Have any of you anons looked at both World War Cthulhu and Achtung! Cthulhu? How do they measure up? I've done a cursory glance at both, and they both seem very interesting, but Achtung! Cthulhu looks pretty god damn campy. Does its material fit into the same general tone of other Call of Cthulhu modules, or is it just too crazy and pulpy for that? World War Cthulhu looks a lot more grounded in comparison, but there is a lot less material published under that line. What have been your experiences with World War II Cthulhu games?

Song of Swords is a a tabletop RPG centered around realistic medieval fightan' with a ludicrous variety of weapons and fighting styles, centered around a dice pool system. It's currently in beta, and can be used for both fantasy and historical games. Kickstarter is happening NOW we are kicking ass baby!

Call of the Void: Ballad of the Laser Whales is a pulpy sci-fi tabletop RPG about fighting space-nazis and hunting giant whales with harpoons made out of the moon. Its combat system is more modern, based in the early 20th century, but can probably handle combat up to the present day.

In this thread, lets discuss changes and improvements for the Tyranid Codex. We had another one of these threads a week ago and one anon said that he was working on a custom dex before the thread died. So I'm hoping for an update on that, if anybody knows.

A few suggestions right off the bat:

Special rules
>Shadow: affects warp charges, maybe reduces them
>Synapse: maybe unit specific buffs? Needs the double strength Eternal Warrior again
>Instinctive behavior: One table, no more cannibalism. Falling back should be towards nearest Synapse unit

general unit changes:

Lictors and burrowing models can deploy in combat, the enemy can't overwatch or attack in the first round of combat.

All Tyranids can reroll failed saves against Overwatch

+1 toughness on all MCs

Tyranid FMCs inflict hits with their melee weapon stats and attacks when vector striking.

All Tyranid ranged weapons always hit vehicle rear armour.

Lictors are 1-5 per slot, each Lictor in your army extends your deployment zone by 1" and gives +1 to Seize the Initiative.

Breath of the Wild got me thinking about this lately, and I was wondering if there was any particular reason this project fell dormant. If not, this seems like a great time to pick it back up again. It seems really close to complete, it could just use a little more polish and some added content to reflect more recent games (Even though BotW on it's own adds so much).

I personally love this but I think it is still incomplete. Particularly I would love a proper enemy list alongside modifiers to make each enemy unique.

Now, with BotW out, there is a lot of stuff that can be added now (new armors, weapons, enemies, foods, etc.)

Seriously, every player and gamemaster needs to play this video game as well as the RPG you linked.

Sounds like you're not communicating the risk well enough.
Either that, or you're suddenly introducing unwinnable fights in a game where the players have beaten every single foe before.
Or perhaps they think they can still win, and don't want to abandon their fallen allies.

In all cases, be more overt. If you want your players to make informed decisions, you've got to give them information.
Explain to them exactly how deadly the creature is, explicitly. Don't make it sound attractive to fight it, or imply that it can be beaten.

I've been thinking about terms like Monty Haul and Killer DM. There must be more DM personalities that can cause problems in a game than these, they're just the furthest extremes.

For example my DM is more like the inverse of a Monty Haul DM.

Like he's more like Scrooge McDuck: he'll take you on an awesome globetrotting adventure but any gold or fantastic relics will remain firmly locked up in the DM's high security arsenal, firmly out of the players' grasp and only trotted out to be a part of the outfits of impressive npcs. He can also be stingy with experience, like only awarding us experience for monsters we kill and often having enemies flee encounters when it's clear the PCs will triumph.

I don't really think he's doing it on purpose but I'm not really sure how to bring it up without it sounding like I'm whining about not being showered with magic items at the end of every session.

Player frustration thread I guess.

Hard campaigns are more immersive than Monty Haul campaigns for obvious reasons: your buddy is just sloppily trying to keep things under control. Every experienced GM knows that players are likely to be greedy, and find every possible angle to increase their power. He's giving you the other side of the coin.

Nothing wrong with making monsters flee, they're not always statblocks on steroids: if you take too much heat, you bail, and the rule applies to everyone - even NPCs.

Being a little stingy sometimes is good overall, but everyone should get that one little something special and unique that is only theirs, because it can help make a character more interesting. I tend to give something like this out pretty early, then be pretty stingy, and then more once they feel like they really earned it.

Plus if the players do something really creative or crafty or cool to acquire some wealth or special items, I'm not gonna be a dick and say no.

Agreed but the party should still get XP for overcoming the enemy. Bad guys dont just keep XP coins in their pockets that can only be taken when theyre dead

While not the normal sort, I do love Sabriel and the concept of the Abhorsen in general as a heroic archetype of necromancer.
