Traveller is a classic science fiction system first released in -2546. In its original release it was a general purpose SF system, but a setting was soon developed called The Third Imperium, based on classic space opera tropes of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, with a slight noir tint.
Though it can support a wide range of game types, the classic campaign involves a group of retired veterans tooling around in a spaceship, taking whatever jobs they can find in a desperate bid to stay in business, a la Firefly or Cowboy Bebop.

What's the most powerful you've gotten in a Traveller campaign? Or how powerful have your players gotten if you're a ref?

>-2546
So... King Meskalamdug of Ur wrote it? I can dig that.
>>53086292
>I can dig that
Marc Miller literally dug it up in 1977 at a dig site in Iraq. True story.
Then during his divine/alien inspired translation, he read that in Traveller's Imperial Calendar -2546 is the equivalent of Solomani/real-life 1977AD.
It's wheels within wheels man. Or space wheels within space wheels

Wait, how far into the future are we going? Or is GW seriously gonna squeeze in 4th sphere expansion into M41, when 3rd sphere started in 997.M41 and was just getting started by the end of M41. 1st and 2nd took thousands of years combined.
This opens up so many cool ideas for a Tau army. You can really do whatever you want now.

>Due to a singular enemy, that empire collapses and the dwarfies are a merge shadow of their former self.
>Good relations with humans, hates elves.
>Obsessed with vengeance
Why the hell does every Dwarf race in all every fantasy work have these exact traits?!
characteristic of the majority of tolkien's dwarves which were simplified further for early dnd which itself is either simplified further or used as the jumping board for everyone's idea of fantasy
to stretch it out of this notion of what dwarves/dwarfs ought to be and not just be "my dwarfs/dwarves are like regular dwarves/dwarfs but" you might as well just create your own race
>>53206193
Probably same reason why dwarves are very similar physically and culturally too from setting to setting, unlike elves or even orcs.
Dwarves are basically just bizarro humans.
>>Dwarf's originally have a massive Empire
They certainly don't have an empire, not in the sense what we understand under an empire.

what ever happened to all those Dark Ages bloodlines that are never mentioned in modern nights? did they just die out? Can they be used?
>>53201155
The random chance to frenzy going up is much more annoying than any blood resource.
Totally losing control is too big a deal to be doing that. Any time it happens you have a better than even chance of dying or doing something that later gets you killed and there's no playing around the new development like a parodox - part of the development is that you can't do anything about it at all after it starts.

Excuse me but there is any valid reason to play 3.5 nowadays?
i get playing 2e and earlier systems, because OSR.
i get playing 4e, because you love boardgame videogamey combat.
i get playing 5e, because mainstream
but 3.5? there is any valid reason to play it instead of just going PF?
>>53197937
Clownier shit than what you can do in PF.
Again, PF might have overtaken 3.5 on clowny crap like divine metamagic+divine power+24h spell
>>53197937
Installed base. If you have a group that still plays 3.5 and doesn't want to bother switching.
>>53197937
As someone who hates 3.5 and will speak out on its flaws at length, you don't need a 'reason' to play it.
No amount of flaws means you have to justify playing a game. We might question your choice and ask what benefits it brings you and your group, but at the end of the day it's a question of choice and what you find fun.
Some people sincerely, legitimately enjoy 3.5, for a multitude of reasons. I might personally find them bizarre or see logical flaws, that the things they claim to enjoy about the system are more to do with houserules, interpretations or the group itself than the actual ruleset, but at the end of the day if they're having fun I can't say they're wrong for doing it. That'd make me just another badwrongfun asshole.
Nothing strokes my boner like some sweet bilingual bonus when I'm playing whatever rpg with my group. When a player can bust out germanic cursing or some russian folk song in place of draconic or whatever speaking in tongues, it really sells it for me.
Do you guys have any stories like this? Any bards who actually played traditional lute at the table? Ever play a survival game with a guy who's former military? Do you know someone who's ACTUALLY slain a dragon? Shit's cool yo, tell me
>>53196083
>Do you guys have any stories like this?

I speak several languages and always use them to add spice to certain characters. I'm also pretty good at birdcalls which can help if the campaign is in the right setting.
I agree with you, and most of the time it's just little things, but roleplaying is very much you get out of it what you put into it, and I always go full monty.
We all have that one dream weapon. It could be that one artist's rendition of a stabby thing. Or maybe it's that leather-bound tome featured in your favorite fantasy novel.
If you've ever seen or imagined a weapon that you would just KILL to have a realistic replica of, share it!
Pluto SLAM
>>53184550
Eternium is an indestructable, unmodifiable, unbendable, unbreakable material. Which makes it completely useless, even the god of smiths can't make anything out of the stuff. There's just a pillar of it holding up the realm of the gods.
One day the god of rogues stole few rapier-shaped chunks out of that pillar. They're impractically thin because they'll never bend or break anyway, and impractically sharp because they'll never chip. You could cut through rocks with one, if you were strong enough.
I've wanted one of those since I first introduced those in a game.
>>53184550
I could make that.
It'd be heavy as shit but i could do it
So anon, What's your favorite generic system ? For what reasons ?
>>53176893
Risus. It has like one page of rules and it's actually good. We can be done with character creation in less time than it would take to explain the rules in most other games.
You could build a better system in two pages of rules, but it would be less than twice as good as Risus.
>>53176893
GURPS. It just checks every box for me. The system covers almost everything I could want to run, no end of crunch to play with, a rock-solid core mechanic that everything else is built on top of, and an amazing community to boot.
Pathfinder
Tons of material
Interesting, balanced classes
Everyone knows it
No need to buy books
I've never seen the need to play any of these other hipster snowflake games when Pathfinder works perfectly for any possible type of game.
Have you ever seen a femme fatale type NPC in a game?
>not playing the femme fatale
>not playing a whole party of femmes fatale locked into increasingly more outrageous games of seduction brinksmanship with and against eachother
>>53214890
Gosh, no, I don't think so, Mister Anon.
>>53214890
how many times did Jack cum in Aku?
This is going to be long, and I'm going to sound like a faggot. I'm sorry.
I've been DMing pathfinder with the same group for around four years now and we've never finished a campaign. They never level up whwn I ask them too, none of them ever know how their class works, one guy had to have someone else keep his character sheet, etc. But this year we couldnt finish because my life fucking fell apart, but everyone is acting like I let THEM down.
Like, I get it. I asked too much of them. I asked them to keep track of a piece of paper, to occasionally go to a website or ask me for a book so they could make minor changes to saud paper. I asked them to show up on time. I'm sorry.
But I lost my mental healthcare coverage when my insurance changed in January. I can't afford my normie pills. So yeah, my schedule got erratic. I flunked out of school. And I spent three days working on a new map of my world nonstop. So it was hard to get you. I let you down this time. Not that you were any better about showing up on time or keeping up with your character sheet. But yeah, I'm a bad DM. I didnt hold up my part of the bargain. And I'm sorry we never got to solve the mystery of that mimic infested castle, or figure out who that old homeless guy was. I hope you guus find plenty of people to play with now that you've all graduated. Maybe they'll be better about making you tow the line.
>Tl:dr do any of you guys have experience using lego as minis for dnd or pathfinder? And where can i buy bulk lego minis for less than the cost of both my kidneys?
>>53214586
>But I lost my mental healthcare coverage when my insurance changed in January
Thanks Obama, even ttrpgs got fucked because of you.
>>53214586
Lego isn't cheap. People make a living being resellers for collectors. Hope you get lucky on eBay, but that's it.
The cheap option for minis is paper standees. Look up on YouTube 'cardstock miniatures' for guides and such.
>>53214586
RPGs work like every other social structure. Take for example highschool, university and people at your work place. As years go by people leave, new people come in. You alienate from certain people or they leave because you stop having things in common.
When I started playing rpgs there were around 20 people and 5-6 different gaming groups I knew and played with. Now 10 years later I'm playing with only one group that consist of 3 old guys (we are friends for around 8 years.) and one new guy that came into gaming around 2-3 years ago.
I lost touch with everyone else. We didn't leave on bad terms. It is just we didn't have many things at common and as times goes by everyone went their way.
Now you shouldn't take rps too seriously. They can suck energy and life out of you. You can burnout very easily. Your players are type that take it somewhat to extreme with taking it easy. they should show at least some effort.
I don't agree with them being cunts and blaming you because of your mood getting erratic because of your life spiraling down the drain right now. I wouldn't call that kind of person your friend.
It took me a long time to find a good group. and it took even longer for that group to form in its current shape. Also it isn't perfectly automated engine. In current group there is this guy who is my polar opposite. He is erratic while I'm meticulous. He will do random shit while I'm always trying to have a plan. He is rebel at heart while I'm loyal servant of an empire. But we can play together while in the past we couldn't stand each other and wouldn't want to play in same group.
So don't lose hope anon. You'll find a group that is willing to compromise with you (but you also need to compromise with them)
