Can anyone recommend a system where the primary resolution mechanic is a 2d6(+mod) roll?
I'm DMing for a group of new players (I'm new myself) and we tried D&D, but the d20 was far too random for our tastes, so any input on what other systems we could consider are or telling me it doesn't matter in the end would be cool.
Right now we're thinkingDungeon Worldbecause it looks like there's a lot of customization that can be done, but we're wary of it because we'd all prefer a game with more structure to the combat.

If you want a minimalist, but full-size game, and like the idea of Conan-style high-adventure, you might want to check out Barbarians of Lemuria.

KotC is an RPG videogame based on the same rules as D&D 3.5, based on the Open Game Licence 3.5. Sounds pretty awesome, from what I've heard it's the most accurate depiction of DND combat in a videogame. I haven't played it yet but I've watched a few let's play videos. Thoughts?
>Apparently very good AI, turn based combat
>4 player party
>175 magic spells taken from D&D
>shills get out

Etc, etc
Seems like fucking expensive for that kind of game

the only problem is that the developer is too retarded to put it on steam or gog because he's whinging about the distribution deals or something
So I'm running a 5e D&D campaign and the players are essentially trying to break the game. Me, being the merciful DM I am, want to troll then back. Any ideas?
Elaborate.
>>51872288
I want to mess with them discretely. But if it's funny and justifiable enough, I'd do that too.
>>51872330
no elaborate on the entire situation, whats the campaign and how are they fucking with it
>Party is a bunch of old-west outlaws.
>They get inside information from a shared companion of theirs that there's loot on a train.
>They recovered something from a mine-shaft near a very old Indian burial site thanks to their dynamite.
>It could be the next hope-diamond, it could be the ark of the covenant: whatever it is, it's heavily guarded and being kept hush-hush.
>They plan to a train heist on said loot as soon as the sun starts setting so they can get out before any chance of sunrise.
>They are able to board the train but soon find the thing in question isa shoggothHow do I make Alien (1979) on a train? I'm not particularly experienced with horror, but I know my players would get a thrill out of this if I could do it just right. We're using GURPS.
Please, /tg/. You're my only hope.
My first guideline for horror games is the same as my one for comedy games; they have to be fun even if the horror (or comedy) doesn't work as intended. Give them meaningful goals and obstacles that make sense. Allow them to get creative. Make your NPCs memorable. That sort of thing.
Identify themes to your horror. Alien is about human frailty in a brutal, uncaring universe (space, the huge ship and the casual biological superiority of the alien) combined with a healthy dose of kinky eroticism. Read GURPS Horror for advice.
If you're going for the feel of alien, they need to be trapped on the train. Have a good reason why they can't get off; the driver and stoker have barricaded off the front of the train, angry indians are hunting them down, it's the middle of winter and they risk freezing to death, whatever.
Instead of having all the players as bandits, have some be bandits, some be passengers/train employees. The first act should just be the train robbery itself. Figure out the specifics of that. If they are going loud, that means a pretty big group of bandits. If they are going quiet, how do they go about it.
Also, I'd introduce some kind of a way to keep people on the train. Perhaps a cave in traps the train in a tunnel, trapping them and making people easy pickings for whatever was just freed, forcing the pcs to work together to survive.
Man, I might steal this, it sounds like a baller CoC scenerio.

AGE OF SMEGMA
How would one build Michael Jackson in Pathfinder/3.5e? I have a strange compulsion to play the king of pop in a campaign at some point before I die.
Bard seems like an obvious choice, but I would vote for going full thriller with a necromancer
Bard 6
-10 hp
>>51868196
There is a Bard archetype that focuses on necromancy, it's perfect for Thriller Jackson.
Alternatively, the Dancing Dervish archetype uses dance fighting and can easily represent Smooth Criminal, Bad or Beat It Jackson.
How would I describe shooting an arrow and make it less repetitive? Most of my combat turns usually end with "I loose an arrow" with variations of "ready", "nock", and "aim" sprinkled around unless I say some fluff about how I move.
I want to say where I aim, but if I aim anywhere vital I'm pretty sure the DM will impose penalties on me and it leaves less for the DM to talk about how the shot lands.
Any tips?
>>51867540
Make a body chart and roll on it.
>I fire an arrow
>rolls
>It lands in their right shoulder
>Their right arm tenses up, but barely manages to keep a hold on their sword
>>51867599
I really don't want to make combat takes any longer by adding more rolls to it.
The archer is so good at throwing arrows than he can just pick an arrow with his mouth and spit the arrow, and would still kill the target.
Does anyone have these old comics from 4e? WotC seems to have lost them in their website redesign.

The comic was neat in some ways because the kids were fuck-ups and little shits of varying ages but they had fun with D&D. Sadly for OP I didn't save any.
I found this in the tattered ruins of Old WotC Website. I remember the blue haired kid was REALLY into dwarves.

That is girlyman comes back and tries to take control of the empire in the name of the emperor.
The high Lords hate this idea.
Boom, massive fucking civil war. The high lords excommunicate the ultras and their successors. 1/3 of the imperium sides with ultras.
Chaos dicks around in the mayhem.
The Tau expand.
Orks wagh.
Primarchs return and pick sides.
And it all comes to the emperor dieing and becoming a god, which would be 15 books from now and about a decade from now.
