BATTLEFLEET GOTHIC WHEN!?!?!
>>52175711
It's not a boardgame
It's meant for new players.
Princess thread! Talk about princesses and stuff. Saving, kidnapping or working for them for fun and profit.

So which race has the best princesses?
>>52175585
This seems relevant.
>>52175612
Depends on the setting, but I'd probably say humans or elves.
Elven royalty would have extremely long reigns during which they'd amass a wealth of experience (assuming they weren't killed).
I'm new to this traditional game thing.
What are some reckless generalizations I should avoid making?
>>52175346
"Have you tried not playing D and D?" is a meme spouted by idiots who have some pet indie system they really enjoy and causes them to lash out against D and D because it's the most popular, in the hopes that people will play their shitty pet system instead.Instead all they do is look whiny and toxic and drive people away from the hobby altogether.
>>52175346
That having tg hobbies is cheap. Be prepared to drop several hundred, if not thousand, of dollars. Depending on the game of course
>>52178554
That usually gets posted in response to "I am having a problem that is directly caused by adherence to the D&D rules wat do", though.
I get that you're new to RPGs and have brand loyalty to Hasbro, which is fine.
How do you make original fantasy races?
>>52174930
>take a human
>give him traits of various animals
>give him some generic modifiers and such
i mean orcs for example are basically just pigmen
>>52174963
That's not a bad plan. I do like various shades of animal people, furry or not, but the trouble is finding what animals to actually use.
I combine a bunch of animals into an anthropomorphic form and give it a dumb name with a bunch of apostrophes.
In owod mages have godlike magic powers because they have fragments of god in them.
In nwod mages have godlike magic powers because humans are just awesome i guess.
In owod vampires exist because they were cursed by god.
In nwod vampires exist because i dunno.
In owod demons were angels who rebelled against god and imprisoned in the abyss.
In nwod demons are robots who rebelled against some machine that some person or organization built at some point for some reason.
okay

Really makes you think
>>52174662
Fired up my neurons
Is there a point in keeping martials and mages separate from one another?
Like when you look at what a martial is capable of doing in fiction, a lot of their abilities are clearly beyond what a normal person is capable of, like fighting a dude underwater for 3 days straight while holding your breath, or flicking your finger with enough force to fire air bullets at your opponents, or leaping several miles in a single bound, among other feats.
With this in mind, is there honestly a difference between a dude who punches fast enough that the air itself catches fire and another dude who uses magic to ignite the air to shoot a fireball at someone?
Do games necessarily benefit from separating martials and mages, rather than having them be a single path with the difference coming down to how you choose to utilize whatever magical force is present within the setting?
>>52173668
>>52173668
There can be some overlap but at the end of the day it basically depends on tone, theme and style, which basically depends on setting and GM.
There is no right way to do it, just a hundred thousand different wrong ways.
>>52173702
>>52173718
Let me make it easy for you then.
In a world where "magic" exists, and every major character is aware of it and has access to it, is there really any point in distinguishing martials from mages when they're both capable of performing shit that's way beyond the peak of humanity by the simple fact that they're player characters?
It's out, /tg/.
Have we had this storytime already?
Oh shit looks like /tg/ got through the fun part of a project. Now for the not so fun part. Come in a shitpost about Bionicle and Charles II, discuss game mechanics and LORE, and try and figure out how a levy of spainish pikeman could take on a howitzer

boy oh boy I wish I could post a microsoft word document to 4chan. Wouldn't that be nice? So that others could edit it? You can all thank our japanese step-dad for that one. And our real dad I guess

>>52173483
A howitzer isn't effective without anyone to man it.
How the hell do we balance JoJo and Jesus?
How do you guys handle languages in your games ?
I made a couple of languages for fun, but I don't use them. What's the point?
>>52173482
I ask the DM if I understand that bullshit and he tells me no.
I have sample phrases that I use when a chance presents itself.
I fucked up and nearly wrecked the WWII vet of our workshop, a 12ton Kearns horizontal boring machine. By accident, I went all the way up to the limit of the machine and didn't stop in time. Now it will not properly traverse along that axis anymore (up down axis if you need to know) until it's fixed.
I feel really, really sorry, like I accidentally tripped up and broke the hip of a wizened old man who was always helpfull and told great stories. How do I make amends to the omnissiah? Pic related, me and the machine in happier times.
Perform the required maintenance rituals and apply sacred machine oil. Clean any grime off and inscribe the sigil of the Mechanicus on the machine. Light incense to please the spirit.
>>52174455
We already used His Blessed Deliverance in Liquid Form, aka WD40, and it didn't help. The central shaft with screwthread on it is jammed stuck inside it's housing, that is the core problem. It won't come out and the maintenance rituals are sadly lost to this particular temple. All we have are the basic daily service rites (operators manual).
What kind of incense would work best?
Find traverse mechanism for that axis, check alignment. That's usually the issue.
Also, tell your local techpriest. Check internet and shop storage for manuals.

I'm going to be annoyed when they bring out more models that patch the weaknesses of factions while bloating the game unnecessarily.
But the new Master upgrades (Mk.2, Veteran, whatever" mite b cool.
>>52174046
I don't think that the game will be especially bloated, but rounding out all weaknesses can be an issue. Though I may just be salty after bringing excorsists against a Ressurectionist player who had no undead models in their crew.
What I really want to see is a new system of some sort. Crossroads gave us scenarios, and Shifting Loyalties gave us campaigns. Something big like that to make up for no new masters would be rad.
>>52174295
Personally i think new masters, totems and upgrades are the best way to add new models without causing bloat issues, because you can't take multiple of them at once. Upgrades can be made limited, you can only (usually) have one totem and certainly you can't have two masters.
Another really solid idea could be to add a new mini-faction with some gimmick like not having many of its own models, but being able to hire strange lists through its master upgrades. Sort of a faction with 3 or 4 jack daw style masters and a handful of its own models.
Is it considered railroading to present your players with a situation that, no matter what they do, they fail? Even if they do everything right, ace all their rolls, land every hit in combat and deal a good amount of damage per turn, the outcome is they till don't accomplish what they set out for. The innocents still suffer, the BBEG still escapes, the escape shuttle still blows up, etc etc.
I guess what I'm asking is: Should the PCs always win? Or is it okay for them to sometimes lose, no matter how many nat 20s they roll?
>>52173283
>is forcing a predetermined outcome regardless of what the players do railroading?
You tell me, OP.
>>52173283
That is the definition of railroading, yes.

Speaking as a DM, fucking illusionists. It puts so much pressure on the DM to work out the reactions of the enemy to the illusion. They're very polarising; some fights they'll basically win/avoid alone, some fights they'll do fuck-all. They annhilate certain enemy types, and do jack shit to others.
They're just so black-and-white in terms of effectiveness.
>>52170931
As I love to meticulously concern myself with the "feel" of things unarmed martial arts monks are kind of a sore concept.
When they are a thing, they kind of make regular warriors feel less competent for relying on the "crutch" of weapons but on the other hand feel more boring because they can't have weapons.
And I dislike characters where having a "pet" is the main thing. Summoners, beastmasters, Pokémon trainers. I don't like when the companion overtakes the actual character in importance and it seems like the character is only there by virtue of being the one with connection to the creature. It is also less satisfying to interact with animals than with persons from a roleplaying perspective.
Bow guy. Don't get me wrong, I love bows. But I feel like they should be a lot more common and part of the arsenal of literally anybody who intends on killing something.
I even like characters to whom bow proficiency is a central attribute. But swaths of ridiculous abilities and a built in forester theme (lookin at you DnD, also hunters from wow) cheapen the purity of the bow as just a weapon.
What are your thoughts on /m/ech(a)s?
Have you been playing any game related to the subject recently?
DMd a session that was Armored Core inspired.
I had to rush preparing for it, so it was just a barfight followed by a mission where they were betrayed by Patches (who they promptly kicked the shit out of).
>>52171089
What sort of mech did patches roll with?

He was using a medium weight biped with knock-off Karasawa and Moonlight and a ridiculously powerful overboost system. He was also supported by a number of low-end construction/security MTs. He also appeared after the players were supposedly exhausted, but he (I) apparently underestimated their combat prowess, and he promptly got focus fired down.
I did drop hints that this equipment is way above what his paygrade should be, but since it was a short session, players didn't have time to follow up on it. They looted the !Karasawa and let him live in exchange for the promise of selling them restricted equipment.
