Honestly, I'm not sure that any of the Trek RPG's are good for a first outing. You certainly could make it work. A good GM/group can make any system work. But unless you're all Star Trek fans, I would suggest trying something a little less ambitious.
Fantasy Flight has a fair few entry level RPGs, I'd start looking there.

The removing the crits part is the way to go. Burnthrough array that is something like 5+ lock, (10 dice) would be interesting.

As a GM, I was thinking of interesting social conundrums, and stumbled upon a very interesting one.
You, the player, are having a public conversation with a public personality (a king, a news anchor, a political activist, etc). You are from one nation, the public personality is from another. You are to discuss a variety of political topics, with the end goal being to win as many debates as possible, and represent your nation/faction/employer/whoever-made-you-go-to-this-thing in the best light possible, to everyone listening to the conversation.
This conversation is very important in a political/diplomatic sense.
The topic of conversation meanders toward a certain 'war hero'. To the audience watching you, and indeed the nation of the public personality, this person was a valiant hero, sacrificing their life for their nation during a battle.
But you, and most people in the other nations of world, know his actions were questionable at best, and outright war crimes at worst.
The people of the speaker's nation, however, believe he is a national hero with fervour. They will not listen to reason on this, especially from a foreigner.
This is important: the 'hero' in question is objectively a bad person, a pawn for a tyrannical government, and a poster-boy for the nationalist sentiments of the nation.
As the topic is discussed, the public personality asks you: "Do you think X is a hero?"
Now, as stated previously, it is important that the outcome of this conversation be positive to -everyone- listening, including the people of the speaker's nation. Being honest, and pointing out that he wasn't such a good guy, will draw outrage from the speaker's nation. "How dare this foreigner insult our glorious hero, that filthy imperialist pig-dog!", they would say. But, agreeing that he is a hero would alienate the people from your own nation. "Why is that moron praising a war criminal?!" they would say.
The only real option is to dance around the question. So, what do?

Tessagog is a character that was physically
designed around the idea of being a collaborative Frankenstein of popular female characters on /tg/.
>the body is both statuesque and stacked with Sorceress TnA and covered in Liliana markings with Yukinas chiseled back. She also has the Sisters of Battle's shoulder pauldrons with the Lady of Pain's blade feathers decorating it like a cape while also wearing Snake scale gauntlets. She has Marcille's pointed elf ears and blonde hair. She weilds dual dwarven axes. She has Celestines child bearing hips and Alariels perfect calves/thighs. She has sexy yellow Orc eyes with a Red Sonja inspired chainmail bikini top. She has creamy asian colored skin and wears Greek inspired Greaves with leather strapped backs and Orc carvings in the armor while being bare footed. She has a thin, Whale Tail styled chainmail loin cloth bottom with a wolf head sporran in front of it.
The current lore is that she was raised by her father as part of a warrior tribe, and when she came of age she went on a journey to become stronger and learn of the world, as is tradition in the tribe. The only possession she took with her was her fathers enchanted axe. After returning from her journey she sets out to fulfill her ambition and rule all northern tribes of the Ou/tg/rounds. On this journey she will meet two party members, a wizard and a rouge. She also brings with her another magic axe, a wolf companion, and the runes that protect her on this journey.

Here is what I have gathered for the 1st companion that Tessagog meets:
Vaynth Helbbruk the Mage
She wears Elesh Norn's mask and a big pointed witch's hat. She has a flowing/billowing dress on with some light plate armor pieces. She holds a long magical rod based on the Maiden in Black staff. Resting at her hip is a Chaos Sorcerer's spellbook. Her Elbow length Gloves/Knee high high heel Boots are a white color that matches her mask. The under layer of her dress and her collar are the same color as her flame of the end of her staff. She is an Elf with Dunmer colored skin and has purple colored hair. Her main style color choices should be purple.
Vaynth's personality is polite, but not to be messed with. She focuses on the Healing domain of magic but does have a good knowledge of basic magic.

It is 467 years since the Battle of Penco, fought between 60,000 Mapuche under the command of their toqui Ainavillo with his Araucan and Tucapel allies, and Pedro de Valdivia's 200 Spaniards on horse and afoot with a large number of yanakuna including 300 Mapochoes auxiliaries, defending their newly raised fort at Penco. It was part of the Arauco War.
After toqui Ainavillo's defeat in the Battle of Andalien he gathered tens of thousands of warriors from the Arauco and Tucapel regions to reinforce his depleted 15,000 man army for an attack on Valdivia's new settlement at Penco. Meanwhile Valdivia's force took eight days to construct a fort with a circuit of 1500 paces around his new settlement with a ditch 12 feet deep and wide. The excavated earth was used to fill in behind a wall of tree trunks driven into the earth above the ditch. It had three gates with well built bastions provided with artillery. Following the construction of the fort, Valdivia established the city of Concepción del Nuevo Extremo there on March 3, 1550. He also sent out patrols of his cavalry to call on the local Mapuche to submit to Spanish rule and provide food and service to the Spanish.
On March 12, Ainavillo's army of sixty thousand warriors advanced against the fort at Penco in three separate bodies with 5,000 skirmishers covering their advance and deployment. Once they had arrived they surrounded the fort on all sides but were not equipped to storm the deep ditch and the wall above it. They could only fire arrows and stones at the walls and shout threats leaving the Spanish safe inside. Inside the fort there was some discontent among the conquistadors at being so hemmed in and letting the Mapuche gain courage thinking the Spaniards were afraid of them by not fighting in the field where their cavalry had always been able to defeat these enemies.

Challenging question. Superheroes are one of those game types GURPS struggles on, partly because it's a game where being able to run at light speed cost a lot of points.
That said, I've had a lot of fun in Grimwyld playing someone that is in that gray zone between 'heroic fantasy' and 'superhero', with tremendous physical strength and toughness. In GURPS that's something of an expensive combo, ST is pricy, but it leads to dramatic and fun characters.

Traveller is a classic science fiction system first released in 1973. In its original release it was a general purpose SF system, but a setting was soon developed called The Third Imperium, based on classic space opera tropes of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, with a slight noir tint.
Though it can support a wide range of game types, the classic campaign involves a group of retired veterans tooling around in a spaceship, taking whatever jobs they can find in a desperate bid to stay in business, a la Firefly or Cowboy Bebop.
