On an unrelated note, does anyone have the source on these Marines? If I'm going to keep baking bread, it'd be nice to make a few more thread banners.
So who should write the Salamanders if not Kyme?
IT IS FINISHED
>>53279486
Literally anyone else. Kyme should not write.
I'm creating a campaign (jungle setting) where the players are escorting a monk on a pilgrimage. The monk's patron deity is a god of art with 7 "aspects", which were the god incarnated in human form (pretty much avatars in hinduism), each time bringing a new art to humanity. The aspects have the following domains: written knowledge/poetry, music, art of war, building/engineering, tapestry weaving, sculpting/pottery, and painting (or fresco, haven't decided). At each shrine/holy site, the pilgrim has to give an offering (like the pilgrimage in morrowind)
The writing guy has a great library (offering is knowledge donated to the library or a self-written poem) and the engineer has a wall that's a marvel of engineering (not sure what the offering for that is)
For the sculptor/potter, I'm thinking a garden of sculptures where one or two are created by the aspect/prophet and the rest are things that people brought on their pilgrimage and it gradually built over time. However, I'm also thinking that pottery is likely super important because it allows the storage of water, which is life-sustaining, and that's really important, so something with that might be better for the shrine. I'm also thinking maybe he created an artifact that's a pot with magically unlimited water capacity yet never gains weight.
For the warlord, my first idea was his sword stuck in the ground in the center of an ancient battlefield, but that seems kinda lazy. Offering might be one's own blood, but that's kinda edgy and something more eloquent would be better.
Music, tapestry, and painting I have no idea what the holy site would look like.
Maybe the painter shrine requires one's own painting as an offering. maybe the music shrine just requires one to sing an original song.
any ideas?
>The Holy Site has a Doom cast upon it
>painting
Cave paintings.
>>53279560
This is actually a really interesting concept. The setting is supposed to be late Bronze Age tech (with many exceptions, ie steel + cannons/gunpowder in northern superpower, steam-powered city the godly engineer built but is so complex it hasn't been completely reverse-engineered in the hundreds of years its existed, etc) so cave painting would fit in really well. Like the aspect first taught man how to paint on cave walls.
what could a good offering be though? i guess the place could have been equipped over the years to host people's paintings, so people bring their paintings to a massive tunnel and now its just a huge art gallery spanning close to a mile with the paintings of pilgrims of all skill levels, including some that look like they were made by children
How possible is it to become physically attracted to a member of another race in your games?
Is it just humans and elves - and occasionally orcs - like in most standard fantasy? Or are even elves so utterly uncanny to look at to make it impossible, and orcs find even human girls too hideous to rape? What of even more inhuman beings, such as goblins, or lizardfolk, or beholders? Where do you draw the line?
How much of this can true love compensate?
>>53278796
>Interracial
No.
>>53278796
Given how common various atypical desires and fetishes are in humans, I don't think it would be that uncommon, even between very different races. Not the standard, sure, but far from unheard of.
It also depends heavily on the nature of your setting. Are you assuming that all the races are, as they are in the real world, genetically distinct evolved species where the lack of attraction between different species makes sense?
What about a world of literal divine creation of sentient creatures? Is there a reason the various races of that world wouldn't be able to interbreed, or that they'd be psychologically primed to be against the notion in any way?
I draw the line where "interracial" becomes "interspecies".
Humans, elves, orcs, halflings, dwarves, and occasionally goblins are one type. Kobolds, lizardfolk, troglodytes, and maybe dragons another. Gnolls get along fine with any other canine races there might be. Aberrations (beholders etc.) are right out.
It's always harder than with your kind, but occasionally happens. Good personality helps a lot.

Most degenerate UGx commander?
Hey guys! What do you think of my custom commander, which was recently allowed in my group?
I hope it's not too strong of a card!
So I recently stumbled across All Quiet on the Martian Front and it inspired me to go read through War of the Worlds again. Are there any other game systems that focus on an alien invasion of old-time pasts, or at least War of the Worlds-style settings? Has there been any in-depth lore for All Quiet on the Martian front?
Also, post art or worldbuilding.
>>53278565
Postin some top-tier material, The Great Martian War.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucu_N2uq8XA
Premise is: What if H.G. Wells' Martians invaded in 1913 and sparked World War I?
>>53281239
I love this concept! The invasion occurs just a couple of decades after the canonical invasion and technology has moved on to the point that the humans can make a good fight of it (and even win in the film you posted).
Okay, question: What's the latest the Marians could have invaded (assuming they have the same level of tech as in the original War of The Worlds) and still had a good chance of winning?
How would they hold up against a united Earth military effort today / how would we hold up against the Martians?
>>53281239
I do love well done alt-history documentaries like that. I wish there were more of them.
Let's look at the shield for a momen.
Shield is a crucial tool on the battlefield, and wielding one with a one-handed weapon in the other hand is pretty cool and full of flavor. Most fantasy systems support this and offer many character options - feats and traits and whatnot - that make the warrior more effective with his shield, to defend himself but also for offense.
But realistically speaking (and as something that virtually no system actually does, probably because it's boring), once you're wearing full plate armor, shield suddenly becomes worthless, even a liability: it's heavy, cumbersome, and doesn't really protect you any more than the steel you're already wearing does - you can parry with your plated wrist and soak arrows with your chestplate. Shield-bashing isn't much more effective than just punching the guy with your gauntlet, either. Suddenly all that time you spent specializing is for naught... or is it?
What's a former shield expert to do after he at last has the money or favor to get himself slapped in full plate? Can he still stick to his shield and have it be useful enough to bother having around? Or could he transfer all that expertise into a simple armored hand, use it to parry attacks and punch people instead of the shield? And where do magic shields stand in this equation?
>>53278084
Armor plating isn't as thick or absorptive as a shield, while having it strapped to your arm means that you can increase impact time against the shield to decrease the effective force of the blow. A suitably large shield (ie. more than a buckler) can be used to obscure the position of your main-hand weapon as well, granting you a slight edge in the possibility of surprise movements.
>>53278084
Bucklers worked pretty well both for offense and defense, not to mention the part about armor making shields redundant only applied to knights. Everyone else still benefitted from them up until firearms became more prevalent.
Long story short: shift to training duelists or common soldiers.
>>53278084
Shields weren't used with proper full plate once it came around, not because it was cumbersome, but because it was more or less redundant. Normally redundancy is good, but the tradeoff that humanity went for instead was the beginning of the metagame of real life combat - stabbing things from further away, with the much more widespread adoption of two-handed weapons that were longer (longswords, polearms, etc). What's a former shield user to do? Same thing they did in real life. Pick up a bigger, longer weapon and fuck people from a greater reach. Or pick up a gun (or a few).
>>53278169
>Armor plating isn't as thick or absorptive as a shield
1: depends on the shield
2: you don't know how shields are used
Shields are used for parrying using the edge or deflective purposes if at all possible, and the large sized ones's main benefit was more coverage from projectiles (spears, arrows, bolts) none of witch could really ever pierce any kind of shield that wasn't made of a single sheet of hide or something equally stupid. Obscuring the position of your main hand weapon is also stupid, because you would be adding more movement required before making contact and therefore going to be telegraphing your attack more. Also, most shield/weapon guards use the weapon to guard ALSO, and this is actually very, very important.
The flipside is that plate is expensive and not as easy to maintain as some other armor. Less full plate was made at first, mostly being relegated to heavy cav and the like. Later on you get more people with breastplates, but that's more the bulletproofed ones, and they filled a role similar to modern day ballistic vests. Less about protecting from melee attacks as shrapnel, and projectiles to the vitals. Part of the reason why the buckler and protective handguards got super popular- people mostly said "fuck it" to armor if they couldn't afford it or were in civilian situations and just stuck to parrying
Primaris space marines are great and TG needs to fucking accept this.
These guys are the perfect answer for all of 40k players bitching ive heard over the years, they are the pefect way to introduce true scale marines.
>lol they are just spacier space marines, how clever
the gene seed of space marines has been ever evolving since the creation of the thunder warriors. When the emperor was not just some spoopy skeleton sitting on his golden thrown he was always trying to improve the geneseed, making even better warriors. The thunder warriors are not like the 30k marines, and the 30k marines are not like the 40k marines, improvements have been made over the years, even if they are small
Now introduce a primarch, a literal demigod, and a mad scientist who has been fiddling with he gene seed for around 10k years, you are bound to find improvements.
These are not like centurians, they are a lot different.
>they basically make my space marines not even worth having
bullshit on so many scales. While the primaris marines are better, they will most certainly cost more and have other drawbacks to using them. Right now in 7th you can field entire armies of dreadnoughts and terminators, but people usually dont since these units are not as flexible in what they can do. Tactical marines will still have a solid foundation in army lists because they are flexible units, and because their transports are fucking cheaper than dirt. Primaris marines will most certainly be bulky and require expensive transports.
>i wanted true scale marines, not nu marines
This is the only way you are going to get bigger marines. GW is not going to suddenly make tactical marines a lot bigger, they would have to do that for the entire space marine catalog for every vehicle and character. This way GW can introduce bigger marines, which people have been asking for for fucking years, without having to re-do the entire SM catalog
also they look fucking great.
>>53277965
Primaris marines are cute. CUTE !
>>53277965
I personally dig em. They're how marines should be, both model wise and stat wise.
They're like Grey Knights, even speshuler and betterer than the special better than normal humans people, ie basic bitch shonen anime shit
MY NEW GUYS ARE EVEN COOLER THAN YOUR COOL GUYS :^)
That being said 40k's setting hasn't been anything but utter garbage since maybe 3rd edition at the absolute latest, so who cares?

Probably Monty Cook is ghost-writing most of them.
What do you want to see in Iconic Masters?
Llanowar Elves
Serra Angel
Prodigal Sorcerer
Rishdan Port
Dark Depths
Counterspell
Goblin Piledriver
Remand
Glorious Anthem/Crusade
Phantom Monster
Hill Giant
Grizzly Bears
I honestly just want most of the shit around 4th-6th edition in a draft environment. Make it an absolutely garbage set so it sells for way less than MSRP and we're good to go.

Is Shadowrun really that bad?
Over the internet, doubly so in 4chan, things exist in binary: either something's your favorite thing ever, or it's shit. If you break free of that for a moment, though, Shadowrun's just sort of all right: not the worst thing out there, but not the best thing either.
Its rules are a mess but not the worst or the messiest, and its setting is kind of imaginitive and cool but not the best or the fanciest. And the video game was one of the better ones to come out of Kickstarter, but it ain't Shovel Knight.
So overall Shadowrun's just sort of "Eh".
>>53276558
You are living in it.
You just don't realize it because you're living it out fom the viewpoint of a wageslave/SINner.
Of course, I'm exaggerating (we don't have magic or metahumans or other shit typical for Shadowrun, for one), but the gist of what I said above is completely true - the spirit of our century corresponds with Shadowrun entirely.
>>53276558
Go ask the shadowrun general?

Was giving Fighters three extra attacks a mistake? Because it's so powerful, WoTC is afraid to give their archetypes abilities that actually matter. This is why Purple Dragon Knight sucks.
Extra attacks beyond the first should have been Champion feature only.
>>53276216
Someone's feeling touchy.
>>53276216
Nah if anything they should have given Extra attack 1 to Rogues at lvl 11-ish and Extra attack 2 to all other martials at that level.
>>53276216
4 attacks is not the problem, 8 attacks with action surge and GWM on the other hand...
that said, i think it's somewhat fine, because you are sacrificing doing pretty much anything else to just getting more attacks and stuff.
if only champion gets 3~4 attacks, then buff third tier battle masters and EK accordingly.
