I have been playing Twilight Struggle with my friends. After several times, we started thinking, if it could be extended to more modern times.
If we were making sequel to Twilight Struggle, how would it be different? What events would make it in?
After some thinking, we decided on some principles that should be used to make a game distinct and interesting
If Twilight struggle is founed on domino principle, we suggest hypothethical game would be founded on the "controlled chaos therory" and "global conspiracy theory"
>>55139674
Starting with second thing. Why conspiracy?
First of all, that allows to avoid simple continuation of USA/USSR debackle. USA vs Russian Federation just will not work from balanced gameplay perspective
Second, it will allow to make superpower (or former one) into one of the places where contest goes on. For instance, that would allow to model certain impeachment processes or interesting elections as events
Third reason - and it ties to the first principle mentioned before - conspiracy theories mak place for false flag operations, provocations etc. which is what "controlled chaos theory" is based on
Now, just what conspiracy should that be?.. If one side would be "globalists" - what would be other one?..
>>55139818
Now, for the first principle. We suggest, in departing from the original game's mechanic, have third kind of influence. That would represent instability. Both players would be able to use it to try and further their goals somehow, yet it would represent a danger to their eforts to control things
That is the general idea, although how can it be implemented?
One of the ideas we had was to try and steal Pandemic mechanic with some fashion
This shit is bugging me. Why did Tzeentch let the thousand sons legion turn into dust? Surely he could have controlled the spell and let the legion maintain their human form.
I dont see how a legion of dust soldiers is a good idea.
1. It don't makes you look as a god willing to reward followers.
2. How the fuck do thousand sons recruit? Can they even?
3. If an astartes decide to turn to Tzeentch, does he turn into dust just like *poof*?
4. Why the fuck does Ahriman and the other high ranking psykers of thousand sons still follow Tzeentch when he allowed all their brothers turn to sand?
Explain /tg/.
>>55139235
A majority of thousand sons sorcerers actually dispise Tzeentch for turning the legion to dust.
>>55139235
Are you kidding me, the irony is palpable. The foresighted and powerful Thousand Sons reduced to literal puppets. He's probably still crying with laughter ten millenia later
>>55139335
>>55139377
Then why do they still follow him?
There's a hundred threads a day about elves and giants.
How about some love for our metal friends?
>>55139090
Back in my day we called these golems.
>>55139126
And kobolds were doglike. IT'S THE CURRENT YEAR
I played a Warforged spellsword a long time ago in a 3.5e custom setting about a bunch of guilds. He was in the may-as-well-be-police guild, so "Robocob" quickly stuck.
Why are people not lining up to contract werebear lycanthropy in 5e?
>neutral good alignment
>full control over shapeshifting, no involuntary changes
>Strength 19
>+1 natural armor
>humanoid form, hybrid form, and bear form, speed 40 feet and climb speed 30 feet in hybrid or bear form
>immunity to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from non magical weapons that aren't silvered
>keen smell
>multiattack with powerful bite and claws
Spread the werebear lycanthropy like an epidemic and watch the world turn into neutral good ursine übermensch.

You are one bitter individual with a transparent agenda, and we all, including yourself, would be better off with you never posting again.
Why do so many people play TTRPGs and come up with their own characters with individual backstories and personalities only to not roleplay them? Is it that they're embarrassed to do so, an ignorance as to what roleplay entails or is it just plain apathy?
>>55137607
There a reason "originull character donut steel" is a meme. Alot of the time it's because the characters are such hot garbage that they'd be too bad for even a crap-tier anime, let alone tolerated in a game where anyone gave even the slightest bit of a fuck about quality.
Playing a character is a small part of the game. I confess I tend to forget my character's stated personality quirks when they'd get in the way of defeating whatever obstacle the GM throws in front of us. It's not deliberate, I just get caught up in the game and authentic character acting stops being a priority.
Sometimes the GM is at least partially to blame. They often don't work backstory into the game and just leave it as a thing to be occasionally mentioned by the player it belongs to, with no real grounding in the game itself. That makes it easier to forget you even came up with one, though it doesn't completely absolve you of any blame for forgetting.
So /tg/, I'd like to know what do you think about Starfinder and what are the major merits and flaws of it. I always liked the idea of a futuristic magitek campaign, and I would like to know if Starfinder could be a nice choice (balancing, fluff, execution) or not.
I never liked Pathfinder's setting because it is just there to showcase the ability to use the system for any fantasy genre. So the setting in Starfinder is just as uninspiring. Now as for the system. I have to play the game to say for certain, but it does not look very balanced nor does it look complete. For magitek go with fading suns instead.
I wonder if it could end up being babbys first sci fi role playing game the same way D&D is babbys first fantasy.
>>55138912
I don't think it will be, but I do think there's a market for that game.
Is cliche space fantasy cliche enough, though? Classic fantasy literature has a bedrock of cliche, dudes with swords killing evil magic bastards and such. Classic sci-fi is more diverse. Can the same system do Star Wars and Star Trek? What about Dune and John Carpenter? At some point the rules are going to lose their flavour for trying to accommodate everything and at that point you might as well just play GURPS.
Pic unrelated.
Where are you guys from? Are there a lot of fa/tg/uys where you live? Interested in hearing what the geographical demographics are like on this forum.
I'm in South America, curiously I noticed in the obscure RPG thread that there are quite a few other people lurking /tg/ from Spanish-speaking regions, among a few Poles and other places. I always figured the vast, vast majority were Americafags, but maybe that's not the case?

>Where are you guys from?
I'm in Denver CO, it's pretty good around here. I have a coffee shop near me, called enchanted grounds. It's a coffee shop and tabletop store. I love it there, I can chill listen to music and drink coffee while working on campaigns.
>Are there a lot of fa/tg/uys where you live?
Not really I mean there are a few but like 1 out of 20.
I also started DMing at the store for their weekly encounters. I got a bunch of free bumper stickers and like 13 pages of those pop out pathfinder minis from the store on their behalf.

>AL: A lot of what inspires both the Sun Empire and the River Heralds comes directly from the Aztec and Maya and the succession of control from one to the other. One group having been there for much longer, the River Heralds in our case, now on the tail end of control over the continent of Ixalan, and another, the Sun Empire, directly confronting the other on their borders. Influence from the Incans can also be seen in the terraced farms near the Sun Empire cities of the mountains. So there’s a lot of real-world inspiration that went into all of this.
Color me surprised, a mesoamerican inspired world that DOESNT lump the Aztec and Maya together.
Highlights
>Vraska is undergoing her master plan she talked about on Ravnic
>Bolas gave her a thaumatic compass
>Ixalan is a continent on the wider plane think "The New World"(cue dominaria wank)
>The Vampire Legion of Dusk work for the Church and Monarchy and sail on fuckhuge Cathedralships( seriously the art for them is insane) hunting for a sacred relic called the Immortal Sun that can grant immortality without the need for blood drinking.
>When the Vamps conquered Torrezon(the old world) the refugees sailed off and became pirates
> Its a 4 way war for the lost city and the Immortal Sun. The Merfolk want to keep it from othere, the Sun Empire want it to stop the invaders, the Vamps want it for immortality and the Pirates want it because its One Piece.

Its aztecs arent dinosaurs, its pirates arent zombies and its dinosaurs arent over the top old childrens book dinosaurs.
Also a critical lack of lasers and frogs
I don't know anything about aztec/mayans at all.
Any good places/documentaries to learn about them?
Whats the best name for a generic magical class? There's wizard, mage, magician, spellcaster sorcerer.
Same for warrior, knight, swordsman
I find it difficult to choose between those because they're kinda the same but some games like MtG have more than one.

All of those words have slightly different connotations, which, admittedly, the party may not directly understand.
I prefer to use:
Mage - Someone who is wise and learned, and can do magic as a result of this knowledge
Wizard - Someone who does rituals and alchemy
Magician - An entertainer, who doesn't actually know magic.
Spellcaster,Sorcerer - Any and all magic users
Enchanter - Someone who tends to use magic that confuses, dazzles or beguiles
Warlock - Usually an evil sorcerer
Witch - Usually an evil woman who uses magic
Unless, of course, I'm playing a system with classes, in which case I make sure the names are used appropriate to the system/setting.

If your preferred RPG system takes a whole session to make a character, it is a poor system. It is difficult enough to get people together to have a session and if you have to spend an entire session just getting a character ready, the system is ineffective and needs refining or pick an different system.
Discuss.
>>55136047
Oh boi, another thinly-veiled "DnD sucks" topic. You're completely correct, however.
>>55136047
If character creation is integrated into actual play, then taking an entire session to make a character is perfectly fine. No, I don't know any game that works like this. Except DCC, very arguably.
>>55136047
Lengthy character creation is annoying, but it's not enough to condemn the whole system if it has other merits. Don't be absolutist.
How do I handle Influence in DH2
As in, how do I stop my players from going like this:
>okay, we need to do this thing so we need x
>roll for x
>success
>ok, you have x (with a story how they got it ofcrs)
>okay, now we need y
>fail
>you don't get y
>okay, so how about z
>roll
>fail
>okay, so let's try v
And so on.
They will start being noticed, yes. But if it is not a problem for them?
>if it is not a problem for them
It should be. Part of the entire point of an acolyte's job is to root out hidden cults. You think Ravenor's minions kicked down doors and yelled "WE ARE THE INQUISITION, GET ON THE FUCKING FLOOR" 24/7?
Prancing around like you own the place and waving Inquisitorial authority around is just asking for either a higher-up to object or some ballsy cultists/xenos/whatever to try and make an example of them. Assuming the shit they're trying to investigate doesn't just up and vanish at the hint of trouble.
>>55136026
As soon as you fail you run out of money for that session/story segment and you cannot buy anything else
>>55136090
Substitute "Inquisitorial authority" for "gigantic wads of cash" as appropriate. Roaming around, say, hive worlds and buying fancy equipment is a great way to get attention you don't want.
