What system to run Harry Potter? Not in the school, but as adults doing wizard stuff. I assume you'd want rules light, right?
>>52171200
I'd hack Gumshoe to be honest, 80% of Harry Potter is running about looking for clues as to what's fuging things up this year. I'd run it episodic with the over arching meta-plot touching each little mystery/adventure.
You get skill points from the classes and allocate to show aptitude/diligence/ability to pay attention then you get to going into more specific stuff as you take your electives in later years. I'll probably put more thought into this what I actually get round to running it.
Fate or my personal favourite narrative system NGS. Assign spells or hell even entire genres (divination, potions, charms, etc) as aspects, as well as other everyday aspects.

Do you allow your PCs to haggle or are all prices set?
Unless they're in a bumfuck village somewhere all prices are set in stone.
>>52170810
Always haggle unless it's a modern day store.
All prices start at least double PHB standard.
I sometimes allow haggling, depending on setting-appropriateness and whether I feel like I have time for that bullshit.
Has a game which purported to be about "anime" (not some specific anime, an actual "anime RPG") ever managed to be anything but a low-quality generic/superhero system?
>>52170648
No, but I'm sure the resident BESMfags will be along shortly to insist that their generic system is actually a perfect adaptation of anime because some of the descriptions reference anime tropes.

How does Wu Jen with Animate Dead fare compared with other Necromancers?
Hello /tg
I'm planing on returning to rpg playing after 10 years of absence. Last time i played some DnD 3e campaigns.
I've heard dnd4e is out, now DnD 5e is developing. I also heard some good things about Castle and Crusades.
I also looked at some smaller/kickstartish games around, but lack of material and general emphasis on theatre of the mind scared me away from those. So I'm planning to return to DnD.
Did anybody here played C&C? Maybe I should give a chance and not monopolize the DnD dudes.
(sorry for broken english on my side)
>>52170285
>I've heard dnd4e is out, now DnD 5e is developing.
D&D 5e is long been out. Castles and Crusades is actually just a stripped down 3.5 that kinda feels a bit more like AD&D. Only real issues with C&C are on the editing side.
>>52170630
Oh. So which one would you play? Popularity is not a factor for me becouse I don't go to those kind of meetings, it's just for my group.
>>52170673
I preferred C&C when I played it, but there really isn't a huge difference between the two. Only that 5e has more powers and class features for doing stuff that players should naturally be able to do.

Jump #271: Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers
>The Chariot, reversed: Lack of discipline and poor direction fan the flames of a situation already out of control.
Mistakes were made, but c'mon, who's surprised by this by now?
>Age: Old
>Location: The Moon
Listening to Rita whining about everything for centuries is DEFINITELY the way to go. Yeeeah.
>Identity: Drop-In
>Drawbacks: 10,000 Years In Prison (+300)
REGRETS. ENDLESS REGRETS. Argh.
>Color Change (1250, Drop-In)
Well, it's more permanent than a coloring charm.
>Sixth Ranger (1050, Drop-In)
Technically wouldn't this be seventh? I mean, I'm not planning on actually stealing the green ranger's spot, no matter how much of an insufferable Mary Sue the canon sixth ranger is.
>It's Morphin' Time (850)
Sometimes it doesn't hurt to be able to change forms instantaneously. With what I've got for alt forms, it's pretty quick, but it's been limited. And the larger the size change, the longer it takes.
>Teamwork (450)
Frankly the most interesting part of this perk is that a few hours of practice is sufficient to pass it on to others. You can bet I'll be using THAT aspect in the future.
>Sparks (350)
Sometimes you have to make a point. Whether a hit is effective or not, it's nice to know you're having an impact.
>Dragon Shield (300, Drop-In)
Gold is tacky, but it fits, I suppose.
>Power Morpher (200)
As terrible as spandex is, I'll be using it anyway. No mecha though; just means the canon rangers have to save the day.
>Sword of Darkness (0)
You know what's funny? I don't think I have any swords that are actually magic, yet. I mean, the Sword of Polaris thing means that I AM a sword, so to speak, but it does not so much GIVE me a sword. And this one has some nice qualities; I think I'll keep it.
>>52170081
MOTHERFUCKER CRUX YOU GOT ME GOOD.
FUCKING WELL PLAYED SIR.
>>52170081
So riddle me this. When is a power ranger not a power ranger? When they end up in the universe from the 1995 movie rather than the sentai show. The white(!) ranger was part of the lineup from the start, apparently, and that skews a great many things. For instance, when Goldar attacked Angel Grove, it merited a full blown military response. It wasn't overly effective, but HEAT shells proved to not be totally ineffective against giant monsters.
So! This basically means the stakes are a little higher. No, the monsters aren't just going out and murdering people en masse (not dumb enough to take THAT drawback here), but it does mean that I can't follow the plot with meta-knowledge, and it also means that the monsters fight a little smarter and actually use some degree of tactics. And that everything does not automatically happen in quarries and open fields, but in the city itself. It also means that the plot doesn't get retarded and end up in space later, but... yeah. Tech on Earth is slightly ahead of the curve, moon missions in the 90's were unexpected but apparently the case. On the plus side, the armor looks somewhat better. yeah?
Once free, I go to Earth and try to blend in, and get a job as a substitute teacher at a certain high school which permits me to disappear as needed and keep a variable schedule. Then pop into the command center after the rangers get recruited and have a quick heart-to-heart with Zordon. Explain I was dropped in from another dimension, ended up here and am definitely not a villain - quite the opposite, in fact - and want to help out. End up on the team, not fighting on the front lines 80% of the time, but actively training the other rangers. Because I have training perks up the wazoo, and due to the amped up opposition, they're going to need it.
Fun fact: gold armor goes surprisingly well with black spandex. Being the gold ranger and only making occasional appearances when things merit it seems the way to go.
ITT: We post, discuss, and share dragon-related stuff. How do you like your dragons? What defines a dragon? How smart should they be?
Io worshipping is fine too.
>>52170064
It Depends on the setting more than anything and can range from large hulking beasts with little intelligence to wise lords of the sky
as for looks for me they should vary in size shape and basic structure from snake-like to more bird like
I like dragons being completely alien in their logic, a different and cosmic point of view. at least the elder ones, younger ones i like to think of as the violent ones, the chaotic shit wrecking princess thieves, or the rule by fear asshats that happen in every campaign.
To me a dragon is usually a long lived creature with above average intelligence, reptilian in nature, possessing something that puts them (literally) heads and shoulders above most naturally occurring things in a setting. Basically, smart, powerful, and kinda off defines a dragon to me.
A whelp should be able to wreck a villager hands down, maybe a guy or 2 in Armour, but not a group of low level PC's, or even a smart pair of lowlies. only through true luck would one be slain by a single low level dude.
Basically, about as powerful as a group of somewhat smart PC's.
Is D&D popular for good reason?
It seems like many, many people have fond memories of it, continue to play it or have just found the game.
It fosters and stokes the imagination, builds communication and social skills and teamworking, helps nuture creativity, among other things.
>>52169674
It also clutters the head with useless rules. You could learn a foreign language instead of learning D&D
>>52169674
Most of it is just good memories of playing pretend with their friends and the actual system is irrelevant.
D&D is popular because
1. it has a HELL of a brand name (seriously, it rolls off the tongue, it's catchy, it puts you in the proper mindset of what it is, it's an A+++ grade marketable name)
2. it has seniority (nobody remembers Chainmail so it's really the first "pretend with dice & rules" game)
>>52169704
That's only the 3e iterations. They contain the cluttering useless rules.

Actual old thread:

It was a modified Kingmaker campaign.
Two huge armies were marching towards our capital city. We'd just finished kicking out the occupying force, and had spent most of our resources and favors just doing that. We didn't have the BP to fund an army except for some golems an NPC ally had and a couple of Leadership-based follower squads, one of which was cut down from trying to redirect the second army into the first, with limited success.
Our king, being a big dumb Str/Cha build, went off to challenge some orcs for leadership and managed to drag a horde back to help fight, while the team Bard went north to another land and tried to get an audience with one of our enemies.
She was rich, powerful, from an old family, and moreover related to both the leader of one of the invaders and the leader of the occupying force. We didn't have shit to offer her except what we'd just spent half the campaign taking away from her and her cousins.
Except, apparently, the king's hand in marriage. Having been already courting a local cleric, he made a face that could top off a One Piece arc when he found out.
