Why do so many first-time GMs attempt open-world sandboxes or political intrigue or some other difficult theme/concept for their first outing?
Do they want to crash and burn?
>>55100109
Retards tend to have big egos and over-estimate their own abilities. They also tend to blame their PLAYERS when the game fails, rather than looking at themselves.
>>55100109
Probably just down to them not knowing the amount of effort it actually takes to make and sustain a world like that.
They'll imagine it's about as easy as playing skyrim or something, but they'll be controlling the NPCs instead.
And a bit of what >>55100151 said, but I think thats more of a minorityand them talking from personal experiece, I feel there's a "That GM" story in there.
>>55100109
Because that is what media is filled with.
Nobody makes simple stories of things that need to get done.
They'd rather watch a clusterfuck and then say "OMG IT SO COMPLEX"

Which is the best Free Cityand why is it Myr?
So if House Tarth was a supporter of Renly, did their loyalty transfer to the Tyrells and thereby the crown after Renly's death?
>>55100875
Well its more like House Tarth was sworn to Renly directly.Technically it would have switched to Stannis, since the Stormlands lords bent the knee to him.
Does no one make normal characters anymore?
What's wrong with making a dude that isn't special in some way.
If you're not special in some way, what the fuck are you doing adventuring? Go home and raise some crops.

I like Mailbox Knight, personally.
My fellow Dwarves. We have recently have managed to discern three important facts about the moon...
1: It is is more than seven hundred decillion tonnes of stuff that can be mined.
2: It is 100% Orc Free
3: It is 100% Elf Free
As such, I say that we make it our goal and put our dwarvish skills to use to put a Dwarf on the Moon so that we can begin mining it!
Do we build a tower up to the sky to reach it?
We take the alcohol, and put it under a few boxes, and then we blow ourselves to the moon.
"We choose to go to the moon in this decade, and do these other things, not because they are easy, but because there are no pointy-eared bastards up there."
Sup /tg/, I don't have any friends to play tabletop games with or D&D and stuff, but I want to get back into painting miniatures like I did when I was 12 years old or something. Despite liking the look of Games Workshop stuff, I don't really want to spend all that money so early on.
Where can I get some cheap/affordable minis that I won't feel bad for painting badly on my first attempts?
I could also do with recommendations for paints, I have some stuff already but they're the shiny enamel kind that I don't think I should use and GW's paint line seems extortionate. Should I just go with GW's paint or something else?
I'd google, but I thought it'd be better to hear from you guys.
>>55106437
Buy reaper bones minis. They are pretty great looking and really cheap. Good set to use as a stepping stone for your other games.
Vallejo paint is the best stuff to use.
>>55106490
>Buy reaper bones minis
I just had a look, the Cowboys looks pretty cool.
>Vallejo paint is the best stuff to use.
Sounds good. I'll find a painting guide, but is it a retarded idea to use Games Workshop paint with Vallejo on the same model? What about inks and washes or whatever? I'd like to spend a long time per model to make them the best looking I can.
>>55106584
You can mix and match.
GW makes pretty good paint but its over priced. Vallejo stuff is a bit better and cheaper.
For a new player you could do just fine with GW stuff. THe best product GW makes is their free painting videos with Duncan on Warhammer TV. He can teach you all the basics you need to know.
What would a small village made up of hobgoblins and hill giants look like? Who would be in charge?
I like to think that the Hobgob warleader would have figured out a way to enslave or enlist the Hill Giants.
Thw Hob will be the governor. The Hill Giant would be the mobster. The things about monstrous race is we have a hard time imagine they have commoners too.
Somebody to extort, somebody to pay taxes and work the fields. People who wants to pass the times playing dice, or want to have their daughter married.
But they must have somewhere. Or else they won't be a village or even civilzations.

>The things about monstrous race is we have a hard time imagine they have commoners too.
I don't have a hard time at all.
Crimson Slaughter are the best, edition.

How would anti dragon cannons look like?
>>55105328
I'd imagine some kind of scatter shot to puncture the wings so it falls.
>>55105328
like a regular canon, aimed upward?
Honestly though anon, I reckon it'd be a bit like the armaments on an Age of Piracy ship of sail. You'd have various guns and ammunition types for different dragin baggin jobs. Chain Shot for clipping wings or tangling necks and limbs, Sabot Shot for trying to punch through scales, general ball shot to buffet or disorient, scatter shot to try and punch holes in wing membrane. You probably want 24 to 36 pounders, long barrel.
>>55105328
Would a classless system where you have more options to just customize your character however you want as you progress work, be balanced, and be fun in a TTRPG? Something akin to Dark Souls or Fallout.
Sure.
House ruled WFRP all the time to allow that, though perhaps it felt like less of a jump messing with a "career" system compared to say trying to rip the classes out of D&D.
At a basic level even just fudging what someone needed to enter the new career they want so that it matches up with the story better always felt like it added a heap.
As for what is balanced and fun, at the end of the day it's the GMs call and up to the players to come up with a convincing reason for them to get access to something.
>>55105172
It certainly can be. It might not necessarily be depending on how well the game is designed. I'm not even sure what you're asking here, to be honest.
