Awright, step lively, hustle up, one two one two! You louts are the sorriest sacks of shit I have ever seen! I don't know how in the Emperors blessed name you're meant to fight the enemies of humanity, but our great acting high general Roboute Guilliman - blessings of the Emperor be upon him, son of the Emperor hisself - has seen to it in his infinite and unquestionable wisdom to authorize the raising of a regiment to fight the enemies of Man! And by the Emperor, he will have his regiment, even if I have to cut every last one of you gobshites into peices and sew you back together into the shape of proper soldiers!

Now sound off! What sort of regiment is this!? (d100)

>Avoiding this Cartoon effect

I don't want to describe every person or possible ambush point, but if I don't mention it I'm a shitty Dm / Do mention a lot players will waste time and I'm a shitty Dm. In 5e, passive perception helps with this a bit for planning, but it still makes them look into everything I mention (it's a meta game issue too, but they are getting better at that)

>Balancing details and momentum?

How do you make sure that my game moves at an interesting and reasonable pace, while maintaining a immersive level of detail?

> Snacks

Do you guys try and keep it healthy(ish)? My group has a few over weight people so we are trying to not.make every Saturday PIZZA AND BEER NIGHT. Maybe a bowl of almonds, so fruits or veggies, bit of light dip. Do you eat while you play or ask that the table is clear?

> Digital information

Some of my players use digital character sheets or spell books or take notes on their cell phones, which makes it really hard to get them to focus. So far I've made it so cell phones are banned during any combat or social scene involving the character, but even when a party member comes "back into scene" ( say, after a quick rp with the scout, so it's 1 on 1 with the Dm.) It's hard to get them reinvested into the game.

> Snacks
Everyone chips in 5 to 7 bucks a week and we make a big dinner which is usually eaten halfway thru the session (ours last about 6 hours of gametime, 1 hour for food

>Some of my players use digital character sheets or spell books or take notes on their cell phones

All of this is a huge fucking no at our table. No electronics, ever, for any reason

>I don't want to describe every person or possible ambush point, but if I don't mention it I'm a shitty Dm / Do mention a lot players will waste time and I'm a shitty Dm.
If something is drawn like in your OP, mention that thing and two or three other things.

>How do you make sure that my game moves at an interesting and reasonable pace, while maintaining a immersive level of detail?
Try to add at least one descriptor into every statement you make. Example:
>DM: You're in the main hall of the ancient temple. Suddenly a shape lunges from the darkness (player failed their roll to see it before it attacked) behind one of the huge carved pillars!
>Player: I throw my sword at it! (player rolls)
>DM: The sword sails through the air, missing the mysterious shape (player rolled badly) and colliding with one of the beautiful female visages carved into the temple, bouncing off hard enough to take a chip out of her cheek (sword tip is bent).

>Snacks
Depends on the group. I used to play with a group where the host/GM would always feed us leftovers of his wife's terrible cooking, but sometimes the awesome This Girl would bring over amazing foreign dishes that she somehow knew how to make that worked well as finger food.

>phones and shit
Hell no. Fuck the memers on /tg/, phones stay off unless you're an EMT or your wife's nine months pregnant. The DM can have a computer if he needs it for books or atmospheric music or whatever, but players don't need anything but their sheets and dice. We survived playing all night with nothing but a single landline phone on the wall, kids today can survive it too.
>>
Describe a few of the previous rooms in the same level of detail but they don't do anything. Bluff them and throw them off the scent.

>a fine universe with good amount of handcrafted lore just so happens to have retarded philosophy as a base
>a man is tasked to make an RPG about such universe
>watches through every single material concerning the universe
>sees the philosophy at a base for what it is, simplistic drivel that works fine in simple hero tales and breaks apart in any kind of mildly morally ambiguous situation
>decides to make a game about all the ways philosophy is retarded for fun, while also respecting the lore and minute details for more fun
>makes an entire character who often argues devil's advocate with you to push a revolutionary idea of "perhaps not being a retard requires thinking for yourself once in a while"
>said character also chastises you for reflexively doing evil deeds that don't help you and good deeds that don't help others if you make those
>her rejected pupils were rejected exactly because they were addicted to doing evil deeds that didn't make their lives better
>really it's pretty much old hag, Nietzsche
>said character also makes up a motivation near the end of wanting to "kill the Force" or whatever just so you fight her and then don't feel shackled to her either
>reeee why does the evil sith hag say good is not good and evil is not evil it's wrong!!! if good guys kill evil they are the best because evil guys are the worst!!!
Didn't know /tg/ was contrarian about that one.
Sure, it's not like dismantling a childish ideology that everybody else tries to work around is in any way preferable to working around it too, but the result was fun and well-written, so who cares.

Define in your words what exactly the "core philosophy" of the Star Wars universe (or at the least, the force) is.

Storythread: 'after a long rest recover all story slots'- edition. The untimely demise of the previous thread has given us all a rather relaxed fortnight, so I hope you're all refreshed and ready to get back to writing again.

This is a thread for creative writing of /tg/-related fiction, so epic campaign greentexts and the like go elsewhere. If you have /tg/ related stories to post, post them here, and hopefully some kind anon will give you feedback (or at least acknowledge that someone did actually read it, which let's face it is what writefags really want).

If you don't have a story ready then I and other anons will be posting pictures throughout the thread for you to test your writing skills on. This is, more or less, a world-building and character-building exercise: two vital skills for playing roleplaying games. If you don't have any pics to post, you could try posting an idea for a setting or a character, and maybe someone will be willing to write a story using it. It's also an exercise in writing though, where writefags can try out their material and gain inspiration, so if you just want to talk about world-building save it for the world-building threads.

Remember that writefags love to have feedback on their work. Writing takes a long time, especially stories that go over several posts, and it can be really depressing when no one even seems to read it (and the writer won't know you read it unless you leave a comment).

And since writing takes a long time remember to keep the thread bumped. Pics are good, feedback is better.

There is a discord for writers:
https://discord.gg/6AwKHGF

The previous thread can still be found in the archive here

So is it just me or are the Night Lords not scary at all?

I mean aesthetically. They're blue (peaceful color) with cartoonish spooky imagery (bright red bat wings and lightning bolts) and their displays of atrocity boil down to wearing flayed skins and the usual skull trophies.

I mean fuck, the average imperial servitor looks ten times more gruesome and threatening than a Night Lord. The entirety of the Death Guard are gorier and more disgusting, most Emperor's Children are so fucked up with surgery that they make Night Lords look like average joes, and let's not even mention what some xenos races look like.

They pride themselves with being the cruelest and the scariest, and all they have to show for it is a few flayed skins.
Is that seriously the best they can do? Is that ALL they can do? Cause I don't really remember them doing anything else. It's always "muh flayed skins" and it's not even that special by 40k standards.
Can't they at least impale a few babies on their trophy racks? Or do something more creative with corpses than just flaying them?
I know they're not big on the whole warp powers thing but if they really gave a shit they could do some really cool shit with that. They don't even have to limit themselves to what is physically possible. And yet they haven't evolved since the Great Crusade in terms of gruesomeness. They have the opportunity to go full Hellraiser (minus the medical theme cause that's the Haemonculi's gimmick) and yet they stick to the same old shit as when they were loyal.

tl;dr
why are NLs such huge unimaginative pussies?

The Blood Bowl online server has been back up for a while now. I'm hoping to get most of the regulars back in, and hopefully get a bunch of new players as well.

For those who don't know what Blood Bowl is: It's like football/rugby in the Warhammer Fantasy world. It was a tabletop game at first, but with this you can also play it online. You choose a race, build a team, and beat your opponent senseless (or you just try to score touchdowns with fancy footwork and smart passing without breaking too many skulls, if you're some kind of faggy Elf or something). It requires a small downloads each game (it's java-based), but it's worth it. Once you get the hang of it (usually takes 1-2 games), games can get really awesome.

We've got our own DISCORD channel now. It'shttps://discord.gg/NTdqdEW. If you want to play, joining the DISCORD channel is a good start since it makes things easier for all of us.

I'll post a small 'how to get started' to help you set up your stuff first.

First of all, go to FUMBBL.com and make an account. After making an account you'll probably have to agree to the site rules first to do anything, so just scroll all the way down and pretend you've read it (or actually read it, if you want). Don't forget to do this, because accepting the rules is a part many people seem to skip, and most of the other options won't appear until you do it.

>>
Getting Started

Next, back on the site, click on "Overview". That's your 'home' screen, where you'll be able to see your teams. Right now you'll have no teams, so make one by clicking "Create a Team". Choose the "Ranked" division, because that's where 99% of all players are (later on if we decide to do a /tg/-league, we'll use the "League" division). Next you can choose a race and team name. For starting races, Humans, Orcs, or Dark Elves are good, but since we're all noobs anyway, just choose the race you think is coolest, and click "Create". You'll be taken back to the Overview screen.

Now you have a team, but no players. To start adding players, click on the name of your newly created team. I'm not going to explain what players you should buy, so go to FUMBBL: Race Strategy for that. Clicking on the "Starting Rosters" link for your team provides you with a list of effective starting teams. Just choose one of them.

Now, buy some Re-Rolls as instructed by the Starting Roster you chose. Finally, click "Submit for approval" and "Yes, my team complies" to finish your team and get ready for playing. When you're done, post here or better yet join DISCORD so I can teach you how to actually play.

What's up dudes, you guys have helped me in the past for dnd campaigns, so I wish to summon your ideas again!

I'm gm for a campaign and have been making a d100 chart for randoms events.

The players are on their rite of passage to a destination 1500 miles away. The land is treacherous with there being many ruins from wars that past hundreds of years ago. Evil outsiders are all over the place, but 'peace' is enforced by a LG city. There are many free towns/cities, but most of the land is barren.

The route they take is up to the players, so in that way, it will work like a sandbox.

I have most of my d100 chart filled out, but need more ideas. Can I get some help dudes?

Pic somewhat related. I'm using Eberron for a lot of stuff, but much has changed including geography and locations of countries and whatnot.

can you give us a couple of examples of what you mean by random events? are we talking about massive, world-changing events/quests like encountering some baron's soldiers breaking into a cursed tomb, turning into super-zombies and releasing a curse around the world, or minor throwaway encounters like seeing a particularly fat merchant on the road who sells pink crossbows?
>>
Sure!

Just minor stuff.

On a 24, they come across a small caravan of traders that are willing to trade with players, but if they agree to help guard the caravan, they will trade with them at discounts.

On a 57, they discover a small city, but it is in ruins and is unexplored.(Which the players have been warned that there can be nothing here, or could be inhabited by people/creatures that aren't friendly)
>>
Although, a random event like the zombies could also be a thing though, just not world shattering events. Just things that are important to the region.

I found this on facebook
