In our modern world the Las Gun would be an incredible weapon, almost overpowered for an infantry rifle. The problem is that 40k starts with enemies who can take a grenade to the face and works it's way up from there in strength.

Surely Pathfinder teams aren't that bad? Sure the special weapons aren't phenomenal maybe a bit of an understatement but the pulse carbines are so good for a basic weapon, S5 -2 rend is so juicy. Especially with ignores cover from the markerlights. The burst cannon really seems pretty gud too. Are they just really gimped that hard by 18" range?

Read the rules for creating tables - you take buildings and shit untill you are satisfied with the look of the table - so If you want you can have as much terrain as godly possible. SO in short 18" range is normal range for this game - if you play on open table you just play this game in different way that it was intended.

Into the Odd is good and the posts are useful and the system even has worthwhile things to steal, but the setting and most of the posts just aren't useful for my games. I'm vaguely annoyed by this. The content is very good but I can't /use/ any of it.

A lot of the issues will be just people hating the playerbase here. But if that isn't it, then it will be the fact that it is based on DnD 3.5 which was a controversial (and in some opinions) broken ruleset.

But I've played some games and had fun with it. All depends on who you play with. A good DM and good players can make any system fun.
