Well, the equator probably would be a lot colder so, I guess the Sahara would be a cold desert and the Fauna and Flora in the rainforests would be different (hell it might not even be a rainforest), it also depends if it would be tilted towards the sun in the same way earth is.

but on the whole not a lot would be different to an oblate spheroid planet.
sure the equator is somewhat closer to the star, but on the scale of a planets orbit such a distance is negligible and would make no meaningful difference to the planets climate. Weather would probably be a bit more energetic, with a steeper graduation from equatorial to polar regions and stronger corealus effect.

Unless 2.0 changed something, it's full Strength unless you're doing a joint thrust or similar maneuver.
That said, very high TOU and high armor enemies can cause the same issue, so the same advice applies. At least for 1.9.9.
A) Don't try to fight them on fair terms. Hook the leg, beat the blade, make them incapable of defending properly so you can get a good hit in, etc.
B) Power Attack, unless changed in 2.0, was very strong and very useful for these situations
C) If you have the superior skill, Hilt Push. Leverage your skill by turning your attack and defense into a single roll, making sure you'll be able to Lever Down or similar.
D) Use the proper weapons for the job. A Pollax or a Bardiche can mess up a poor fucker real good.

There's more things one can do, but in general yeah, it can be hard to do a level 1 wound because a level 1 wound is game over for the large majority of wound types and CP levels. It's just too huge a penalty for most to handle, unless their Grit is good enough.

Not being american helps a LOT.

Having a functioning economy means we're on decent work contracts and not scrabbling for every hour we can get, and not under threat of firing/tarring/feathering if we so much as utter a 'no'.

Most of us are free on weekends, so we're mostly at the mercy of the one guy who works on the weekends sometimes. Not to mention the times we have real life social events on the weekend. Nothing to do about it but

A) Have one or more players totally restructure their lives to fit in a game
or
B) Start a game with an ironclad time and schedule, inviting only the people who can make it, probably inviting strangers just so you can have a full group

Or play-by-post, but fuck that.

My last setting had this. The whole thing was basically if a fantasy world reached the American Industrial Revolution, and the major country to the South were Sun-Goddess worshipers who acted Catholic as fuck and had a decent amount of maritime culture as well. They also had a kind of eternal struggle with an Aztec-ish society further South.
