So... are there any RPG systems that do Relationship Dynamics well?

Yes, Yes, I have shit taste and should kill myself. Ma3, as well as other Bed-Hopper Comedies are my guilty pleasure. This thread is either going to end in shit, or we'll all start discussing all the dating/romance series that fa/tg/uys are into or have read.

I'm sure some Tumblr child has either created a TTRPG with a polymemeory mechanic or is in the process of doing so at this very moment.
>>
It's Adam and Eve, not Adam and Eve and Lilith and Steve.
>>
>>52861857
None that I can think of, as polyamory is not usually a mechanic. That is the sort of thing better handled by roleplaying, not roleplaying. Most male players are not interested in larping a soap opera.

If you insist, Golden Sky Stories has an interesting relationship mechanic that is a mechanical representation of the closeness between two characters and does not have a limit on the amount of characters you can have it with.

The problem is that God is like petty spiteful GM. If you manage to outsmart him and make it though the punishment he will throw at you something even worse.
The oceans will begin to boil, clouds will cover the Sun, sharks, sea locusts, etc.

maybe the news of a witch hunt reaches the inn, where there's a higher level npc staying there. He comes along on the hunt and is able to whisk at least the PC away before a killing blow lands on him. He could be a mentor long past his prime and aids the PC in training until the PC can fight the witches. Bam, plot hook

have rumors abound of things the witch has done and previous failed attempts to stop her which give the PCs a clearer idea of what they're dealing with

Why don't RPG publishers eschew physical books altogether and rely purely on digital publishing? Laptops with PDFs and PDF searching are a lot more convenient than physical books anyway.

Having books be purely digital means that developers are less afraid to implement errata/patches to broken/unbalanced mechanics too. That's one thing video games have over tabletop: constant evolution of game fixes and balance patches. Only D&D 4e was really rigorous about errata, and even then not by that much.

1) part of the customer base are grognards who like to have their stuff as it used to be in "good old days"
2) part of the customer base are soccer moms, who think buying their crotchspawn a book is good because reading is good and more time at computer is the devil
3) arguably more difficult to pirate
4) printers lobby - those people don't want to go out of business any more than the other obsolete professions

I just like the feeling of holding an actual book. It's more comfortable for me to use.

Publishers could easily release changes to the books, it would just need to be a printable file that lists what they changed.

>I just like the feeling of holding an actual book. It's more comfortable for me to use.
I'm the same way. I find it almost impossible to read a book in PDF form, but if I have the same book physically in hand I'll lose myself in it for the entire afternoon.

I've not played any tabletop RPG in my life, the closest experience I've ever had is D&D videogames and roguelikes. What would be a good system for newcommer? I'm planning to look for games on roll20.

If you understand the concept, D&D5E is an alright jumping on point and then you can branch out to other systems once you figure out what you like, combat, story telling, traveling, etc.
>>
>>52859961
D&D is the call of duty of PnP games, and I mean that very negatively.

Keep that in mind.
>>
>>52859961
GURPS is a great system for a newcomer if you can find a GM.

D&D is really bad, but it's what everyone plays so you'll have the easiest time finding a game for that.

Most other systems are varying degrees of quality.

What kind of game do you want to play? Not system, but genre. Do you want to play a high fantasy, cinematic game? Cyberpunk? Modern mystery? Sci-fi explorers?

So was it wrong to not make paladins alignment dependant or have people had more fun and interesting paladins with the looser rules?
>>
>>52858712
Having more clearly defined Oaths rather than the vague as fuck alignment system was a great move.
>>
>>52858712
I don't think we ever used alignment in any of our games since AD&D. As far as I'm concerned, half my players clearly play evil characters that manage to do good more often than not.
Alingment is a limitation that adds nothing.

I dont think this counts but anyway.
>Been playing shadowrun 5th for a year.
>Quite interested to run a few games .
>Forever GM has GF in town and states that he will not run game as usual because of this and asks if anyone else wants to run game that night.
>Time to shine and take the spot.
>I had a 3-4 scenario long campaing under works and the first few were ready.
>Except I had to do math and statting for the combat encounter dudes.
>My favorite thing in SR is summoning and spirits so the "boss" for the night would be a big posessed troll.
>In fact all the cannon fodder dudes were posessed too.
>The game goes pretty well.
>Scenario about cult kidnapping a rich kid and trying to get him posessed by their masters.
>Shit happens, players are players and trying to herd them without railroading was quite fun.
>Now our usual GM had a edgyish Major from GitS character (cool dude, just never understood why)
>His GF had a mage with loads of touch range spells.
>Rest were "I beat face with fist" troll adept and a "a chair is a legit throwing weapon" orc adept.
>Eventually they get into the final fight for the night.
>Now I had failed statting my troll from reading the rules for posession wrong basically giving him way too many stats.
>And posession would make him already hard to kill.
>So I had planned the spirit inside the troll would follow a simple logic (I think I used guardian spirits)
>"If anything hurts me, I will attack the last thing that hurt me"
>So beefed up troll will CHARGE anything that hits him with a combat knife.
>players actually shoot most of the time so charging was not that bad and troll did few good hits.
>Then it happened
>For obvious reasons usual GM and his GF in character were standing quite close
>Troll charges GM
>Major dodges
>Touch mage attacks the troll and back off
>Troll charged her and basically kills her but no because fate points.
>Silent table until next combat they snipe the troll ded.
Last game I ran.
>>
If the GM makes us roll for stats, I fudge/reroll/ tweak the stat after the fact until I have at least an 18 in something.

this actually sounds kinda fun anon. i would not be mad at this character death. games arent fun without a little risk and you presented a way for them to avoid the danger of the fight and still be effective.

Why

Why is the power of Dark and Destruction able to supply its worshipers and minions with cool supernatural powers, while the power of Light and Creation isn't?

I need possible explanations for this for my setting. I don't want it to be that L&C doesn't actually exist, just that it doesn't show itself in a blatant manner like D&D.

The explanation I originally considered was that all of L&C's power goes into actually creating new life. Does that explanation hold up?

Evil shit is much more forthcoming with power and also much more demanding of its followers. That's the deal, generally.

A "good" faith might ask you to live a good life, turn the other cheek, love your neighbor, and all that good stuff. Maybe sacrifice a goat here or there for those more bohemian faiths, attend a festival, whatever. Dragon slaying and villain-foiling are generally reserved for paladins and shit, and you'll note that they *do* get magic buffs.

For an evil cult, though? Man, the price of entry might well be selling your soul, or procuring a sacrifice, or murdering someone. A good god is likely to give you some core tenants and things to live your life by. An evil god might very well have an earthly agent (in the form of a demon, spirit, whatever) literally giving you instructions. Being a devotee of a good faith is a lifestyle choice. Being a devotee of an evil faith is a job, and--often--a difficult, deadly one. And so you get paid.

If you want to get more into it, the forces of "evil" can probably afford to be handing out all that mojo because they're so busily and actively generating it. Old man living in the clouds and asking people to live moral lives might be a little stingier with his mojo, but the god who has his followers suck up souls for him and throw bodies into pits in eldritch rituals can probably afford to be a little bit more spendthrift.
