Why is late middle ages technology the most popular for fantasy settings? Why don't we see more early middle ages, like when Charlemagne ruled?
The fantasy genre has its roots in medieval romances that were frequently set in the distant past but kitted out their heroes with the equipment of what were then modern warriors because it's what the intended audience would be familiar with.
I blame renaissance faires.
But Late Antiquity is my fantasy shit of choice, personally, though I can absolutely respect your style, OP.
actually it probably has more to do with liberties taken by victorian dudes like walter scott and the pre-raphaelits. just put all the peers of charlemagne in gothic plate, it'll look good on the page and they weren't real so it can't be innacurate.

What, if any, attrition-based decks have you run? I.e., things that slowly grind out a victory.
Fuck Sheldon.
>>52884276
Solitary Confinement is a strong card but I don't like the idea of discarding a card before I find out it's true value because my draw for turn could change everything.
My playgroup(s) also have the reasoning if I am trying so hard to protect myself then I must have something scary planned.

More recently I have built pic related as stax, it is in the first version and I have yet to play it in my lgs league. (Playing it this week).
I am hoping it provides some insight for changes.

How much attention do you like?
>>52884103
None, and it's amusing to see women act like children and sociopaths just to get attention.
Posting PDFs of Marvel's WIPs from a few threads back.
Are there any RPGs that handle politicking well?
I'm going to go GURPS for 500 bob
>>52883956
I wanna say stuff in the LARPG genre does it well. World Of Darkness usually bases its settings around it, and I could easily see Fiasco or Primetime Adventures do something with it.
>>52883983
Ahh, but is there in fact a gurps book about politics? or negotiations? bargaining? swindling?
What do verbal spell components sound like?
Is there a common tone in the speech among spells of the same school?
Is there a major difference between the verbal components of a 5th level spell and a 1st level spell assuming they both take the same time to cast?
Mel-lon.
>>52883296
In my setting the verbal components are ultimately unimportant and just used as a mental focus- but there are some spells (mostly sound or language based) that demand speech just based on the nature of the spell. Otherwise, most verbal components used by traditionally trained mages are spoken in the Not-Latin of the setting, just because that was the tongue of the society where most ancient magic was practiced, and it also happens to be the language used for scientific and other academic terms. Other common ones are the Fey language, the not-Arabic language, or the not-Norse language, depending on the region.

Why do you lose experience after dying and then reincarnating?
Shouldn't you gain experience after dying and reincarnating, isn't dying the biggest learning experience?
PC's don't learn from their mistakes.
Experience, as well as the gaining and loss thereof, is a purely mechanical element. It does not exist in setting, and is purely an abstraction to facilitate smooth gameplay.
Besides, if characters got XP for dying they'd be throwing themselves off cliffs willy nilly.

Sup /tg/,
I got a friend who always plays grey knights. Sometimes with Inquisition or Imperial Guards, but now also custodian guards. In 10 games I maybe win one if he has really bad dice rolls - but in the end I'll lose most of the time. When he wins, he'll also mock me at least till the next game and also during our matches. How can I continue like this? I like the game but I don't like to lose all the time. I'm not asking for a list to beat his, since I got shit luck with every die I touch but I want to know how I can overcome this feeling of inferiority and be a good player.

What army do you play?

Ask him to lay off? I understand that that can be easier said than done when emotions are running high, but if you can get through to hm that solves all your problems. Well, except for the actual losing, but what do you want from me? I'm not Merlin.
Just say that it's bad enough getting your ass handed to you without him constantly rubbing it in. Even if it's meant as a good-natured ribbing, it gets frustrating after a while and you're starting to lose interest in playing as a result.
As far as the losing thing goes; maybe you could ask him to give you a hand? Ask him how you could improve your strategy. Maybe play some friendly games with him where he points out what he'd do in your situation. Or if things primarily come down to army building, maybe he could give you a hand with that.
About a year ago, I suggested we create a race that was based on the Anons of 4chan and the boards that they inhabit.

Post drawn non-fantasy/heavy sci-fi characters
>when I'm the master, i set up things for people to roleplay around camps
>they decide to pack their stuff and sleep, fast-forwarding to the next day
>when i'm the player, I get ready to roleplay when we camp
>either get drowned by other players into sleeping, or get fast-forwarded by the gm
i have a mighty need for comfy late-night camping roleplay /tg/
do you have any stories to share with me?
In the current group, I/party spend most campfires doing the following:
-discussing events of session/ campaign
-being fed delicious rat stew by the half-ork paladin nobody wants to tell isn't a great cook
-begging the cleric to let me use the dangerous magical artefacts we decided not to use just because like 2 people died, stupid good party
-modifying my musket
Campfires are good opportunities for small side projects the player can do over multiple sessions, RP conversations and/or a bit of humour if your game is usually a bit serious
>>52879573
Party trust in my group has dwindled to the point my wizard sleeps alone in a rope trick every night without fail and the other party members safeguard themselves alone too.
I miss narrating what we ate and how we unwound.
>>52879735
Ok Anon, what did your character do?
>>52879338
Anyone got that webm from Final Fantasy 7 of the entire party meeting Rufus on top of the Shinra building? Normally gets posted with a title like "skipping session zero", ends with Rufus saying "what a crew". I found myself missing it last session I played, when it became clear that none of our PCs fit together.

It seems like more and more players are concerned with doing the maximum damage possible and making min/maxed builds rather than creating interesting characters with which to explore the world that they inhabit.
I think that this has been caused by video games and the popularization of "crit success means anything goes" memes. How do we counter this toxic thought process? Is it too late to save the hobby /tg/?
>>52879198
We keep encouraging it until casuals get fed up and walk away.
>>52879231
How do you encourage it at your table? When I was DMing I would sometimes provide special bonuses for really getting into character.

>It seems like more and more players are concerned with doing the maximum damage possible and making min/maxed builds rather than creating interesting characters with which to explore the world that they inhabit
I'm curious as to how you're going about charting and tracking this trend
what's your metric, your sample size, the duration of your study and your control?
Hello /tg/
You meet an average person who knows about rpgs as much as the average person.
You have 2 minutes to convince him/her to join your rpg table. What's your pitch?
>system not specified
>game genre may/may not be important>new op pic since frogs make you some kind of social pariah and i just want some advice
>>52879156
Participation is Fun. Fun is Mandatory. Not having fun means you're unhappy. Unhappiness is treason. Treason is punishable by termination. See you on Sunday citizen.
>>52879349
Did you get many new recruits for your table with that?
>implying you don't live in Belarus, Best Korea or some other distopian country
>Also implying people don't know about Paranoia, which I suppose you play.
>>52879607
The people it doesn't get can't be convinced to play it no matter how long I try, and that line is enough to get potential candidates curious to ask more. I've got a consistent group of about 5 players with others dropping in and out as life permits.
And people really don't know about Paranoia, despite it being so old. Even a lot of grogs don't know anything more than the name and the meme.
