go wild!
Lets explore the idea of demons fighting eachother
militarization of demons not in symbiotic form
>When you look back at the chatlogs on Roll20 and remember how your planet-busting PL 18 villain (Darkseid is officially statted as a PL 16 by the way in the DC Adventures version of MnM 3e by the way) rolled nothing above a 3 and at least 4 nat 1s on their Resistance checks
>One of the nat 1s being just enough to have said villain pissing themselves and literally unable to do anything
>The player character's speech-based Affliction has them what is essentially a Mind control-esque condition and the PC's girlfriend blasting what little remained into pieces.
Have you ever been this fucked by the dice when it comes to creating a final boss encounter? Particularly in Mutants and masterminds?
>>53224619
If it bothers you that much, do gm rolls/roll behind a screen.
Also, keep in mind that your boss being a bitch isn't necessarily a bad thing. Just makes them cocky and easier to knock down when the next existential threat surfaces.
Maybe that guy wasn't actually the mastermind, just a pawn used by the REAL big bad. Isn't that like a staple trope in comics?
>>53224862
>If it bothers you that much, do gm rolls/roll behind a screen.
Yeah, unfortunately I think the biggest problem I now realize is that pleasing my solo player, from what remains of the previous campaign, feels impossible. I gave them two additional NPCs to help in the fight that were once out of the fight, and said NPCs were enough to rob the villain out of any actions.
When I first started playing the game, I always did my rolls via /gmroll, but that become literally almost everyone's complaint, so I switched because they demanded it.
Said player was getting to the point where they were getting sick of the campaign because the villain was doing things her character couldn't always stop. To be honest she wouldn't have even gotten the chance to do that Affliction if I had just had the villain retreat without anyone noticing as I planned and then had a real final battle to uncorrupt the other worlds afterwards.
TL;DR tried to please players, can't do anything right it seems.

>Me: "The Mage Emperor of Zalam weaves a wholly original spell, one that defies categorization under known schools of magic! Iridescent, scintillating rays spring forth, spiraling about wildly before they strike each of you! Roll Constitution saves!"
>all PCs succeed on their saves, and all the d8s for damage come up 1-3, for a total of 16 damage before being halved
>Me: "...you all take 8 damage and don't suffer any of the status effects the spell WOULD have inflicted."
Such status effects included: petrified, paralyzed, blinded, slowed, bleeding, confused, gravity reversed, poisoned, and a couple others I can't remember, determined by rolling randomly, with the possibility of multiple effects at once.
Sorry if I'm not using the right terms; my friends and I are new to D&D, and playing it for fun. We've been playing for a few months now, and the only thing that bugs me is how much our dungeon master power plays/godmodes/etc our player characters.
It's minor things, and usually for laughs. For example, we did a perception check in the rain - one of us gets a 2, so DM says they get rain in their eyes (fair) and then slips and falls on their ass (well....)
Another example: constitution check on a rocky boat. Mostly for fun, to see if we get seasick. My character does, which is fair, and she tells me that he pukes on the deck. If anything, I would have made him puke overboard, but she tells me that I got off easy, and that at least I didn't puke on myself.
It bugs me that she's telling us what are characters are doing... Especially in situations where they have some control.
Any help or similar experience? I don't want to make her feel bad, since she's trying to just make it funny, and she doesn't have a player character to have fun with. But it's irritating me when she says "your character does x y and z".
I generally frown on and avoid doing that sort of thing when I GM. I know some people like doing things like that but I personally thin it's shitty to overly dictate what the player does. I've seen a lot of stories of people failing an X social roll and the DM going on and on about exactly all the awful, retarded shit the character does, like failing a persuade roll and your character aggressively insulting the NPC while pissing in their own mouths
>>53224618
A good rule of thumb is that after a roll the GM tells whether the character succeeded or failed, but lets the player describe how.
>>53224618
Give her the Dungeon Master's book, tell her how you honestly feel about itand say maybe she could improve her DMing with that.
I want to watch a movie. I need to plan a haunted house session. What's the best movie to mine for ideas?
I'm not looking for *good,* so fuck /tv/. What movie has the most shit that made you sit up and go "holy shit, I NEED that in my next horror session?"
Just the other day I watched Dead Birds. Average movie, but there's this great cornfield in front of the house that just begs to take a little too long for the party to get through. Not "we're trapped here" long, just... noticeably longer than it should.
That kind of thing.
>Legend of Hell House
>The Conjuring
>The Haunting, even though the plot is kind of shity I really like the aesthetics of the house, some of the statues/gargoyles come alive to fuck with people.
>Rose Red
>The Legend of Sleepy Hollow if you want to have a farm village near by.
> The Woman in Black, the spooky house is built out on the English moors so the road to it is only accessible at certain times before it gets flooded again. I thought you might like that since you liked the cornfield they had to get through in Dead Birds.
Other than that I can't think of anymore that are specifically haunted house themed.
>>53227373
You forgot Amityville Horror.
If hotels count then the Shining fits too.
Burnt Offerings.
Sounds like you just have shit taste.
>>53227453
And if OP doesn't mind spoilers for Burnt Offerings the twist is what makes it worthwhile. The house absorbs the life essence out of people in order to repair itself. It starts off kinda run down and after having people die the house starts to repair and take over more while using the wife as its thrall.
Is it possible for someone good who can hear people dying and crying for help every second not go insane?
>>53223742
Not if they have a human brain. It's one of the reasons that comic is so good.
>>53223742
>crying for help every second
Does parenthood count?
>>53223777
What's that comic's name?

I despise Kobolds for being a low-CR trash race that somehow gained a following almost purely on the hopes and cum-soaked dreams of furries, projecting nerds and contrarians.
>>53223656
I still can't believe people think that scalies would make for good PCs in serpent's skull of all APs.
Whats next? Some Succubus obsessed Lesbian in Wrath of the righteous?
>how do youl like your kobolds
Ripped apart by the trained wardogs I keep chained up next to my stockpiles or knocked into a cage trap for use as target practice for the militia.

Nothing? Your thread sucks.

Big deal. You could be playing war machine.
why would the dungeon master spawn such a guy?>??

The fumes from the Shit in the sewage system suffocated a plumber creating a vengeful spirit that possessed the sewage in order to take vengeance on everyone who contributed to killing him.
well, shit is a form of dead plant/animal matter so a necromancer could raise the undead as a form of shit golem. same as hair golem or nail clippings golem.
we have seen that before
The King's Man have arrived at your parties town
What will you do
Say hi? Ask how the king is. I dunno. Throw a party?

I've come for you.Spread 'em.

I heard you make a wicked potato salad. Is that true?
>>53223128
Actually, I'm just here for experience points. You see, there's not many clerics that can cast Greater Restoration in this setting, beside me - and I'm not even strong enough to cast it yet. If I don't level up in a few days, I'm gonna be devoured by a particularily nasty curse.
So, do you have a quest I could take? Do you happen to need twenty bear asses, for example?
Rate my party

Not good enough.
Hear ye, hear ye. I hereby call to order this meeting of the most illustrious Mages Guild! The Final examination period is over. The gruelling suffering of assignments, tests, and practical projects is no more, the students are free and now the staff must begin the long arduous process of marking and moderation. Now, the administration teams will be collecting the marks and we shall be able to compare this year's results with the last. I am desperately hoping for significant improvements in some of the more niche departments, especially those departments only headed by a single lecturer, because obviously I can't fire you and have someone else take over.
Staff! Discuss how you believe your department will fare in the coming results, what were the predicted grades? How well do you think the students have done? Is there even any hope for those in need of retaking the year?
Students! How well do you think you have done? Were the examinations hard? Do you think your teachers have taught you well enough throughout the year and adequately prepared you for the overwhelming examination season? Oh, and most importantly, do you have a plan B if your marks go south?
Those outside of the Education system! Do you have any suggestions for how teaching could be improved? Is there a subject you would like to see given more attention? How do you perceive those taught in the guild compared to those tutored outside it?
Obviously if you still have examinations to go, such as those of you in different time-zones, get out of this meeting and go study. Its for your own good.Welcome to the Mages' Guild. Pick a name and join in! Conflicts are resolved with d20s when needed, or with playing it out. When the thread dies on /tg/, we keep it going on archived.moe. >Sobs next to the guild, being 6 meters tall.
I would just like to say, to all my necromancy students, that most of you who aren't dead passed. Mostly by not being dead. And, for any ectomancers who were dumped in our department halfway through the semester in spite of not liking necromancy or its students, I applaud you for surviving, and wish you luck in any future endeavors because I'm sure like half of you aren't coming back next semester.
>>53222152
Two of the students entrusted to me survived three months. So they get to live.
As for the department, I barely see the head anymore so I have no idea.
How diverse do you like your science fiction?
Very.
Aliens everywhere, each of a different species.
>>53221100
The future should only have black people. They're clearly better prepared, having already evolved the perfect camouflage for the darkness of space.
>>53221100
You mean as in species or skin color or sexuality?
What character concepts are you dying to play /tg/?
I personally want to play a True Believer in the Dresden Files RPG, who's power comes from his belief in the destiny of mankind, and our ability to fight back against the predators who lie in wait in the darkness.
>>53220740
I've always wanted to play a mind control character that treated his victims like characters in a roguelike. He likes to see how far he can get with them on adventures before they die.
I'd like to play a farmboy who takes the mantle of paladin from the god of agriculture. He's got some farmstead-themed divine magic and fights mostly with repurposed farm tools,
It's pretty niche in both mechanics and required setting, I'll never get to.
>>53220898
Check out The Dark Eye, they have a whole "class"/profession laid out for that concept, the priest/ess of Peraine.
