Sup /tg/? Here's my first ever attempt at sculpting with stale chewing gum.

Adjust your focus anon. Can't see shit desu.
Hey /tg/.
I've never been here before but other boards have pointed me this direction so I wanted to see what you guys would have to say.
I am a game developer to be, I'm trying my hardest to learn everything I can. Im nearly at the level where I am competent enough to begin work on my first game. I am satisfied with my ability to self critique and advance in nearly every area except storytelling and world building.
How do you start laying down the grounds for a solid believable world?
How do you lay out a story?
Whats the process?
We have a wordbuilding general but is not up atm, look on the archives for their resources.
>>51148194
Think about everything in the world. From religion to what food eat the pigs every friday night.
Well, it's a impossible question. Unlike other hobbies, like writing, programming, or drawing, there's no process, software, or technique that's standard. It's all just made up and unique to the person doing it!
My personal process is to create 1-2 little ideas every day. Over the past 6-8 years I've got hundreds of them, and I combine them into a cohesive world. It's slow, and plotting, but what I do.
I would suggest these resources:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLduA6tsl3gygXJbq_iQ_5h2yri4WL6zsS
http://www.sfwa.org/2009/08/fantasy-worldbuilding-questions/
And here, /tg/. Ask specific questions, run ideas off people, and mind the autistism.

First for Fall of Cadia not so bad. But they could do better.
First for Drachnyancat is a duck.
Ok
Celestine and Abaddon datasheet only. 1v1 no extra shit beside the things inside their datasheet.
Go!
What does the inside of a Tesseract Vault look like?
If nobody knows, let's map out the interior of one.
By the description it's just a bubble of space curved in on itself. Bring a lamp and you may get a hall of mirrors effect as you look straight ahead and see the back of your own head, or the space may be large enough that it's just black in all directions. You could then put whatever you so desire in there, but by itself there'd be nothing.
>>51146951
>>51146951
Time doesn't pass inside a Tesseract Vault, does it? Wouldn't a Human inside theoretically perceive absolutely nothing except being sucked in and let out?
What are some good science fantasy settings besides Star Wars, or good future fantasy settings besides Planescape and 40k?
>40k
>good
Pick one.
>>51146659
Nigga, 40K is science fantasy.
>>51146988
It's a good setting.
Just, not a good story.
What affects did these Pariahs have on the Emperor, the Webway or Magnus?
Nothing because the sisters of silence were a stupid idea like all of the Horus Heresy novels that blatantly contradicts all preceding fiction and information about the setting.
>>51146604
Nocturnal emissions.
Pretty sure the Emperor just tanked it.
The Emperor has always been portrayed as a big hulking wizard who dun giv no fuks. So I think he just tanked it.
Anyone have any experience playing a character that is mute? or uses methods other then talking to communicate?
>>51146140
Various gestures and improvising sign language.
She was also completely illiterate.
>>51146140
Whistling, hissing, and clicking noises, along with finger noises can do a great deal.
People forget that mute =/= deaf, and whistling can be very expressive.
>>51146218
Thanks man, did you find it interesting to role play?
What would a futuristic setting look like if it were designed by medieval christian theologians?
Warhammer 40K.

Previous thread.
I'm making a "loot the ancient pyramid" one shot that I'll DM soon enough.
Party will probably be 2 Artificers (Alchemists), 1 Cleric (Nature), 1 Rogue (Thief).
Any tips? What can I throw at them except Yuan-Ti & serpents?
I'll probably pit them against a rival crew, just to fuck with them and shake things up a bit.
So Alchemist's Fire is 5 foot Radius. Is that 4 Square or 9 Square in Grid combat?
>>51145798
It says radius, not diameter, so should be a 9 square.
>>51145772
Adding to the question: is The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan (C1) adventure any good? I know it'll be in Tales from the Yawning Portal. As it is, it looks a bit ... outdated. And tedious as fuck.
44 pages of size8 text. Ugh.
Which Ryuujin is best for Occult Mystery like Mushishi?
Black ryuujin seems to be the best for games about mystery and horror.
Blue.

A thread died for this
How do you handle running campaigns in established settings, /tg/?
Do you allow and/or expect the players to completely rewrite that universe's history? Or do you keep your campaign isolated to prevent the possibility from arising?
Do you allow the "power levels" of established characters to fluctuate, so long as their relative power between each other is the same? Or do you strive to keep them all exactly the way they are portrayed?
Do you strictly keep to what's considered "canon"? Or do you pick and choose for your own custom version, adding in spin-off material and possibly even throwing out major established cornerstones?
>>51144341
Trying to keep things canon feels optimal to the players, because if things keep canon the players feel like their game could be canon, thus enriching the original setting in their mind.
If the canon is broken even once (for real), then make the world react to it majorly.
Treat it as canon, but not make it rigid. Shit can change, idgaf.
>>51144341
Most of the time I try to keep harder to themes and tone than actual content. It's because of this that I'd rather run "alternate but similar" settings, as opposed to the real thing.
This also allows the players to get more powerful without concerns either for me or them about overshadowing canon characters, or stepping on future plots.
Most players don't care that it's "knock-off" Star Wars so long as they get to run around as force adepts and bounty hunters in spaceships in a Fantasy setting in space with Sci-Fi elements. The ones that do are usually the kind that you don't want in your group anyway.
Hey remember that time two first founding chapters got their asses handed to them by the Tau? And these are two of the fastest and mobile chapters available. If they can barely keep up with the Tau elite who can? Baring in mind the Tau already know about the codex astartes and can outrange the best chapters.
What would a Space Marine chapter dedicated to fighting Tau look like?
>>51144309
You do realize that was just Tau wank, right, and no matter what answer anyone provides, Tau will still win. Oh, I didn't realize you were a retard, my bad.
>>51144309
