Me and my brothers are trying to break into tabletop games but since there are only three of us total, it severely hampers our ability to play most games especially if one of us is acting as DM/GM. I have heard that it is very difficult to pull off a two person party game. Are there any role playing games that are good for three players or two players and a DM/GM? Or should I just hold off until we can get more players? Are there role playing games that don't require a DM/GM?
Also are there any resources to help me learn how to DM/GM properly so I don't complete butcher our first games?
Sorry if these are basic questions, I don't know enough about tabletop to know what I don't know.
Have you already decided what system and kind of adventure you want to get into? Some systems are better than others at this.
>>55092692
I would think that between three siblings you ought be to able to scrounge together 2 or 3 more friends in a pretty short amount of time.
There's a book called the Dungeon Master's Guide. It's probably the best advice you'll receive on how to DM.
Also, I like games with two players. Keeps things nice and focused.
>so i wa gunna be one of the half angel things and i was gunna be a warlock with a fiend as a patron like a devil because when i came to earth i didnt like my father because he was an angel and humans are filled with sin so i went to find power from another place (a fiend ) becuase i didnt want to be like my dad
I can't seem to be able to convince him that this is a bad idea. What does /tg/ think?
>>55091893
For reference, this is DnD 5e, he wants to be an Aasimar Fiend Pact Warlock.
Aasimars direct parents aren't outsiders, so tell him no.

What say you?
Fuck off, frogposter.
Why do you always spam these low fruit threads.
>>55091603
It's a phoneposter.
It's a frogposter.
With these powers combined we have a shit thread made by a newfag OP.
>>55091603
A chaotic character wouldn't give a shit about a pickpocket unless his pocket was the one being picked. A good character wouldn't bury anybody alive.
Shift him to chaotic neutral. Give him time to see how evil said action is. If he keeps going, he's chaotic evil, not good.
There, frogfaggot. There's your legit answer. May it be the only one you recieve.
How often do you see pc's with a family that aren't dead or long lost? My players tend to make their character orphans or abandoned, which is fine because it frees them of any ties that would interfere with adventuring.
Has anything interesting come from the introduction of a characters relative in your games?
It usually doesn't come up but we all pretty much assume our characters have families. We just don't care to bring it up in the game unless we note it in our background.
>>55091581
In my current campaign, one of the PC's mother is an important antagonist and another's father works for her.
Of the other two PCs, one has a normal family, the other is an orphan.
>Get invited into game along with SO
>Character introductions all round
>Dead family
>Dead family
>No contact with family for years
>Family dead by horrible murder and torture
>My character was adopted but had a loving home life and still stays in touch with adoptive parents
>SO's character went adventuring to support his siblings and sends them letters and gifts all the time
It's pretty sweet not having a tragic background.
My friends have asked me if I can try to create a pirate themed campaign for them and I could use some help. I don't want the campaign to be:
>you sail across water to a town
>stuff happens in town
>you sail across more water to a new town
>more stuff happens
>rinse and repeat
I'd like to have things happen while they are sailing along but I'm coming up with nothing. Anyone have any experience or advice on how what I could try doing?
>>55091484
>Whole world is sea
>towns are fleets of ships holded togheger by ropes
>>55091484
Other pirates.
Merchant ships loaded with booty.
Sea monsters.
Jesus Christ this isn't hard.
>>55091484
In my experience Pirate is one of those campaign themes which doesn't really give you much to do by itself. You're better off if your group can decide what they want the main conflict to be, do they want to be perpetually on the run from authority, dealing with ship politics from ambitious or greedy crew members, exploring ancient or secretive parts of the world and getting its valuables before others, competing with other pirates for territory and reputation, or whatever else you can think of.
How can i make an alien jungle environment without ripping off Morrowind?
>>55091453
Use real life trees and plants, except they're sized up/down and their lethality modified to fit your setting.
>>55091453
Use anemones and aquatic plantlife instead of fungi.
Or just >>55091512
>>55091512
Not OP but that's a pretty cool idea
Now I'm imagining an island of things that consume the sap of a plant that like takes them over as a kind of hive mind. Maybe the collective Intelligence of a few beasts is starting to become sentient
Chaos head-mates, edition.

Have you ever adapted material from a different RPG for D&D 5e? How did it go?
>>55089945
I was thinking like Asha from Iji, so having a bunch of teleporting illusions WOULD help that
>>55091283
Easily enough, then again it was pulling a monster out of 3.5 and just looking at the hitpoints and ability scores.
>>55084158
3.5e bastards are one of the main reasons all the good things 4e did are absent in 5e.
I still think it would have been better for WOTC to build upon 4e as opposed to just taking 3.5e, stripping it down and making baby's first DND.
Haven't seen one of these in a while. Tropes you just can't help but love in a story.

What type of elf gf is best for a normal human adventurer?
There's already one of these shitty gf threads up.
There's also no humor or point to them.
It's just really sad.
>>55090751
I don't know which is best for a normal human adventurer, but I know a dark elf gf is the best for me.
>>55090751
None of them mention their tits. The one with the cow tits wins. If all four have equally gigantic cow tits then dark elf wins.
What is /tg/ doing to commemorate the death of Tobe Hooper?
So theoretically, could humans kill an Old One/Eldritch Abomination? I The Call of Cthulhu the sailor did fuck up Cthulhu a bit by ramming a boat into him, even if he did heal soon after. So could we kill one if me put in our all?
>>55090266
The Short answer is no. The long answer is no..sometimes.
Things like Chthulu are unkillable by our own means. In the book he basically was just rolling over in bed before going back to sleep. Shit like The Dunwhich Horror required a spell but was technically killable, but then it was essentially mortal just like it's brother Wilbur
The entire point of them is that we can't kill them, It would completely defeat the point of eldritch horrors if they can be defeated- they're supposed to be these unstoppable forces that view us as no more than insects, and our only hope is that they don't feel like killing us.
>>55090407
I thought the entire point was that we couldn't understand them.
A swarm of ants *can* kill a human in the right conditions, but a swarm of ants can never understand *why* a human is busy flattening a plot of land because he's about to pour concrete.
What do diseased Xenomorph look like? I don't know much about the lore and what-have-you, but I do know they take on the DNA of their hosts. By extension, can they take on physiological flaws or genetic defects? And what if a face hugger got on a potential host with AIDS or similar detriment?
>>55090229
There's an Aliens comic (I can't remember the title) where a guy survives being taken into a xenomorph hive because they picked up some kind of fungus that's causing them to rot. The rest of the crew he was with ends up dying, but the facehuggers are so weak that a xeno has to pick one up and hold it directly in front of his face. A little while later he escapes and uses the ship's surgical machines to extract the (dead) chestburster from his own body.
If someone can post it, you might get some good ideas.
>>55090229
>What do diseased Xenomorph look like?
Probably depends on the disease and it's progress.
>And what if a face hugger got on a potential host with AIDS or similar detriment?
Depends on how similar the alien's biology is. I'm no Doctor but I wouldn't given any virus or bacteria that is adapted to live in humans much hope of surviving in the super acidic environment that is an alien.
>>55090928
You're referring the Aliems: The Labyrinth. The black mold killed off their queen which retarded them quite a bit, the infection from the mold itself to the lesser castes only served to make things worse for them. I'd recommend OP and anyone else interested in this thread give it a read. Really brings back the weird horror effect in a big way when you see what the xenos start getting up to.
Hey /tg/. I'm working on a campaign heavily based on the over-the-top world of fighting games. Interdimensional invasions, shady corporate sponsors, ancient weeaboo magic and warriors-style street gangs are all part of the background.
What I need is character art for fighting game-like characters, or characters that are over-the-top enough to fit into such a world. I'll dump some of what I have so far.
