If anyone is interested or remembers Skyresh Guy, that's me now! I dropped Skyresh. I'm working on another take at Shadowrun's concept (cyberpunk meets fantasy) alongside a friend, and we're doing some pretty solid process. Right now we're referring to it as Datalyst: Cyberpunk and Fantasy, or DCAF, but it's most likely going to be changed later down the line.

If you know me, you probably know I fucking love making charsheets so I'm preemptively working on dcaf's charsheet right now until my dude shows up.

What are you working on right now?

I'm trying my hand at GMless scene creation. Improv game for 3-5 players. In this instance in the context of hardboiled crime fiction. So far I have it where when you build the city and get important themes every player chooses one of five different questions and they correspond to a role in establishing scenes. Multiple if they are lacking five players:

>What are the people in the city like?
>What does the city look like?
>How does the oppressor interact with the city? (oppressor is rolled for previously)
>What are the laws like in the city?
>How is this world different from our own? (A wildcard option)

When the investigation begins and everything else is established a player would choose a lead they have and narrate their character investigating it while all players use their roles to narrate the elements of the scene. For the player who owns the turn they would play their narrative role and their character. Assigning roles in creating the scene was my attempt at not putting all the responsibility on one player to improv a scene at first and foster worldbuilding better.

For assistance, I give the suggestion to start building scenes by choosing your lead and then stating what you will be trying to do, where, and with who. From there everyone else can start working together to build the scene together.I'm not sure if this structure is necessary but it's my suggestion.

Now there is more stuff to be done in the scenes but I just want to make sure people can start building and establishing scenes collaboratively without much trouble. I'm doing my first playtest with this in a few days and I just don't want it to be a monumental failure. Any criticisms?

I'm Dming my first campaign and have run into a little problem. My players roll to persuade everything. I don't have a problem with this exactly, the problem is they're too good at it.
They're level 5 and have put everything into charisma so it isn't difficult for them to convince people to do things
I don't want to be the dm to set insanely high dcs because the players arent playing the way I want them too BUT at the same time they're going to get bored if EVERY single roll passes.
Anybody have any advice on how to handle this?

Attention to all members of this Branch. Somebody or quite possibly, -Something-, has contaminated many of our record vaults with a gooey substance that bears a heavy resemblance to strawberry jam, thus ruining several texts and manuscripts that we had secured. As well as that, we are also missing a specific piece from Containment Zone A-1, which might pose a problem for future research efforts.

Aside from these incidents, we are hoping that things will be going well for the most part. Thank you for your time.

OK then, although I'm still a little sceptical.

Mostly I'm just sick of my faction always being either irrelevant or incompetent. No priests exist in BL books that aren't dogmatic idiots that cause problems, Forge Worlds never manage to deal with shit themselves and are always taken down by stuff that they shouldn't even consider major threats, like 1/1000 the minimum Skitarii garrison for a major Forge World's number in Orks or a few thousand Marines and Imperial Army like on Mezoa, where the writers cut the defenders for an entire planet to less than 15 thousand and said the FW was crippled for decades because one Magos died and one forge was shot up with bolters.
Fucks sake, at least the Nids are given the decency of being killed rather than just ignored completely whenever we might get in the way or having every single battle we're in stolen by the Astartes. Would it kill the writers to have one or two books where they actually spend ten minutes to get their maths remotely close to proper scale? Or point out that the Imperium would pretty much instantly collapse without us so some Admech must be good at their jobs?

For 40k it works because its not changing anything fundamentally, its still is 1 minute to midnight, Chaos is still coming but nothing is dying, Terra wont burn and the Emperor is still Not!Dying. Its the same setting with new strands from where to build up new stories without needing to retread the same things again.

Fantasy suffered more because it changed it completely and suffers from the same thing Blizzard games do, its inability to build stories that matter in a place where everything is too big and epic for the audience to care about anything.

The book is out. Hard copy. I don't buy PDFs because I fucking hate reading them. Should I buy it? 33 bucks is a fair bit of money to be because I'm a wagecuck but it's not a major purchase decision. Unlikely I could get my group to play it because they are all pathfinder cucks, I've tried to run games in the vein of AW and they just shot everything up and won because they had OP armor I shouldn't have given them. Also they would sperg out at all the swearing and sex shit. Maybe I could find a text-only game on roll20.

Basically, help me decide whether to buy this book. I really, really love the apocalypse world setting, it's "implied" like D&D implies a setting without actually having one.

One thing I'm still unclear on, despite understand how the game works and how moves work, is how to reconcile them with the actual flow of an RPG session. Like, if the players end up on the roof of a building and try to jump from one building to another across a 5foot gap, is that acting under fire? How would you handle it? I know it's narrative so it should only be rolled for if there are interesting narrative consequences, but there are some pretty interesting consequences there in some ways (falling and taking a ton of harm).

Anyway just general discussion of the game, if you've run it greentext what happened. It's a fun little game and I really like it.

Also is it worth the extra 10 dollars for hardcover over softcover?
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
I always get hardcovers because they look nice in my shelves and I never get to play them anyway so yeah, I always pay the extra 10 bucks.

If the players go up to the top of the building without any pressure they just jump across, no roll needed. If they are being pursued, or they are pursuing something, then they are either acting under fire or go aggro. Remember the situation is not just "jumping across", the situation is the whole narrative around either getting away or chasing.
I swear there is a good pdf explaining all this. Maybe it was for Dungeon World instead?

Anyway, yes, since you really really love the setting, then you should buy this book.
>>
>>55140353
2nd ed is a lot less interesting to me because of the focus on more specific combat moves. Its not that different than 1st though.

Depends on if the jumping across a roof is interesting. If they're being chased, shot at, pursued, or other bad things can put them in complicated situations while they're running away roll for it. Maybe describing a zoom out of them hopping from roof to roof, they 7-9 it, zoom in and they land, roll, breathing heavy, everything's quiet for a breath and someone under them starts shooting holes in the roof. Look at the move list, think of a thing you can do to work with each of those. Future badness could be while they're high up they see a gathering mob in the distance, hard choices could be realizing they dropped an important thing a bit back. Hard move could be someone twists an ankle, what now? Asking them what bad thing they see up ahead is good too, like 'You look through sweat stinging your eyes and see Biff clambering up the generator stack to stop you, laughing manically. What's he so excited about?'

But if they're just escaping and there's not much going on skip it and move on.

I ran a one-shot a little while ago. My group wasn't able to run our usual game so we literally started making characters 5 minutes after deciding to play it, and then started the game itself as soon as character creation was done, which probably speaks to how prep-light the game is. The actual session went as follows:
>the Gunlugger shows up looking for revenge on the Maestro'D for leaving him for dead
>The Maestro'D manages to defuse the situation and talk the Gunlugger out of killing them
>The town authorities, who don't like the Maestro'D, then show up, the patrons managed to drive them out and the Gunlugger then decided to help as well
>Natrually this meant the entire town's security died
>Due to the resulting vacuum the Maestro'D took command of the town
>The Driver then heard news of a roving warlord in the area, so they drove the Maestro'D out to try and negotiate
>The Maestro'D agreed to give the warlord tribute
>When the soldiers came back to town though and started taking food and supplies it was revealed the Maestro'D had poisoned said food
>the warlord's forces then fought The Driver and The Gunlugger
>If was a tough battle but the warlord was killed along with his soldiers
It was a short session but it was fun
