Anon, tell me about your solo game. 1 dm, 1 player. And explain to us why it was awesome.

I'll start then.

We were stuck in Iowa, waiting on material to arrive for our job. So we were stuck in Iowa for 3 weeks, in little town, with NOTHING to do. Literally 1 mom and pop cafe and a gas station and a motel. So..........we played

>We rolled to see who would DM. I won, and chose player
>I had 1 18, I tossed it into INT and made a mage
>Knowing I'd be limited on actions per round with only 1 pc.......I assumed a cowardly mage would work best
>DM said "Why not specialize"
>I picked Necromancy (because I'd never done that), and gave up Evo and Enchantment
>Game starts, I'm riding a wagon towards a city, after just finishing up my apprentice training
>Our wagon encounters another wagon, with a dead horse and a couple dead bodies
>Orcs said the one survivor
>They said the orcs had left, but that a young boy had ran off in the opposite direction, and his parents had been killed
>Our wagon says "We'll send help"......I (being the mighty hero I am), said "You all go on, I'll find the boy"
>Wandering around the woods for a bit, I find a piece of cloth and find a trail...the boy is near a hole in the ground, and crying....a couple wolves are closing in on him
>I win init, and KO a wolf (and the boy) with a colorspray
>Second wolf runs off a bit, and circles....I plug it with a xbow and it ran off
>I carry the boy to the nearest "village", and they give me FREE room and board for a couple days to rest up
>Our games are normally sorta low-powered and not wealthy. So fee room and board is a good thing
>The next day, my arsenal of mighty spells restored, I explore the town a bit.
>the picture of a 1 horse town
>It sits on the lakes edge, and is mainly a farming area
>The mayor says he'd like to me stay in town, because having someone with my skills would be very helpful (magic isn't common really in our settings)
> I should also mention that I picked Herbalist and anatomy and healing and medical knowledge as my skills/profession.
cont
>>
>>53008594

>I tell the mayor/elder that I'm heading to the capital city, to make my way in the world, and wouldn't be staying
>He said "Oh, you know medicine? Can you help a few people before you go?" I agree to
>The next day, I use the local town square area to begin seeing patients........broken bones, infections, rashes, bad diet issues, and other conditions
>I herb check poultices, send people after plants, and make splints all fucking day
>Mayor says there's an empty house in town that I could have, but sadly it sits too close to the small graveyard, so i wouldn't want it
>I check it out.....it's a 1 story with a large front room and a small bedroom, and a huge basement with a tunnel that leads to the cemetery.......AND a furnace for burning bodies in the basement
>It seems this town used to be bigger, but travel has slowed through it, and several wealthy people moved away
>(My dm didn't railroad that hard, but it was clear at this point, he didn't want me to go to the capital city that he didn't have prepared, and wanted me to stay here)
>I graciously accepted the mayors offer, and he agreed that the town (limited funds and all), would pay for the deed to the property the next time the taxman/kingsman came around
>I opened up shop as a neutral good necromancer/doctor in a small village
>Then.....things got interesting

>The Leviathan Chapter
>Homeworld: Okeon
>Battle Cry: We Come As A Tsunami!
Parent chapter: Dark Angels
Rolled with chapter creation tables
The Leviathan Chapter was founded roughly 1,500 years before the invasion of the Tyranid fleet of the same name. They are descended from the Dark Angels, but few are the chapters that differ more from there primogenitors then the Leviathan. Nor are the two chapters overfond of one another. To a Leviathan, the Dark Angels are depressing, overly repentant, and disturbingly obsessive in their pursuit of the Fallen. A Dark Angel would reply by saying that the Leviathan are shameless, reckless, and unworthy of the legacy of the Lion. Never have the Leviathan hunted for the Fallen, and they maintain no real sense of loyalty To the Angels. The Leviathan homeworld of Okeon is a world consisting of massive Oceans and stormy seas. Medieval Island states dot the oceans, and it is from these people that the Leviathan recruit. When the Leviathan go to war, they approach it with enthusiasm, preffering to lay waste to the foe with brutal shock and awe tactics. But it is their specialty that they excel most in. The Leviathan Have the distinction of of being experts in all things related to amphibious warfare. Sea Serpent LVT's(modified Landraiders), and Coralbreaker Predators lead the charge through coastal beachead and swamp, flood and marsh, all following the now infamous Monsoon Bombardment plan. The Leviathan take great pride in their unique distinction, and there were even rumours that Chapter Master Mordecai Dubin was humoring ideas of an actual surface fleet. If such was true, it is now an impossibility. 20 years ago, the Leviathan pursued an Eldar force to the waterworld of Poseidos. Confident that the Xenos had trapped themselves in the chapters favourite setting setting, the Leviathan moved in for the kill. What followed was a slaughter. 4 companies were lost, and the chapter now owes the Dark Angels for bailing them out. Below

They had ignored calls for caution
from the Dark Angels, who had been hunting these Eldar for their own purposes. Through foul Xenos sorcery , the Eldar survived unscathed through the Monsoon Bombardment, and ambushed the overconfident marines. Half of the 1st company died covering the retreat. Only the timely arrival of the Dark Angels prevented an even greater massacre.

If you could rewrite your Primarch's whole story, what would you do with them ?

>Lion, the first son of the Emperor was much more human than his brothers, at least physically. He was the test run, Emperor creating more of an enchanted human than a demi-god of war the next Primarchs. He was only slightly taller than a normal human and slightly shorter than most of his Astartes, but still a match in combat even against his brothers.

>Before his reunion with his father he spent his adult life as an errant knight of the Order, a group of knights-protectors looking over the people of Caliban. He didn't attract much attention despite his combat prowess, being a very humble and reclusive warrior which would later reflect in the way he led his Legion.

>During the Great Crusade he would often leave the command of the battle to his Captains, himself taking to the field and mixing in between his Astartes preferring the way of a simple warrior. While tactically gifted he wasn't interested in a leadership role, taking it solely not to disappoint his father. This didn't garner him much respect from his brothers or officers, but thanks to his old master and adoptive parent, Luther, he gained an image of a silent hero that preferred to stand shoulder to shoulder with his fellow warriors rather than lead from a safe spot thanks to how he spun his stories.

>But in the end Luther and his fellow officers grew frustrated by the way he was looked up by their soldiers while they took the part of the bad guys in their eyes. Slowly the small nagging voices that reminded them of how they were looked down on started promising them power and glory if they removed Lion and thanks to the manipulation of Chaos a coup was staged, later referred to as the Fall by the surviving Astartes. It was a fierce battle with the betrayed Lion unleashing his rage for the first time and mercilessly slaughtered all those between him and Luther. Not much is know about how their fight went but at the end Lion returned the now unconscious Luther to his loyal sons, cast his sword into the void of space and exiled himself from the Legion, instructing the survivors to select a more worthy leader from among themselves. Since then the Dark Angels spent centuries hunting the Fallen and searching for their Primarch, believing he hid himself among humans to finally understand them and return when he finally believed himself to be worthy to lead his sons.

>In the end Lion was someone kind and loving that wanted to be a good person but in truth was also a horrible leader and comrade. He preferred to fight among his warriors because he thought simple combat was the only thing he was good at but avoided his real responsibilities as a leader of a Legion, someone he might've done much more good as out of fear of failing at it. He wanted to protect humanity due to the ideals instilled in him by Luthor and the Order, but didn't really understand humans. He looked much more human than his brothers, yet could be considered much less human than them.

Is there a good justification in fiction for a state military to invest in supersoldiers/generals/whatever versus stuff like infrastructure or weapons like supercarriers and drones?
27 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>53006243
While the cost effectiveness of super soldiers or super weapons is debatable and largely depends on the setting, I'd say the morale boost to your side for having them might make them worth it.

Sometimes you can't just flatten everything from orbit, meaning you need dudes on the ground. And sometimes you need better dudes on the ground.

Are there any examples of a fantasy setting where gods aren't actually real? Are there any examples (aside from 40k) of a sci-fi setting where gods are real?

What about ancient Japanese settings where "gods" were just super stronk spirits, and were essentially just another race?
>>
>>53005673
define 'gods' senpai
>>
"god" is just a classification of power, same as "titan"

Even in Christianity the ontological proof states that "God is the greatest being of which we can conceive." It doesn't say "this is God, here are his powers" it says "God means he's the biggest and the stompiest"
God as the creator means that as the understanding of creation expands, so too does the conception of that greatest being.

The issue is people thinking words have the same implied meaning across languages. "gods" in English, and many European languages, is linked to God, and people get dumb about what it means.
Meanwhile "deus" or "theós" only has the implied link to christianity because of the Roman Catholics.

We go to something like pre-contact Nahuatl, and their idea of gods as a classification of being is entirely different.

In short, you can't have a setting "without gods" because anything strong enough might be considered a god, or by virtue of creation existing, the assumed creator might be a god.

Real talk.
Would a war hammer 40k film work and how should it be done cause i only see 3 options

Completely serious live action CGI hybrid similar to the Warcraft film.

Slightly less serious animated film copying the atheistic of the models rather than what they would look like IRL like how to train your dragon

Live action CGI hybrid, non serious musical with different genres ranging from opera for the imperium to rock for the Orks

TL;DR would a Warhammer 40k film work as a live action musical?

I think its bones minis have been getting a lot of flack lately. The plastic is very soft and usually come warped. Then their paints are often, unfairly, compared to vallejo or army painter.

I personally love bones minis, they're dirt cheap and there is a very wide selection of them that is only growing. They are easy to cut up for conversions too. I also like reaper paints. They allow for fine detail and all the ones I have are really good.

Their washes though are garbage.

But getting back to the original topic, in order for /tg/ to have a waifu, or mascot, she cant already be a mascot for something else. Sophie is obviously reaper's mascot. It's weird having our mascot be someone that was already made to be a mascot for another company.
>>
>>53006936
Bones also have the problem of being slightly too detailed compared to their sculpt quality - pathfinder goblins, for example, are covered in tiny trophies and ornaments that look great in lead/ABS but don't translate well to soft plastic, which makes painting them frustrating. I appreciate bones for their cost, diversity, and availability, but never their quality!
