I've been hit with a random idea for a superhero setting so I thought maybe I should bring it up here and see how well it holds up and get some feedback. This one is a bit more on the darker/'realistic' side than four colors but I don't really intend to go full grimderp.

>The game is set in some alternate timeline, which deviate either around or time or before. Due to some cosmic whatever event (I'm not sure yet), it causes the appearance of super powered humans. Pretty standard so far. These first generation supers are comparatively weak, usually able to only use their powers in short burst or possessing very limited enhanced abilities, the strongest reach peak human in one or two stat (whatever the system is, I don't know yet)

>The world is changed by the appearance of the super humans, many of whom end up assuming increasing amount of politic and cultural power. This isn't like the X-Men with the 'oh woe is my poor oppressed mutant self' because let's be real, superpowered soldiers, athletes and politicians would have a lot of clout pretty quick and the less-than-kind super humans would be quick to unfortunately put the masses 'in their place'. So it's not whether or not humans are right to fear them so much as humans not being able to do a damn thing in the long run.

>As the decade passes, more super powered individual are born: that is especially true of second-generation supers, who are stronger than their parents. You see, the main idea here is that each generation is stronger. Now, a second option is that the ambient whatever that create superheroes grow stronger, so maybe it's not so much a question of generation so much as WHEN you are born. That said, the core idea IS about those next-generation supers who are indeed stronger. Things escalate because each generation produce more and more impressive individuals.

>By the time of maybe the fourth or fifth generation, you got individuals who even begin manifesting more than one power, so you start having super strong, super fast flying bricks or deadly mentalist able to control entire crowds or mind break someone with a mere thought. And what about the generation after that, what happens then? That's when you start going into the more cosmic-level characters.

>The limits of what is considered 'possible' just keep getting pushed back and society is increasingly alien thanks to the fact this setting utterly ignore the rule that super genius are useless and their inventions having no application beyond their own gadgets.

>By that point in time, the world is increasingly ruled not by nation or corporations so much as families or lineage of super powered individuals with decades-long family feuds and diverging goals. So basically you can totally have that family who are basically the Superman who act like benevolent 'gods' loved by the people and on the other hand you got this aristocratic lineage which basically produce this not!Doctor Doom with goals of world domination.

>Inspired by things such as the Metabarons, I could see a campaign which is generational saga. There is the superhero thing, sure, but it's mixed with familly saga, with feuds and vengeance and the drama which come with it.
>>
>>51715930
>I could see a campaign which is generational saga

You're going to end up with brane-straddling hyperheroes who use entire universes as projectiles when they fight each other.

That sound completely absurd. And badass.

Why can't you just forgive the villain? The world is an illusion, and the path to spiritual awareness is blocked by worldly attachments.

The villain is harming innocents in the pursuit of further worldly attachments.
As an enlightened soul, it it my duty to send the villain to their next reincarnation before they accrue any more negative karma.

Science-fiction gadgets powered by magic crystals, yet holding an intense grounding in fantasy tropes (swords, sorcery, monsters and magic races).

Hi, I'm a giant piece of lard, and I want to know why there aren't enough systems boasting this type of setting. Because it's debatably and subject to personal opinion clearly the best setting.

I know magic crystals everywhere settings are kinda silly and used in a lot of bad games and shit, but god I love it.

Then again, I also collect real life gemstones, so I guess it's not surprising.
>>
>>51713664
That's more like science-fantasy then "punk" anything, as the "punk" part in steampunk and cyberpunk is actually part of the literary themes involved in the story and not part of the visual aesthetic, except to artists who don't actually read cyberpunk books or even listen to the content and context of cyberpunk media and instead focus on the pretty pictures.

Alignment sucks, and it sucks because it's being used erroneously to describe an someone's morality; a nine-point grid cannot accurately categorize most - if not all - moralities. Alignment should instead be used to describe an individual's cosmic loyalty - their literal alignment with the various forces of the universe.

The most unique and interesting aspect of DnD as a setting is the idea that Good and Evil are quantitative forces as real as Entropy, Order, and the elements.
The 4 primary and infinite forces of the universe created 9 extraplanar factions of concepts-made-flesh who wage an eternal war against eachother, but they are unable to find victory due to their immortal and conceptual nature, yet must alway fight the war because that is the very concept they are made of. The only way they can find victory against eachother is through proxy-wars among mortals and other unaligned parties, and this is what they do.

The thing is, just because you serve the best interests of a particular alignment, doesn't mean you have to act in a way that alignment would condone.
An inquisitor who uses torture and tyranny to keep a kingdom faithful to the gods of Neutral Good is acting in a Lawful Evil way, but his alignment is Chaotic Good.
A courtier spinning a web of lies and deceit to be a city's hidden ruler is acting in a Chaotic Neutral way, yet she is trying to keep the city aligned to Lawful Neutral, so that is her alignment.
A blood-soaked warrior fights for Lawful Evil refuses to accept dishonour by killing children or using poison; he cares about his allies, and acts very similar to the way a Lawful Good paladin would, yet his alignment is Lawful Evil.

In short, the only way you can keep alignments fresh and palatable is if you make it completely separate from a character's morality and ethics.

I see it the other way around. In your examples, those people are the alignment that they present as, but in the larger scheme of things they create an effect that is different from their alignment, given their context. Reacting hydrogen with oxygen makes water, but that doesn't mean that hydrogen and oxygen are themselves water
>>
>>51708944
>in the larger scheme of things they create an effect that is different from their alignment
Just to clarify, you're claiming that, for example, the inquisitor is really benefitting Lawful Evil?
I'd have to disagree. He may act Evil, but his actions lead to a net victory to the forces of Good. Otherwise, you might as well say that an American soldier who kills Nazis but likes bratwurst is actually benefitting the Nazis in the long run - and that's simply laughable.

Second hand? So all the hellions in the box are pre-owned?

I played a demo. I love it. It's a fast paced short skirmish game. I like the matchups being random, I think it adds a narrative level of excitement. I'm saving some money to buy the box myself.

I think he meant that people sold on the hellions in droves after purchasing multiple boxes

since 4th age the Technology and Magic Regress became worse

Dagon's Invasion had a bit of success, and the events that succeeded later caused by the events of morrowind worsened that.

>since 4th age the Technology and Magic Regress became worse

Lore-wise this seems like a cool an interesting idea, doing the reverse of what many other fantasy settings do. But when it comes to the consequences for the game world this doesn't seem like the best idea. I don't think many would like everything eventually becoming primitive.
>>
>>51691479
>Armor resembles much more advanced plate armor in ESO while armor in the last few elder scrolls, Morrowind and Oblivion especially, look as if they've been inspired from earlier eras.

ESO has a shit armor design that exaggerates the aesthetic laid down by lederer, kirkbride, and adam. all the armors literally look the same in silhouette and offer no sense of character for the player. they are literally worse than TES III, TES IV, and TES V armors; whereas they had distinct armors you could recognize from a mile away ESO has the same construction of armor for every single set.

Its a fuckin travesty.

Holy shit what is this ass-mad mouth breathing retard going on about?

Different playgroups have different wants for the format and competition scales differently between them. Some groups may play like legacy singleton, and some may play like timmy Battlecruiser, and both are OK. What's ignorant is saying one is the """correct""" way to play edh and one is wrong.

Let the edh spikes play spikey and let the Johnnies and timmies play like they want likewise.
