What the fuck are you supposed to do in YGO when an opponent plays a monster that's just bigger than yours? You can't attack it with multiple smaller monsters because the damage isn't cumulative. And you can't attack through it either.
This game seems broken. Not the crazy combos, but the game's fundamental logic at its most basic level seems broken. Playing a bigger monster is autowin, barring card effects.
>>55075438
Is this bait?
You use spell and trap cards to either destroy the monster or get a bigger monster.
>>55075464
That is retarded design. Why isn't there a built-in way to kill one large monster with multiple smaller monsters?
>>55075502

I know a lot of people who switched from MtG to boardgames due to cost and other reasons. So how did this sell? How could Magic profit off old players and nostalgia if they were smart? Seems like an open market.
>>55072957
Old mtg players just cube.
Nostalgia cube. The market is open because quasi-magic sucks. there's plenty to do within mtg if you have half a brain which oldfags usually do.
Did you just want to make a thread?

Well it's an interesting discussion, I think Wizards is recognizing that some of their sealed products can approximate closed board games and they seem to be rising to the demand. Products like Commander and Duel Decks can allow players to get some great games of Magic out of the box without needing to spend hundreds of dollars cracking packs and buying singles. And with Planeschase Anthology, Archenemy Nicol Bolas and the upcoming Explorers of Ixalan, we now get to play Magic as a board game, as you say. So we're seeing plenty of ways of playing Magic as a closed system game, some of which is even venturing into board games for casual audiences.
To answer your question I have no idea how it performed but I certainly snapped it up when it released and have had plenty of fun with it as games nights. I've been recommending it to friends of all Magic involvement levels. I hope Explorers of Ixalan does as well.
Personally I have a Cube and I always keep the last year of Commander precons sleeved up right out of box so I can get some games in on the snap with guests. I also have like 15 Pauper decks I was able to assemble for less than a Modern Jund deck.
>>55072957
The idea of using preconstructed decks as a way to have affordable Magic suffers from the problem that playing somebody else's deck isn't fun.

How could a strong empire disintegrate? My empire is by far the strongest nation on the continent. Now I can not find any way to disintegrate/balkanize the empire.
>>55072388
Strong empires doesn't disintegrate. Weakened ones that were once strong do though. Things like internal strife, plagues or economic stress from massively destructive and/or long wars can put them into a tailspin among other things.
Just Kill off a lot of the rulers in the empire and the society will have no one to rule it leading to Socio-Economic Collapse
>>55072388
Well, succession wars seems the most obvious I guess. Civil wars are devastating, and fitting to a powerful empire as pretenders will may tend to take their empire position for granted. SO they may focus on their position inside the empire while neglecting the position of the empire in the world. "What the issue with sacrificing distant border provinces if it allow me to take the capital?", that sort of things.
And foreign powers may even have the opportunity to fuel the civil war to weaken the empire even more.
Reminder that there is literally nothing wrong with playing as a thrallherd, they're actually a pretty fun class.
Something something something, subjective morality dillemia.

dear /tg/,
are there any sci-fi systems which focus on the planet orbital "zone".
i.e. not just fucking about in space, not just fucking about on the ground, but flying around in atmosphere, docking with space-stations, flying up and down to the ground, chasing down and fixing satellites
>>55071801
Well, there's this, but I should mention that it's specifically solar system rather than just earth orbit.

Hey guys, does anyone know if an unofficial translation of Vienne by night exists?
Officialy is only in german, and I don't speak it.
It's my first time running Vampire The Masquerade in a big city that I don't know (we usually do our hometown) and europe doesn't receive a lot of love in the Cities by Night series... america feels too much alien for us as a setting.
Alternitavely, how exactly does an ST goes about building a city? What's the modus operandi?
>>55071738
You from Hungaria? Vienna's just Prague without the medieval parts and with more royal mummies all across the city.
>>55072003
I'm from Italy. Not really familiar with Prague either.
List an RPG, book, video game, or anime setting, etc. that you DON'T like, say why you don't like it, then say something positive you can nevertheless learn from it to make your RPGs better (as player or GM)
Positive i.e. not "how not to _____" or "what not to do"

Pathfinder
Why it sucks: 3.5 was bad out of ignorance and incompetence. Pathfinder was made intentionally bad to appeal to grogs and casterfags.
Why it's good: Keeps furries, grogs, casterfags, weebs, pedophiles and other trash in a containment community instead of letting them infest everything.
>>55071571
Legend of the Wulin's setting always felt too in depth for its own good. The book spends 138 pages on history, organisations, relationships and philosophies. To me, this always felt odd for a system which had the strength of being able to easily centre conflict and world building around the characters and their personalities. Conflicts in LotW usually relate personally to the PCs and the entanglements allow you to flesh out the world using a character's connections to different parts of it. As such all the bigger picture stuff feels restrictive to telling that kind of personalised narrative.
I guess the lesson to be learned here is two-fold. Firstly setting and a system can individually be good and just not match, I still think LotW has a really interesting setting. Secondly that the amount or focus of a setting should fundamentally be driven by the kinds of narratives you're expecting to tell in that setting.

1st is fun but lorewise not up to date and too unbalanced, even for Warhammer.
3rd is shit all around. Forget 3rd.
How do you guys use music in your games? Is it constantly on or when combat starts? High volume or quiet background? Should I even bother using it?
Last session I rain I had some ambient forest and then town sounds, it was mostly travelling. I think my players found it kind of gimicky but added to the immersion a bit. A while after this I took part in a one shot and the DM was using the Witcher soundtrack as it's got a nice change between idle/combat stuff. As usual it depends on the setting and the group, OP. Would your game benefit from it? A cyberpunk game with some synth stuff in the background could be cool.
>>55070164
I always have music on and I've built up a certain playlist for each of the usual activities the party ends up doing (like sailing their boat, shopping, exploring etc). Sometimes this music is just ambient music from this site: https://tabletopaudio.com/
Individual towns also have their own themes and really important NPCs do too.
I also have context sensitive music to play for certain situations, like combat taking a turn for the worse, someone dying, someone doing something particularly epic, something spooky happening etc
I also take some time in my prep to assign songs to certain setpieces or scenes I envision will come up in the next session.
I try to keep the music at a volume that lets it be heard, but doesn't interfere with people talking. It was hard at first to use the music, as it does take up extra mental bandwidth to co-ordinate, but its since become second nature and I know exactly which songs to switch to when I need to. It now feels a little weird to DM without music.
When a player does something dumb, come close enough to whisper in their ear and then hum tunes from Super Mario Brothers
New to 40k here. How exactly does Global Campaign work? Does GW collect play data all over the world and make count to decide which side wins? And is it true that Chaos almost always loses?
>>55069880
You play a game, report the results to your local GW store and they send all the data to be tallied up.
Chaos has lost the first three planets, but won the fourth. The general thinking is that Chaos didn't have much of a chance due to both sheer numbers on the Imperial side and the fact that Xenos (who can use their wins to detract points from either side) are often siding against Chaos.
>>55070400
>the fact that Xenos (who can use their wins to detract points from either side) are often siding against Chaos.
If you think about it it makes sense that most, if not all, xenos would take from Chaos.
Tau - they like their shit orderly
Eldar/Dark Eldar - They fucking hate Chaos with a passion
Necrons - About th eonly guys they hate as much as Eldar is Chaos
Nids or Orks though could go either way.
>>55070400
Apparently Xenos are currently largely siding against the Imperium.
