apparently Wizards of the coast cooperated with a japanese company to produce a manga/instructional booklet explaining the rules of mtg in the form of a Manga. this was unexpected even for an mtg midfag like myself. here is the link to the translated version i found http://imgur.com/a/P6wKX . otherwise discuss general EDH stuff in this thread.

What is the best strategy boardgame and why is it Stratego?

A medieval-level alien civilization gets contacted by interstellar traders and ultimately ends up with the super advanced technology of the galaxy that it doesn't really deserve and only barely understands. Assuming this doesn't trigger a massive civil war and destroy its civilization, what kinds of things would it most easily adapt to, and what kinds of things would it resist changing? I imagine anything involving weapons and armor would be quickly taken since killing your rivals is always useful, but what else?

If WotC came to you with a plan to make a "babby's first MtG" box that would run about 40-60 USD and contained enough cards to make an easy to pilot but not necessarily strong deck of each color, what would you put in it? The goal would be for Jim Bob and his two or three friends who have never played MtG to buy it, crack the box open, and play around with the pre-packaged decks inside while having enough cards left over for them to try changing the decklists a bit once they understand the rules. Something like Netrunner or the upcoming L5R remake.

The contents don't have to be Standard-legal but should at least be somewhat modern cards and relatively straightforward so that a new player could glance at the text and pretty much immediately see what the card is used for.

If I want my PCs to be DtB contractors, what system should I run? Means basically modern-setting magic, but a focused sort (They have a few powers that share a theme.), and after they do it, they must perform a remuneration before they can use it again. (I can houserule this.)

Secondary requirement: It lets normals fight (with guns and whatnot) without getting obliterated as soon as the fight begins.

So wait a second... Cypher just "escapes" from the Golden Palace?

The Golden Palace on Terra, the most heavily fortified position in the galaxy, protected by the Custodes and just about every other possible kind of force. The Custodes who regularly performed death-defying feats just to attempt to break in, like putting themselves in a near death coma and hiding inside a cargo crate to try to sneak past all its defences to test them... and Cypher just "escapes". The Palace of the Emperor of Mankind, the most important figurehead in the Imperium, and a deadly dangerous heretic traitor (as far as they're concerned) escapes within a few miles of him and is on the loose. Cypher just casually strolls out of what is effectively the most secure prison in the Imperium. Probably a few hundred thousand psykers who could psychically locate him in the surrounding area. Not to mention he's not exactly a difficult person to find, considering he's wearing power armour, which isnt exactly "quiet", that's a different colour from every other suit of power armour on Terra. Probably the most densely populated place in the galaxy, billions of people you know, probably quite hard to slip past billions of potential witnesses. Seeing as he is, you know, a potential chaos fiend heretic, you think they'd keep an eye on him. And people tend to notice when a fucking Space Marine walks past.

Is this just bad writing or also bad people doing the bad writing?

alright, one of my players is a pain in the butt, hes trying take a disadvantage (copy pasted below) and they keep picking stupid ones, like "my secret is im a famous bard" and every one i suggest to them they say no to.

maybe you guys have better luck with tragic dark secrets,

DIRTY LITTLE SECRET
The character hides a dark and horrible secret, something that
would mean his ruin and the fall of those who matter most to him
if it came out. It is possible that he’s guilty of an appalling crime, or
that as a small child he performed terrible rituals that caused the
death of thousands of people, triggering a curse over him if the cultists
discovered he was alive.
Effects: The player and the Game Master must determine,
together, the nature of the secret and the consequences that arise
from it.
