In a tabletop game recently I smacked over the opponent's ball carrier, followed up and then rolled scatter (it scattered onto my guy) and my opponent goes "no, I roll for scatter because it was my model holding the ball". Is that actually a thing or was he just being That Guy just to keep the ball out of my hands? I've only recently gotten into playing it on tabletop so a lot of the nitty gritty dice stuff that the videogames did for me are hard to adapt to (that and losing rerolls due to illegal proceedings when I forget to move my turn counter).

He was completely being ThatGuy, whether he was correct or not, I'll check the roll book.
Hasn't been one in a while.

So, about to finish up my current campaign with victory or death. After this I plan to do Dragon King for the first time.
Does Dragon King play well with any expansions? I'm thinking of swapping in Slender Man, since I am kinda tired of Armored Strangers and the Kingsmen.
Likewise, can I afford to add in or swap around Quarry?
>>52073708
Slenderman is a bad fit for Dragon King, since it gradually takes over your entire campaign.
While some people would recommend against "diluting" your Fighting Art and Disorder decks with other expansions, I've found that it makes very little difference. I would work in Gorm, Flower Knight, Dung Beetle Knight, Manhunter, and possibly Sunstalker.
>>52073752
> since it gradually takes over your entire campaign
Does it? I haven't used Slendy before, wanted to keep my first game fairly vanilla. I hear that he eventually replaces the rest of your nemesis fights. But I'm okay with that since my group is sort of 'meh' on the Butcher and the Hand anyway.
Is there any effect beyond that which would screw with Dragon King?
Storythread. Yep. Pretty much all there is to say about that. A thread for stories. Obvious, really.
This is a thread for creative writing, so epic campaign greentexts and the like go elsewhere. If you have /tg/ related stories to post, post them here, and hopefully some kind anon will give you feedback (or at least acknowledge that someone did actually read it, which let's face it is what writefags really want).
If you don't have a story ready then I and other anons will be posting pictures throughout the thread for you to test your writing skills on. This is, more or less, a world-building and character-building exercise: two vital skills for playing roleplaying games. If you don't have any pics to post, you could try posting an idea for a setting or a character, and maybe someone will be willing to write a story using it. It's also an exercise in writing though, where writefags can try out their material and gain inspiration, so if you just want to talk about world-building save it for the world-building threads.
Remember that writefags love to have feedback on their work. Writing takes a long time, especially stories that go over several posts, and it can be really depressing when no one even seems to read it (and the writer won't know you read it unless you leave a comment).
And since writing takes a long time remember to keep the thread bumped. Pics are good, feedback is better.
The previous thread will still be in the archive for a few more hours here:

So something really awkward happened in last night's game and I'm having a hard time whether or not it's my fault.
I'm a level 17 Wizard and I'm in a party with a bunch of fighters, rogues, and barbarians that are really getting into the worldbuilding aspect of downtime. DM says a band of orcs is going to raid one of the cities the rest of my party wants for their territory expansion, but they can't be bothered to go and confront them so they send me to do it.
I don't know shit about fighting against 1000 orcs so DM lets me roll knowledge to get a hint on how to beat them. My knowledge roll told me that orcs value strength and find weakness repulsive, so I got the idea that I'd just try to make the warchief look like a wuss and then mission accomplished somehow (sounds stupid in retrospect).
I go in front of the orcs and demand to challenge the warchief for supremacy. DM responds with the warchief trying to intimidate me with all 1000 orcs each adding +2 to his roll. The other party members spend 10 minutes trying to convince the DM that fear from intimidate is blocked by Mind Blank, while I'm silently pondering if this is even worth anything if the DM is gonna pull shit like that.
Warchief accepts my challenge, and the DM says "the first to fall to the ground is the loser." Then activates an item that gives him an Antimagic Field. I respond by casting Invoke Magic and then casting Wrack, which should have made the warchief become blind and fall to the ground helpless. DM doesn't like that, and has the Warchief order his "faithful warriors" to kill me. I respond by flying 40 feet in the air out of their reach.
DM sighs and says "You're being an asshole, dude."
>its a dnd rollplay conflict episode
How about no?
>>52253963
Sounds like you have a shitty DM.
>>52253963
Need more info:
>I respond by casting Invoke Magic and then casting Wrack, which should have made the warchief become blind and fall to the ground helpless.
Explain why this is true if he's in an antinagic field.
I'm not familiar.
>DM doesn't like that
How is this known?
>the Warchief order his "faithful warriors" to kill me.
Dishonorable warchief should be mocked as weak.
>I respond by flying 40 feet in the air out of their reach.
Sensible reaction to dishonorable orcs attcking.
>DM sighs and says "You're being an asshole, dude."
What did he say when you asked him why he thought so or what he meant?
A dragon is not an asshole for flying out of range and using their breath weapon, it is a victor.
You were taking extra time in solo combat while others wanted worldbuilding downtime, but as you told it, I don't see that you had another option other than handwaving failure and shrugging.

that shit worth watching? i can't help but notice there's only one male character
>>52252031
It's a harem isekai series whose sole purpose is to take the absolute piss out of actual harem and isekai series. It's good fun, decent length (two 10-episode seasons + an OVA), and the wonky animation makes it more enjoyable. Good for a laugh and feeling good.
>>52252031
It's ok. It's a parody on PnP games, JRPGs and harem animes.
The main character loathes the chicks and actively tries to prevent them from joining his group. The girls are all crazy and/or useless. No romantic tension at all. Watch if if you have too much spare time on your hands. Expect lots of sarcasm and JRPG tropes played with.
How accurate is this?
>>52247850
I'd move 40k up a notch, personally. The video games have given it significant exposure outside the tabletop audience.
>>52247913
>>52247850
40k is normie territory. LotR too, after the movies. Discworld is nerdling, BSG is AT MOST nerdling, and probably normie. Cyberpunk is nerdling because it's entirely possible to have got into multiple works across multiple media without being a nerd.
>other anime
This covers stuff like mecha, cyberpunk and seinen action series too though, which are a lot more accessible to mainsteam culture than the usual anime full of otaku bait.

I was just going along, living my life, when you fucked reminded me of this series. Then I went and read a bit of every book again. I must have been retarded when I was a teenager; its horrible.
So, thought experiment. Assuming we keep the first book (which wasn't very good to begin with), what do we do with the sequels to save the series?

What's the best system for horror?
>>52240974
F.A.T.A.L. I guarantee after 10 minutes you and everyone else in your group will be horrified.
>>52240974
None.
It's hard as fuck to get the atmosphere of the room right, player buy-in is almost impossible to get with most groups and nearly every GM is nowhere near good enough to pull it off right.
Depends what kind of horror. There's a huge number of different options out there, so I'll just list my favourites.
I'm partial to Don't Rest Your Head, which is horror through self destruction, putting players against impossible monsters and giving them all the power they need to survive, but making them ask whether victory is worth the cost. DRYH is a game for short campaigns and one shots, but I still love a system which draws players into an endless spiral of self destruction as they struggle to stay alive, stay awake and stay human, and at the end of the day they can generally only pick two out of three, if they're lucky.
Unknown Armies is another interesting one, postmodern horror which inverts the usual tropes of Lovecrafts cosmic horror. Instead of humanity being a tiny, insignificant speck in an vast and uncaring universe, UA puts humanity at the center of everything. The tagline of the game is 'You did it', and the fundamental horror of the setting lies in that intimate sense of personal responsibility. It really is all our fault, and no matter what monster or abomination might rise from the shadows, you're just cleaning up your own messes. There's nobody to blame but us.
What rules do YOU prefer?
>Armour as ablative HP
>Armour as bonus to defense
>Armor as damage reduction
>Some combination of the above?
>Something else entirely?
What's more realistic? What's more fun to play? What fits into your game better?
>>52240827
Armour as damage reduction, with different types/levels of reduction for different types of attack (Smashing, Piercing, Slashing, Crushing, etc), often rising to the point that some types of attack are completely ignored.
Armor as bonus to defence. I prefer to keep things simple so having just two pre-calculated numbers and a single roll to compare is beneficial. Especially that there is also no separate roll for damage and it's derived from difference between attack roll and defence instead.
>>52240827
A combo of bonus to defense and damage reduction. Realistically, armour is shaped with the intention to deflect a lot of the time, hence the bonus to defense. And armour is always meant to reduce the impact of blows that do hit.
Statyourself
>>52238917
Sub-par stats with high WIS, and a number of feats, but only with flaws taken, around middle-class NPC class levels.
Low physical stats except for an average CON score. Average intelligence. Below average wisdom. Shit Charisma (no drive).
Str: 11
Dex: 9
Con: 9
Int: 11
Wis: 11
Cha: 11
Maybe an Intelligence of 12 but even then I think that'd be a bit masturbatory
What common misconceptions do you see perpetrated by other world-builders?
>lakes can only have one drainage river
>rivers never diverge or have two mouths
>islands are always volcanic
>deserts always appear on one side of a mountain range
>woodland never grows on two sides of a mountain range
>coasts can never be smooth
>ice sheets/tundra distribute equally across the north at the same latitude
>rivers never start near each other
>rivers never start where another ends
>all rivers need mouths
>lakes without visible drainage will always be salty
