Just as a side thought about some posts from the last thread, I've met a lof of former staff from companies like GW, Mantic, Warlord etc at cons and they all have good things to say and think working there was a great experience.
Except the guys I had met that used to work for PP. Every single one, all of them, fucking despise that place.
That alone kept me from going to work there when I was offered a position.
first fornotbeing a privateer press employee

So something to notice is that those companies you mentioned are UK companies, while PP is a Left Coast USA company.
Things that are considered Non-Tropes you are tired of seeing at your table.
I'll start off with a bit of a fire starter:
Anime
Allow me to expand that a little
Newer or Highschool/College kids OFTEN showing me a portraits, screen shots, or describing a screen from an anime I haven't watched and telling me it's cool as fuck. Sometime even continuing on as they want my input or comment, and if it's anything other than "Yeah Cool!" or worse still the appropriate catch phrase, they prattle on about it for another 10 min getting the rest of the table involved. And sometimes they'll just prattle regardless grinding the game to a halt.
Just ... really sick of it /tg/, I really am.
Maybe if you watched more anime you'd be able to join in the conversation instead of making bitter posts about how upset you are that you're left out.
That's my prescription. More anime.
You're welcome.
>where can I bitch about anime?
>reddit?
>facebook?
>stormfront?
>no, I got it... Hiroyuki Nishimura's 4chan!
Bruh.

For me, it is toxic autists like OP. Hard to detect them by a glance whenever they are the fun loving nerds or an bitter asshole who just want to be toxic.
They can't stop bitching and whining the whole time if others are enjoying themselves, making them bitter that they aren't the center of the attention.
Worse is their passive aggressiveness which chill down the whole group atmosphere and enjoyment.
Some even got the balls and lack of self awareness to ask why they never get invited back.
You can remove and add one class and one race. What would you do?
>>51400547
Remove Elves. Remove Wizards.
Add [some kind of sapient crystal beings, better ones than Shardminds]. Add Warlord.
>>51400547
>>51400547
All I'd want to do is alter the bard spells so they aren't 90% mind contol spells that it is impossible to justify having a good character use. Or re-fluff them into the super villians that their spell list implies.
Also, turn half orcs into just plain old orcs. We can get around the whole "every adventurer is the child of rape" thing, and it's silly to only have halfbreeds playable. And it means we can flesh out orcs into something cooler and more complex and not just "savages that it's okay to kill".
>>51400547
Like, from the core classes and races?
Because dnd is so kitchensink it features everything your heart could desire if only you collect enough suplementary releases.
Why does fantasy seem to be much more popular than SF? Is it just Tolkien/D&D's cultural influence? The only SF stuff that ever seems to gain much traction is the buttery-soft space fantasy stuff like Star Wars or 40k.

because hard sci-fi is no fun

It's completely different in film industry,
>>51395777
Sci-Fi is closer to real life. It's less heroic and free.

im looking for a drawing of a squat prince (the warhammer 40k equivalent of dorfs) So things include some kind of very ornate circlet (forgot to add it to the collage but i dont think its that necessery) a relatively young face (he's only 150 and they live to 500) although scarrings and all that is free range considering he fled the tyranid attack instead of staying there to fight.
For the clothes i coulnt find much but any kind of warhammer 40k-type armour would be fine as long as it looks dwarven (mastercraft, runes, etc) Something like in the pic.
For the weapons pictured he has a power-hammer-shotgun, a squat-made Boltrevolver (something like the gun in the left down corner but with a revolving chamber and the size of the gun above it), and a "squat recycles" wich is a blunderbuss made to be filled with anything and then uses powerweapon technology to fire it.
I would like some kind of cheery look for him since he is also mainly a diplomatic kind of character.
Also would be great if everything was liberally contained runes and stuff. he's royalty after all.
Could someone color this for me? or like draw over it? This is for a WH40K game if that changes anything. I tried doing it in photoshop but Im having problems.
>>51392045
And if possible (but not necessery) i would love if the back was done as well to make a 3d (2.5d whatever) piece. That thing on his hip is a book of grudges btw.
Attractive Women Edition
So I'm gonna be running a game of Degenesis for three of my friends in the near future, and we're gonna have our first small session tomorrow as a sort of warmup session, as everyone is pretty much new to the game. The group consists of an African Neolibyan and two Europeans (a Spitalian and an Anabaptist) who are on their way back to Europe, where the Neolibyan is the de-facto leader off to make new traderoutes and stuff, the basic idea of the campaign overall.
For our warmup, they'll land on Bedain and take in some of the atmosphere, and I'm looking for some light setpieces that can happen to them. So far I've got:
>chilling in a hookah bar with an older neolibyan
>a group of young scourgers challenging the anabaptist to a fight
>seeing some slavedrivers abusing their slaves
>african scrappers trying to sell their shit to the party's neolibyan
That's all I got so far. Any other ideas I might use?
Bump
Another bump with a happy lionhead
Last bump unless something happens. Perhaps this is the wrong time of the day to ask.
Well, to me, a noob GM, it's hard to balance between two extremes.
Too many monsters festering everywhere will make established kingdom and that sort of organized thing hard, since there will be very little or no connection in between populations.
Too little monsters might make the campaign boring, and even make PCs' job as adventurers meaningless (experienced GMs could make the game interesting even without any monsters to kill, but I'm a noob.)
I want the monsters - horde of orcs, man-beasts, single powerful mosters like dragons, etc - be a valid threat to society (like raiding and kidnapping people, a menance that has to be dealt with) but at the same time people to be war at each other, infighiting, having contact with each other, traveling and sort.
How much monster population you guys fill in? Where? Any tip on balancing? Thanks.
>>51425718
>Too little monsters might make the campaign boring, and even make PCs' job as adventurers meaningless
Why would it?
PC's follow trouble or trouble follow them. Relatively rare occurrence of monsters, hordes, forbidden cults and so on does not mean that PC will face them rarely.
One known dragon awakes onece a thousands years?
Guess who is lucky enough to be close to his lair or who i hunting the dragon on behalf of king X.
Orc invasion could be as rare as neighbour kingdom invasion.
Just general idea is that PC's are special in some way so rare things happen to them often.
Average person might never face a monster but heroes have luck to find monster of the week each week.
Or monster could stick to their lairs in ruins(they are magic monster, they do not need to hunt outside of dungeon) and there will be many ruins of ancient X, that are filed with treasure, that wit for bold adventures.
>>51425718
There are enough monsters to go around in Shadowrun, most of them look humanoid
>>51425718
One of the ways to circumvent the problem of progress is that the monsters are not originally denizens of that world, instead appearing well after the civilization was formed, and thus the original people were able to keep them out of their cities, for the most part.
Another way to have a large amount of monsters is that the monster/citizen strength ratio has shifted. For example if back in the day, there were epic heroes, like of which are unheard of these days. They could keep the monsters at bay, allowing the civilizations to thrive.
Okay why does Chaos suck so horribly bad in fluff?
>Horus dead
>Son is a ripoff Horus-wannabe who fails to take a single planet right next to the Eye of Terror 13 times.
>Legions broken into warbands
>Warbands kill each other
>Chaos Astartes geneseed corrupted
>Has to use decaying old equipment and tech
>No dozens of new founding chapters with dedicated recruiting homeworlds like loyalists
>Has surviving Primarchs but too lazy to walk out of Eye of Terror to do anything
>Saturday morning cartoon villains who never get any evil plot done
Grimdark? More like pitysad.

Because for some reason, every shitty troll has been crawling out of the woodwork the last day or so to spill their diseased load.
>>51425550
Wow EFG. It's been awhile.
Because basing your government or military on the principle of being as chaotic as possible is not effective.
Hey guys, got a new Pathfinder campaign going with some relatively new players (I'm DM)
2 of the players (alchemist, bard) have done nothing to help the party and just fuck off and steal from crowds and burglarized the house of an assassinated dwarven magistrate.
The other 3 players are at a fighters' tournament where more npc assassinations are happening and they just want to advance the story.
How can i get the 2 jackoffs to at least be party oriented (let alone story oriented) in their play?
>>51425147
See
>>51424155
tl;dr: Communication
>>51425147
Tell the jackoffs it's a team-based game and they don't seem to want to be team players, so that's why you're kicking them out of the group. Then wish them luck with Skyrim or whatever their murderhobo simulator of choice is.
>>51425147
Switch to a system that supports party-oriented or story-oriented play.
>play a ranger
>goblins killed his mother
>dragons killed his farther
>will not rest till both are dead
>I tell gm that either he kills both or he himself is killed
>Therein awaits the day he faces off against the red dragon,
What's your best character story /tg/?
>>51424843
the one that doesn't involve putting gobbo slayer in the OP.
>>51424843
Not my best, but the only one I have screencapped because I'm too lazy to type out any other ones.
>>51424843
My dad once played a character who's village was murdered by orcs, and swore to kill every orc he ever saw.
>one day see a horde of orcs
>party agrees to run back to town and get help
>Dad's character charges them and gets himself killed
>party gets fucked up but most survive
>when everyone gets upset IRL he reminds them of his character's backstory, saying that his character was blinded with rage and couldn't help himself
Was he That Guy or a good roleplayer?
so I'm trying to GM up a Ritual where one of my players can craft a mana potion.
I'm trying to make it so that he has to DO something to get this potion, normally casters get a portion (roughly 1/4) of their mana back nightly, so I'm trying to give him a reward if he does something to create it.
BUT i don't want it to be so simple and easy that in one night he can create 10 of them and spend up 10x his total mana every day and become a madman.
I'm trying to prevent him from becoming too powerful, so it needs to be difficult.
your thoughts?

Pokemon TCG thread
A friend and I have been thinking about starting to play the game. I'm used to MTG where 90% of "beginner-friendly" products are absolute trash, like intro decks and deck-builder toolkits.
More info in 2nd post.
After some research, I have a feeling that this product (Rayquaza vs Keldeo Battle Arena decks) are a good place to start. Not sure though, also not sure how it compares to other Battle Arena products that are still on Amazon for the same price.
Any advice on what to buy? Already have playmats and MTG sized sleeves.

Hey /tg/ roleplaying newbie here what game system is best for horror?
warhammer 40k
>>51423845

>>51423845
You can do a horror game in most game systems. It all comes down to story telling.
So I have implemented a strategy of mine to enhance every situation at the game table.
In the past I have done this while watching movies, television, playing video games, or just hanging out.
The idea is you have a loaded gun with oine bullet somewhere in the room on a table or some such. Everyone knows there is a loaded gun right there.
It does a lot to make any situation more fun.
At least half of my group carries and my GM keeps a few loaded guns out separate from the ones locked away, I don't understand how this has any effect in America.
>>51423480
Everyone who carries has to leave their guns at home, and the gun only has one bullet. The crux of the matter is that only one of us is going to find a way out.
So I have implemented a strategy of mine to enhance every situation at the game table.
In the past I have done this while watching movies, television, playing video games, or just hanging out.
The idea is you have a fueled M113 Gavin with one 25mm gun somewhere in the room on a table or some such. Everyone knows there is a fueled M113 Gavin right there.
