I play Yahini / Krenko and it's nice not having to worry about colors or what lands your fetching, but only really having on game plan can get kinda boring. I don't play it often.

Funny that you think one color=one thing. I mean, it does sometimes, but it sure doesn't have to. More that lots of commanders only do one thing. There's lots of multicolor commanders who only do one thing, but you aren't shitposting about them, are you?

Anyway, Gisa and Kamhal are fine. Gisa does her thing of zombies, though the deck can go wide or go tall and win with damage, drain, or mill (usually mill if I'm honest). Kamhal is less tuned and tweaked and basically only wins with overrunning a whole bunch with some tokens, though there's a few just huge dudes in the deck for laughs, so it occasionally sticks a Darksteel Colossus and beats someone to death with it. I'm playing with using Nemata as the general instead, unsure though.

Well, asked in the old thread just after the new thread was made. But I'll ask here too.

What is /tg/'s opinion(s) on using Collector's Edition cards?

A pointless question, because different games do it for different reasons.

With specific regards to Dungeons & Dragons, ranged weapons are based on Dexterity and melee weapons on Strength, generally, for two reasons:

1) Dexterity represents hand/eye coordination and reflexes (not speed, Dexterity has never granted additional attacks or movement speed that I'm aware of), and therefore makes more sense than Intelligence - which is a measure of problem-solving and raw knowledge - or Wisdom - which is a measure of passive awareness, common sense, and willpower. There is some overlap; I do believe that 3rd Edition had at least one class feature in some class that allowed you to use Wisdom for ranged attacks rather than Strength. However, this leads us into the second reason why D&D does this:

2) D&D is not a Real Life Simulator. It's trying to be a balanced game. Now, whether or not it currently, or ever, has succeeded, is up to debate. However, the intent behind the Strength/Dexterity split is to make it so that characters with high Dexterity but low Strength can still contribute meaningfully to combat, if a person wants to build such a character. This is by far the more important of the two reasons.

Alright lads, what do you think the next mercenary sniper is going to be? I'm thinking we're getting at least one every other month.

Next might be something pretty different. A brooding lone wolf who strikes it out on their own and not affiliated with 'the man' of any major faction. Maybe BS 13? Maybe excessive close combat nobody wants? They probably wear a cloak too.

Does anyone have any experience in the RPG yet? A friend is starting a game and I'm worrying about a skill/talent combo my character has.

Education is a skill in the game, reflecting both academic learning and general knowledge. I thought it seemed cool, focused on it in chargen, and then looked at the Talents available for it, various special abilities tied to each skill. One of them, Maya Wired, lets your Geist assist you on Education tests for recalling/gathering information. I thought it was a cool notion, someone so used to working with their AI partner that it was as natural as breathing, so I built the characters Geist to support it.

Fast forward to the first session, characters are introduced, a mission is set out... I make an Education roll. And get seven successes. In a system where the highest, nigh on impossible difficulty is 5.

Mechanically, my character has 2d20 vs TN 17 for Education, rolling an extra d20 if either of those succeed, and their Geist can always assist, rolling 2d20 vs TN with another dice if either of those succeed. They also score double success on a 2 or lower, while their Geist gets it on a 1.

I thought the combo looked neat but after seeing how explosively potent it seems I've been worrying about it. While Education doesn't do much by itself, acting as an information gatherer and Momentum generator, it still seems kinda crazy to be able to bust out that many dice essentially at will.
