Shield walls and heavy crossbows and ballista/short range anti-infantry catapults, trebs for long range.
Bigger tougher and stronger means heavier stronger armor and large claymore-type weapons. These guys would be monsters in a straight out fight if they followed Roman militia tactics.

Your good.
CoC has barely changed since first edition.
6th is perfectly fine and you will be able to have fun and interesting games.
7th has it's own benefits but honestly Chaosium is good at not reinventing the wheel.
7th gives you a slightly more streamlined system and adds some optional rules to make things more personal.
IMO i'd recommend getting 7th because it's pretty dang good. Keep what you like and leave out what you don't rubs me in all the right ways.
But you will be perfect just as you are.

Unless the old lore is no longer true, the other races predate most sentient life. Tzeentch is as old as reality itself, Khorne is as old as the first animal killing another, and Nurgle is the first diseases.

I'm going to be GM'ing my first game ever, and we all decided that we would be playing an old western game. cowboys, banditos, etc...
a couple ideas have been suggested and we narrowed it down to Steel ball run or Train robbers. I'm leaning towards steel ball run.
but what i need is things for the players to actually do, minor encounters like running into a pack of hyenas when camping or something.
I'm using GURPS so it doesn't come pre prepped with any modules, does anyone have anything?

I use the Five Room Dungeon style of adventure design and make some notes during slow times at work or in class. For random encounters, I normally just steal existing ones and slap on a new coat of paint e.g. 1d4+1 orcs becomes 1d irate natives. Remember that GURPS's combat is way more lethal than most other systems', so don't have nothing but combat encounters planned; having just a list of actors works, and let the players' decision and the dice determine how things go (those irate natives aren't happy there are more random palefaces on their land, but it probably won't end bloody; there's even a chance they can trade for cool stuff or for info/a temporary guide).
Action 2's B.A.D. system lets you keep things fast-flowing and light. Are you using that? With that as a framework, you should be able to come up with stuff on the spot.

So, had a crazy idea and wanted to shoot it past the board to see how others felt about it.
Obviously this is something of an idea for a BBEB of a Lich. As I've understood in the rule books. A phylactery can vary from jars and boxes with written spells and organs to any small object like rings and whatnot. So my idea is to take four simple coins. A single coin of copper, silver, gold and platinum and make them all a phylactery. Then distribute them amongst the common people. These coins would constantly change hands, be split apart and in the end could travel the land in various random directions.
For added problems, coins could possibly end up in the Kings treasury, a dragon's hoard, a sunken pirate chest. Making finding them all nearly impossible save for the greatest of heroes.
Now I understand there's always a chance that these coins could fall into the hands of a cleric or Saladin who could sense the evil within these coins. But the chances of all 4 finding their way into holy hands seems nearly impossible.
So, what do you think? Playable or no?

Yeah, but an ordinary Jeweler might meld them down for components. You'd be better off using small Gems. Those would be traded and protected, possibly mounted in Jewelry, but couldn't be melted down and likely wouldn't be cut any smaller.
