A friend of mine did a good kobold dragon slayer, he was convinced that if he killed dragons and ate their hearts, he'd ascend to the next stage of his dragonhood or some shit

All dragons?

He could just align to Tiamat or Bahamut and kill one of the dragon sets while leaving the other alone.

Long story short, I fucked up my first time GMing, and I want to get it right next time. With that in mind, none of my players browse /tg/ (or 4chan in general, it's "that scary site where all the meanest people go" to them) and I'm going to get some good ideas even if I have to talk to myself the whole thread until it happens.

The system is the Legend of Zelda RPG that some folks on here made a while ago. It's a neat system that tries its hardest to emulate what the Legend of Zelda games feel like, and it has a lot of charm to it, though the development has screeched to a halt and it's still extremely rough around the edges. I'd like to get in contact with the creators to lend a hand, but that's for another time. While knowing the rules for the Legend of Zelda RPG could help, it's not at all required. Most of this will probably be asking for feedback on the stuff I've already written, but it'd be hella appreciated if anyone wants to suggest ideas.

Without further ado, I'm going to start posting, and you jump in when you feel like it.

I grilled my prospective players and got some info on what they're expecting and what they generally want, and they want to be Big Damn Heroes of Prophesy in Hyrule. That works for me; the first challenge, then, will be making an overarching threat in the world that will drive the players to find/complete dungeons and collect items in the process, which is the LoZ RPG equivalent of leveling up. A big problem with the campaigns in our group is that the big overarching threat is too...well, threatening. The characters usually rush towards the end-goal of the campaign and ignore 'side-quests' or other lower-priority goals because who has time to help find a priest's missing book when the fate of the world is at stake?

We admitted it as a problem, and I tried to alleviate it with my first/last campaign, and I ended up with the opposite problem: with no threat or goal to move towards, the players were eternally indecisive and had trouble driving themselves to do anything. I should probably try to find a middle-ground, something that's an obvious threat, but not an urgent one.

For anyone familiar with the Legend of Zelda, there's usually an actual BBEG (Ganon, Ganondorf, Zant, whatever that nightmare in Link's Awakening was, etc.) that resides in an untouchable castle, and has usually already completed their goal, or at least the first part of their goal. The land is already dead, the princess is already captured, the kingdom is already ruled, whatever. The hero(es) needs to find the three/seven/eleven McGuffins to defeat the monster, but generally there isn't a strict time-limit on that because the world is conveniently pre-fucked before the adventure starts (or at least shortly after the tutorial), which leaves un-fucking the world to the hero(es) instead of preventing the potential fuckiness like it usually goes in campaigns.

I've never run a game for children.
Kudos to you for your patience while encouraging adolescents to grow into the hobby!

Seriously though, I do have some thoughts regarding your "middle-ground".

As much as I'm a fan of the Zelda timeline, crazy as it is, it's fairly self-contained and doesn't give a lot of opportunities for a party of adventurers to be Big Damn Heroes of Prophesy. So either the definition of 'Big Damn Heroes' will have to be shrunken down in scope to not actually affect the state of Hyrule in the future (maybe taking place during the Imprisoning War where hyrulian knights fought to close the gate to Ganon's Dark World), or it will take place at the end of the timeline, which is probably preferable.

So, why would a band of Big Damn Heroes be needed instead of the Hero of Man/Time/Wind/Courage swooping in to kick evil in the hindquarters like the story usually goes? Well, Ganon and Link have this weird curse thing going on (due to Demise being a spiteful bastard in Skyward Sword) that makes them always reincarnate to do battle with each other for the rest of time, so Link is only reincarnated when Ganon/Ganondorf is alive or is about to be. That leaves room for an adventure to take place canonically without Link being part of it, but this is the Legend of Zelda, so it would be a shame not to include the big man himself somehow.

So, theoretically, what if someone found a way to break that cycle? Or at least stop Link from reincarnating-- his Spirit of Courage (the thing that makes Link, well, Link, as mentioned in Twilight Princess) is a singular presence. If someone found a way to stop it from reincarnating into a body, all they'd need to do is wait for Big G's inevitable return to being the King of Darkness, and there'd be no tunic-wearing fairy boy around to kick his ass. Maybe the characters could be introduced during this time, hundreds of years after the Spirit of Courage has been locked down but before the Spirit of Power reincarnates proper, and their 'prophesy' is to free the Spirit of Courage so Link can go toe-to-toe with Ganon when he needs to?

So I recently found this podcast, and I was really enjoying it for a long while. I felt like they had good synergy, they were focused on making things fun, and the characters were funny. Sure, they broke a lot of rules, like, constantly and all the time, but it worked for the format.

But the DM went WAY too tryhard on the overall story. It's like watching the 5th season of a super popular TV show, trying to tie together meaningless details from the start with some over arching thread, but it's all so after-the-fact in its justification, and takes so many steps to add up, and so many perfect details to make sense. And taking gag characters and making them absolutely crucial to this massive steel beams did 9-11 conspiracy story is always dumb as fuck. I'm really really disappointed, overall. I tried to listen to the first part of The Stolen Century, and I just turned it off 10 minutes in.

"lelebin leddit shit" put aside, what did you folks think of it? When do you think things were past the point of no return on quality, and what could have been done differently to close out the campaign without everything jumping the shark? Or do any of you honestly think how it went is good overall? I'm curious.

I'm actually finishing up Suffering Game as I type this.

I dunno, I think a lot of Griffin's stuff can be railroad-y, and he can definitely get a little too into his own story, but I honestly think the insistence on reusing gag characters is probably because they were so popular. I honestly don't mind the story because even if it is a bit hokey and contrived, I am just a sucker for someone giving a genuine fuck about the game, and it's pretty obvious even if he isn't great at it he loves making stories. I'm actually excited for him to be a player because I think he'll be a lot better at playing in someone else's story. That, and the players constantly keep his melodrama in check and I love that.
>>
>>52942105
It's ok. Better than Critical Role or Godsfall, though that's not saying much.

Personally, I prefer Roll to Hit, which ultimately feels more natural as a campaign.

Dungeon Master's Block is my personal favorite when it comes to tabletop related podcasts though. Genuinely good advice on there, interesting segments, and they've got good voices, good audio, and good commentary, plus interviews with people like Keith Baker. Their MTG segments do a better job than Planeshift, and their League of Legends Lore episodes are top notch, even if you're not into it.

See, no, you're going to have a very different opinion very soon. Finish up, I liked Suffering Game, get to episode 60, then come back and tell me what you think. Maybe even listen to The The Adventure Zone Zone before 60.

I'm just getting into the lore of the 40k Universe, and I'm already confused. Just how is Khaine different from Khorne. Aside from the spelling and Khaine being an Eldar god, I don't see any major differences. Why worship one over the other? What's the difference between their ideologies? These are things I would like to know.

1d4chan Article: https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Argo_Brigade

Last thread, some fa/tg/uys wrote up an Imperial Guard regiment one word at a time and it ended up not being total shit: the Argo Brigade, a counterinsurgency regiment that loves to melt and burn the shit out of human insurgents and crucify the survivors upside down and sideways. An anon with actual counterinsurgency experience came in and told us how a real COIN unit gets shit done.

1d4chan page is created and last time we had some excellent discussion, writefaggotry, and drawfaggotry. One anon has ordered parts for a tabletop Argo Brigade killteam and we expect updates out of him.

Let's continue developing the galaxy's most horrifically effective insurgency suppressors.

So we've talked storage before, but I can't remember if there's ever been a discussion on organization. Once you've got those boring samey kallax shelves how do you have your games on them? Order of purchase, alphabetical, genre; do you just stuff them in together like Tetris fitting in as much as you can wherever? What about all the other things that go hand in hand with gaming (dice, stuff to write on, paint/glue, playmats, spare bits) do you have those stuffed away in a drawer somewhere, or with your games? Do you have a display case for the really cool stuff or does it all just stay boxed up 24/7?

Major supernatural entity:

Minor powers:
breath without air
superhuman PS

Major powers:
zombie flesh

Special:
if immobilized or separated into parts, fate, luck, and dumb NPCs always bring his parts back together or free him, or wake him up.

it really depends on the group i'm using him for.
if its the supernatural group, with a magic weapon user (like the black knight), a supernatural powerhouse (think like shazam with spells) a demon hunter (like the winchester brothers mixed with some magic and with 50+ years of experience), and an arcanist (a man who knows EVERYTHING supernatural and magical without any of his own magic) he's just another badguy for them to put away.

if i do it with my current group, a small child who animates objects and enlarges them with SCIENCE goggles, a hobo with the power to control and manipulate garbage, a fledging wizard with a magic staff that grants him spells, and a man who can control technology with a touch and a thought, he's still kinda gonna get put down hard.

Jason is only a good enemy to people who are totally mundane. teenagers and camp counselors. when faced off against characters who are in some way superhuman or supernatural in their own way, especially 3.pf characters, he's more or less a very durable, strong, and relentless zombie who realistically poses little threat outside of catching PCs unaware. sure you cant kill him, but you can make it EXTRAORDINARILY difficult for him to harm anyone or follow them. sure, he has a plot armor thats basically "nuh uhh! i have an everything proof shield" because he will always find a way to continue, but think about it, a group of 6th level characters would see him as an annoying and reoccurring bad guy more than anything.

Nice post.

I'm not sure what system you're using for the stats as I'm more of a d&d type (let the hate begin)

Str: 18-24 (depending on his need)
Dex: 7 (he's not quick or agile really)
Con: Either 30, or 0 (is he undead)
Int: 4
Wis: 4
Cha: 4

HP: 1001
AC 14
Attack: +28 with a 50% chance to dismember or remove a head (all weapon types)
Grapple +30 don't grapple him.......ever
Medium supernatural creature

Feats: weapon mastery (Jason can kill with any weapon)
Unarmed skill (Jason can kill with a punch)
Sense fornication: Jason can sense when people are fucking, and act with a +10 surprise bonus and a 80% chance to insta kill
Teleport w/o error: Jason can always teleport to right behind you, or just around the corner
See the unseen: Hiding is useless, as Jason will see someone trying to hide, no matter their hide check
Regenerate: If his body is destroyed, jason will reform within 10 years (depending on how well horror flicks are doing at the time)
Instill fear: Seeing jason kill, or raise a weapon, will force a fear/moral check and cause the viewer to flee at maximum speed away from jason
Break tech: Being within 100 yards of Jason, will cause phones to be static filled, and auto's to fail to start, chainsaws will fail to start as well
Immunity to projectiles: Shooting jason has no effect
Immunity to slashing weapons
Partial immunity to blunt weapons
Slow: Jason can not run, or take double actions
Immunity to elemental damage 50%
