiently, navigate the Warp (Some Navis Nobilite blood must have slipped in there somehow) and the Imperium's more pressing matters on other fronts, the bastards managed to hold off and survive.
Now, isolated and growing ever more twisted, the Transylv'an sector of the Vampyre Counts descends into a black mirror of the IOM
Moar details incoming on
-Ships
-Infantry
-Culture
I'd think that if they're going to have chaos-y ties, they should generally be Slaaneshi. Khorne is oversaturated, Nurgle is pretty well represented in the playerbase, and Tzeentch has been getting all kinds of new toys in the latest updates.
Shedding blood only to sustain those weakened by sickness and for their own perverse pleasure would be suitably abhorrent to Khorne to be a good jab in the nuts from She who Thirsts. Besides, it's right there in the name.
Aight so ships first I suppose, as getting around is pretty important.
Even before they degenerated into disgusting mutants, the Counts had dwelled largely within massive austere sattelite-manors that orbited their planetary estates (preferring isolation to interacting with the scum on the surface) and they have continued to serve them well in their current form.
Their gloomy halls and windowless chambers provide protection for their delicate skin, and, as each Manor is equipped with orbital and ship-to-ship weaponry, a means of supressing revolts below and Imperial incursions from the outside.
In their years of isolation, the Counts have experimented out of neccessity with technology, applying their latent psychic talents to assembling great weapons of war.
This can be seen most prevelantly by the means in which they power their craft: not through fuel of any conventional means, but through raw psychic power.
Of course, powering an entire ship on ones own would invariably result in overexertion and subsequent death, so the Counts employ the assistance of thousands upon thousands of brainwashed Thralls who are literally burned out like cheap bateries as living fuel.
In mathematical terms, a Count wishing to take his Satellite-Manor to coordinates X, Y would need to expend X amounts of Thralls in order to do so.
Similarly, they would need to use X number of Thralls to fire a shot of X power level at an incoming ship.
As to FTL travel, this is supplied by the Counts themselves, who act in the role of Navigator (possessing, as I said, several degrees of Navigator blood in their complex pedigrees)
While the counts are perfectly capable of facilitating Warp Travel, this comes at great risk and expenditure to themselves, and most prefer to keep their manors fairly sedentary, using traditional STL travel methods and gravitational forces for travel when needed and large numbers of low ranking Vampires to supplement their strength when warp travel is needed
What should the afterlife be like in an rpg?
What is the afterlife like in your setting?
In setting, why did that form of afterlife come to exist?
Out of setting, why do you use that form of afterlife versus others and are there mechanical benefits?
I feel the afterlife should resolve issues of the soul's mortal life and reflect their choices, offer rewards and punishment, and possibly redemption or a return to the mortal world.
In my world, most of the setting's souls pass on to one of two planes of existence: one of peace and one of justice.
They were created as a resolution for restless souls by the ancient God of Death.
I wanted to have a form of Heaven and Hell, but not be bound to simplistic good vs evil or any one religion's dogma.
Actually, I'd like /tg/ to help challenging my setting's afterlife.
Send me your souls /tg/!
As the night goes on, I will take examples of souls and determine where they would end up.
What does this accomplish?
It helps me find possible holes in my system and might be more fun than dueling shitposters.
Nobody knows, the most common views are
1. In the modern civilization, its a Heaven/Hell view
2. In the East its a reincarnation view
3. In the ancient world, they believed all dead went to a dark underworld where spirits were overtaken by ennui but no real torments.
>>51118479
What the fuck kind of a shitty ying-yang bullshit dichotomy is that? Peace opposed to justice? What the actual fuck.
>>51118479
The Afterlife in my setting is essentially just an endless dream. When mortals sleep they temporarily visit this realm, albeit unconsciously and they rarely remember what happened.
The afterlife itself is formless and changes around those inside of it, usually depicting the life and memories of those residing there. Your soul can wander the infinite expanse, changing it as you see fit but over time your soul will weaken until it is no longer conscious, essentially in a vague dream for eternity.
The stronger one's soul, the longer they can remain coherent. Because of this, ancestor worship is the primary religion of the world, and frequent prayers and sacrifices to your ancestors keeps their soul strong. If souls are strong enough, they can even be called upon by worshipers in their hour of need and bestow strength or blessings. The official organized religion canonizes heroes as Saints that are universally worshiped, but people will also pay homage to their own families as well.
Don't see the harm in keeping these going.
