>France is West of Spain
>The Crescent Empire is entirely desert despite being at the same latitude as the most green parts of "Europe"
>The Cathay 'steppes' are full of hills

Still a setting I'd play though.
>>
>>52963982
>NotYurop divided into west and east
>West is mostly generic fantasy that isnt touched upon, it only exists for players to come from a feeling of familiarity
>East is Morrowind level weirdness mixed with Ottoman empire and whatnot.
>Setting is primarily a central Empire Buffer State thats a mixture of the Byzantine Empire and Austria Hungary

The setting motsly works by giving the players something to associate themselves with in the west and the east never beeing fully explained and just beeing weird as shit, bleeding into the area the campaign is set in.

Climate and enviroment is completley unrelated to europe tho, its got temperate prats, freezing glacies aswell as deserts and huge volcanic areas, generaly the further you go east the more terrifying and inhospitable it gets.

Civilization is mostly there in the cities, where it flourishes and has many trappings of modernity.
Smaller settlements are far lower in tech and ofthen dont have a lot of contact to the larger cities.
Wilderness is incredibly dangerous and populated by monsters from the east.
Country riddled with ruins of past civilizations that attempted to tame this rugged borderland.

Its great for adventuring alright.

I'm making a space opera setting. One of the alien races were a bunch of medieval primitives who got invaded and uplifted by accident by another group of aliens. They now have their own empire. My question is this: what kind of cultural oddities would a kingdom have when it was forced to leap forward 1500 years in technology in the span of about 50 years, assuming it could survive the strain? I figure things like old useless ceremonial weapons that were once cutting edge, that kind of stuff.

Meiji restauration Japan is a precedent, albeit not as strong.
Japan is weird in that they managed to successfully merge a lot of advantages the western powers gave them with their own values. They looked at european countries and said "ok this worked, this didn't work, we need to do it like that".
They actively learned from others' mistakes in order to reduce the gap, while conserving a lot of their own identity and customs.
An other example would the Krogans in Mass Effect, who are like Japan in that they were uplifted by other powers, but to ultimately try to fuck everyone other (kinda like Showa Japan), and to be taken down by the more ancient powers.
In both cases, as you said, there are remnants of "useless" things like ceremonial objects, rituals, and an importance given to spirituality we have lost in western societies
>>
>>52962824
I wouldd suggest looking at Klingon culture from Star Trek, as that's effectively what they are.

L5R

It's pseudo-Japan the way fantasy usually does pseudo-Europe, but it'll do
>>
>>52963435
OP, don't do this.
L5R is so wrong it actually ends up countering real life norms.
Choose an era, first off, and go from there. Early Sengoku is not late Sengoku, and early Edo in little way resembles later Edo/Meiji.
Toshiro Mifune movies often take place during Sengoku or early Edo, and feature a lot of society showcases.

Hey guys,

I'm trying to make a new simple boardgame revolving around a dirty businessman making it big. Basically a guy like Jordan Belfort or, ehm, Trump. You start off by inheriting a lot of money, then buying stuff like waste disposal companies, and upgrade your business with illegal immigrant workers, tax evasion, breaking the sydicates. Eventually you get shares of water supply systems, healthcare, social security system and central bank. The whole time you are trying to evade police.

Since you see where this is going, I wonder what sort of other "dirty" practices I could also include in this game?

thanks

How many players?
Do/can different players go in to different businesses?

You could leak info about another players dirty business dealings.
Slip a reporter some money to write a hit piece about another player, or write a nice puff piece about how your new development helps the community.
Don't forget to make contributions to politicians.
>>
>>52962605
OP Here.

Each player buys one business and can later re-sell it to others if he feels like.

>You could leak info about another players dirty business dealings.

>Slip a reporter some money to write a hit piece about another player, or write a nice puff piece about how your new development helps the community.
>Don't forget to make contributions to politicians.

These are exact ideas I am looking for.
>>
>release a "green" or "healthy" version of a product, that is exactly the same at a marked up price
>the Chinese investors are coming to inspect the construction site! hire some laborers to dig random potholes while you supervise in a hi vis vest, roll to bluff
>your future son in law is plotting with the competition, discreetly pay for a cocaine and escort fueled party, leak the pictures

is that the kind of thing you want?

If society was reborn after a cataclysm on a terraformed moon (Similar gravity, day/night cycles, per-industrial society) what differences in tech would they experience?

>>
FUCK YOU THIS IS MY SETTING FUCK YOU STOP READING MY FUCKING MIND FUCK YOU
>>
>similar gravity, day-night cycles

I'm more interested in how they managed to increase the moon's mass sixfold and increase its rotation 27-fold. Where'd that energy come from?
>>
>>52962429
And how have they not destroyed civilization on Earth doing it. Or have they?

If they managed to increase the moons mass so drastically maybe they were also capable of moving it further away from Earth to prevent unholy tides on both worlds. This would mean that Earth and Luna can no longer even be considered planet and moon. Earth and Luna are now twin binary planets.

So you have a post-cataclysm where pre-cataclysm humanity was pretty fucking god-like. Assuming Luna and Earth are both knocked down to pre-industrial levels by whatever fucked the shit up it becomes an unknowing arms race to see who could build up first. Who ever regains practical space flight first, or at least makes interplanetary missiles first, dictates the way shit is going to go.

You've just helped a rebellion movement gain control of their kingdom from the tyrant king. Said tyrant king is captured and awaiting execution the next day. However, the tyrant king requests your presence to his cell to tell you something.

He reveals that you were his younger long lost bastard half-sibling, who was 'disposed of' by the last king to prevent infuriating the queen of the time.

Your tyrant brother of a half-brother, lamented by guilt, fear, and regret, as he had played with you and loved you when you were an infant, became the tyrant he is now. But now, having met you again, he is genuinely happy and regrets nothing.

He only has one request of you: for you to be the one who executes him.

What would your character do?

I'm making a setting where ghost PCs are a thing. These ghosts can turn intangible and pass through objects. Debating saying there's a material they can't pass through.

Whats a suitably thematic material? "Sacred/holy things" isn't a good answer for the setting.

One of their special abilities could be getting the peasants and slaves in the immediate vicinity to revolt and help you out as allies.

You'd probably be fighting against the nobility far more than you'd be fighting under them.
>>
>>52959344
I would think that the point of a paladin of freedom is to fight for those who aren't able to fight for themselves, not to use them as literal meatshields.
>>
>>52959384
I think he's talking about a "peasant uprising" vibe. Not a "minion master" vibe.
