Are there any reprints of 1e Dungeons & Dragons adventure modules?

They seem either rare or expensive, how else am I supposed to play this adventure?

I always liked this trope of traditional eastern martial arts - when the master of some mumbo fu bullshit cuts with his limbs like with blades.
Can you roll me something like that in Pathfinder? It would be awesome if you could stay off 3rd party materials, but if it is absolutely a must, you can dabble into PoW, since I know that brawler won't cut it (he-h, got it?).
Pic related, even though everything past Shin's arc is haphazardly made crap, for you to understand the concept better.

Well, no shit.

Stop playing 3.5/Pathfinder. Move up to 5e where casters are basically a toolbox for the party to use and need to stay in the back row when combat starts because they can't go buff-mania anymore and their d6 hit dice actually matters.

Yes, D&D magic worked better before it was ripped out of its context and rules framework and inexpertly planted into an untested alpha version of pen and paper Diablo, which was then released as a finished product and accepted as holy writ by generations of vast assburgers.

What makes a dungeon great? What makes a dungeon-like open area great?

I'm trying to study the design philosophy behind great dungeons and areas to apply them to one of my projects, and I'd love to hear /tg/'s input.

>>51427139
Depends on what kind of game you're talking about. Design behind dungeons from B/X are very different than AD&D are very different from 3.PF are very different from 4E are very different from games that aren't D&D.

Probably start by looking at essays on The Five Room Dungeon and Quantum Ogre Theory, figuring out what are generally acknowledged Great Dungeons, shitty ones, read them, play through them, etc.

You're already in trouble if you're putting dungeons and open areas into the same thought process
>>

>Depends on what kind of game you're talking about. Design behind dungeons from B/X are very different than AD&D are very different from 3.PF are very different from 4E are very different from games that aren't D&D.

I'm talking about design philosophy in general, the balance between challenge, adaptability, reward, combat, storytelling, etc. While mechanically these elements may be different, there are various similarities on how to approach them from a design perspective, things like scale and flow aren't necessarily restricted by a game but by a mentality or by the possibilities of the dungeon itself and what it can offer to the players.

For example, designing dungeons for D&D and Shadowrun is oddly similar even though they're radically different at a core level, because the elements of space, puzzle, scale, combat, storytelling and reward are very similar between shadowrunners going into a facility for a gig and a bunch of mercenaries/adventurers entering the lair of a lich.

>You're already in trouble if you're putting dungeons and open areas into the same thought process

By dungeon-like open areas i mean things like labrynth forests and other things that while not a dungeon per se still have a similar structure to a dungeon in the same regards as above.
>>
>>51427963
Doesn't sound like you're engaging with specific mechanics, nor specific design philosophy. That you don't even think of them as necessarily contextually different is a bad sign, and you seem more interested in empty armchair generalization.

Good luck.

There's infinite number of abyss layers, so there has to be infinite number of possibilities how to rule over one. Still some of those possibilities may be unfeasible and quite short-lived.

How do the layers of the abyss differ between one another? Between the first and the tenth? The tenth and the hundredth? The hundredth and the thousandth? The thousandth and the millionth?

so I'm running a campaign where one of the player characters just LOVES golems. Absolutely adores them to the point of silliness. Still, I want to throw him a bone (and create sidequests) so that he can make a pet golem for himself in a unique way. This all being said, how would you go about stating a pet mini golem? Maybe small to medium and made of dirt? Or just chat about golems, that's fine too
18 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Make it tiny, since a small or medium golem might contribute quite a bit to combat what with strength, DR, and that magic immunity. A tiny little guy might still be hard to hurt but isn't as much of a threat or target to enemies. Plus a doll sized construct bumbling around sounds adorable.

I'd personally go with something like 10 Str and Wis, 12 Dex, and 1 Cha. As a mindless construct it has no Con or Int scores. DR depends on materials, and the thing that makes it a golem and not any other construct is an immunity to any spell that allows Spell Resistance. It's a little pet that needs supervision and doesn't hit very hard, but depending on materials might be nigh indestructible.
>>
>>51424628
Thanks, that's actually a really good suggestion. Would it be that big of a deal if it could do combat, though? I know golems are tough, but seeing how the player is a squishy support wizard, maybe it would give him some flexibility, especially if the golem was hard to make
>>

Because you need to set up everything, establish the setting, have a basic list for the Legions, and set up rules for a few of them.

Imagine that with two of the most unusual, deviant and OP Legions first. It would have crashed and burned
