You get lots of stereotypes of certain races teaming up, and sharing civilizations.
>Orcs and Goblins
>Dwarves and Humans
>Elves and Fae
What are some great combos like these? What would be their symbiotics? What are some duos youd love to see more of??
Whos YOUR buddy race?
Never have really given it much thought, but I like the concept of racial buddies. One example I know of is in Savage World's primary space supplement (Last Parsec) where the cat people have a special bond with the plant people, since the latter are afraid of herbivores and the cat people have no issue with adopting carnivorous diets (and thus hunting the plant people's predators). I can imagine the smells and scents of a flower-rich world would also be pleasurable to a cat.
>>52309526
I've been working on a space setting where one of the defining alliances is that humans get on with the pack-carnivore race far better than the herd-herbivore race. The herbivores view any killing for sustenance as abominable, while a fully carnivorous species might just behave like slightly more violent humans, as they understand the necessity of death.

Timid ass herbivores, i spit on them!

The villagers you "saved" from a vampire who mostly minded his own business aside from the odd nibble outnumber you 30 to 1, and have nothing to lose. How do you unfuck this situation?

>It still boggles my mind some lady lighting a fire is enough to keep those things out, when the Aedra are supposed to be far diminished from creating everything.
MAGIC!
Nah I dunno. If I had to guess I'd say it's a Morgoth type thing. They're "diminished", but the power is still there, just tied up in the world instead of being something they can exercise freely.
>Just how potent ARE they even outside of them? I'm pretty sure Sheogorath teleports you into the sky at one point.
He does that in the Shivering Isles.
I mean, they're still pretty potent I guess, just not in biggatons type stuff. Both the Dunmer and the Orsimer are the results of curses laid on what were previously different types of elves.
>Okay, I remember the lore stuff about it. So something like this could fuck up a Daedric Prince on its' home turf?
No, I was talking about why they're a problem for the mortals. But remember, Alduin isn't just going to walk up and try to eat the Aedra and Daedra in their own realms straight away. He'll chow down in Sovngarde first, the eat Mundus, etc. He grows larger ans more powerful the more he eats, so it adds up.
>See, here's the part that gives me conniptions. I thought the Aedra were supposed to be WEAKER from creating the world. WHY is Akatosh going through periodic cycles of being an utter badass by Daedric standards while simultaneously maintaining a power that keeps all the Princes outside of the world-while allegedly being dead and broken? I thought one of the other Aedra was literally eaten and shat out into a new Daedra, but this guy seems like he could wipe out most of the pantheon if he really wanted to.
Once again going to stick with the Morgoth thing.
Also you have to remember that reality is literally God's fever dream caught in a perpetual time loop.
Jumpers! What's the last time you had a job? And I mean an honest, 9-5 style job. Outside the Generic 9-5 Jump, of course.

Do we really need to have a BBEG in every campaign ? can there be a really good game without one ? Does the whole point of fun and adventure only revolve around a BBEG ?
lets not include natural disasters and nuclear wars.
>>52308669
>game
Ugh.
They're absolutely not necessary. It very much depends on the style and tone of the game.
They can be fun, having a consistent antagonist to work against gives a clear sense of continuity, connecting otherwise disparate adventures as parts of the larger efforts made against them, and fighting a single person who has a lot of time to develop their personality and character can make them a very satisfying antagonist.
It's just one style of story, but it's one that's relatively easy to execute in the D&D default setting and style, so a lot of GMs make use of it.

>God has a significant number of ordained priests.
>But only some of them are clerics.
Why? Who or what decides whether you're a cleric or not? And where do Favored Souls fit in?
Makes perfect sense to me.
You don't need to be a cleric to fulfill the role of a pastor- somebody that gets up in the pulpit and tells you to live your life well. That can be handled by someone who has been trained.
You don't need to be cleric to fulfill any of the scullery tasks that are necessary to upkeep a temple.
You don't need to be a cleric to distribute and administer the distribution of food, medicine and clothes to the poor.
Having a cleric on hand to bless, to heal the sick, treat disease, et cetera is relevant, but having everyone in the body politic of your church a cleric? wholly unnecessary and functionally a waste of a clerics abilities.
>And where do Favored Souls fit in?
The same places you'll find clerics: Not filling prosaic or mundane roles within the body politic of the theocracy.

anyone wanna talk about Burning Wheel yet??? Stories??? they're finally back in print!! how bout that!!
Somebody talk to me about how the Grief/Greed/Hate stat works. I realize BW is supposed to have a narrative, character driven bent, and obviously I can glean the gist of what the stats means for Elf/Dwarf/Orc characters, but give me a little bit on how it would work in a game. What will an Elf's Grief influence, what will a Dwarf's Greed bear on the player's experience, what effect does an Orc's Hate have.

I don't know, the combination of those things feels kind of lame to me.
Vilderavn manipulating Linnorm into reaping chaos and strife on the Thanelands, though? Aye, I can see it.

>It gives me a good chance to ask though, do you guys feel the kingdom building rules are the worst part of Kingmaker?
They are, but they're also one of the most charming aspects of the system. Nothing's quite as fun as building up districts you can walk around in when they're all filled out.
How does your group work around people missing sessions?
>>52305474
we play deathwatch so it's pretty easy
In my group people rarely miss sessions, and if they do it's only for that one session, only that person, and not multiple sessions in a row. So we have a buddy system. If you are absent then your buddy controls your character for you(and vice versa) during combat and partially during roleplaying (no non-character appropriate actions). Having an even number of group members makes this key.
>>52305474
Somebody else takes over their character. As a DM, I try not to target the absentee character too much, so it won't die when it's player is not even at the table.
Fantasy middle eastern/desert themed art thread
I'm starting a game and am hoarding anything that could potentially inspire future encounters and such.
Landscapes, monsters, characters, anything goes, so long as it fits the theme.
The world I made is pretty high fantasy too, so crazy magic shit is definitely a plus.
Lots of djinn, spirits and elementals running around the dunes and canyons.
>>52305340
Good luck, OP!
I'm interested in the breakdown of how people on /tg/ like to game. Talking 'bout TTRPGs here to be clear, no wargames or nuffin'. How often does your group(s) meet for a session? How long are your sessions? Do you have a group of pre-existing friends or did you meet through the group? Where do you game?
My group meets weekly for three and a half hours, online using Roll20. It's a bunch of school friends I know from back in the day.
hbu /tg/
>>52304783
>/tg/
>actually playing tabletop
>>52304783
>How often does your group(s) meet for a session?
Once a week.
>How long are your sessions?
However long it takes. Sometimes we feel done with the session after three hours, other times we go on for up to six hours. But the latter is fairly rare.
It mostly depends on if we reach a natural "end" or calm point in an adventure where it's easy to stop and pick it up again next week.
>Do you have a group of pre-existing friends or did you meet through the group?
I knew some, but not all of them.
>Where do you game?
In an apartment.
>>52304783
>How often does your group(s) meet for a session?
When they're not either failing to maintain a schedule or blowing up the group because someone decided to use the gaming table as part of their dating pool and it inevitably went wrong? Weekly.
>How long are your sessions?
4-8 hours usually.
>Do you have a group of pre-existing friends or did you meet through the group?
The former.
>Where do you game?
Whoever has the largest dining table tends to host.
That "so melee marines that spend more points on thunder hammers than bodies", edition.
