Are we cyberpunk yet?
Not here. Too much socialism welfare. We'll never be cyberpunk while that stands.
>>53423432
Well, seeing where America is headed it will not take long.
>>53423432
I'm pretty sure keeping 320 millions people just happy enough that they don't just come out and kill the 4 millions on top is part of cyberpunk.
Posted a few days ago about DMing for the first time ( >>53383774 ) Session happened tonight, posting results below.
"Our adventures began their campaign today in the town of Knox, a fishing village on a small peninsula. Responding to a vague posting in several towns throughout the central and southern provinces of Conti island, the characters unwittingly gathered at the first of several trials of morality, karma, and fortitude. Arriving a day early for the posted contacts briefing, four strangers come across a chance to make some money by tackling a local bounty the night before the big day. The target is a Peryton, a large beast having the tail of a lion, the body wings a claws of a massive buzzard and the rotting head of an elk.
On their way to the suspected beach cave lair of the beast they inspect the abandoned house and barn of the property on which the Peryton has staked a claim. In the barn they find cow and horse carcasses being fed on by skull spiders but the real discovery is an evil doll in the house. It seems the evil doll being possessed by a fiend had drawn in the darkness and driven the fishing family mad before something eat away the livestock. The carrion naturally attracted the Peryton which the nearby village blamed for the whole mess. As the adventurers clear the home and search the property a idea forms on how to dispatch the Peryton.
It is late in the evening as they descend into the cave with items found around the deserted fishers home and barn. The beast is nocturnal and cruises its territory at night, so they find a mostly empty nest, occupied only by a pair of eggs, with piles of gore and bones further into th cave. The tunnel ends in a salt water pool connecting into the ocean. The last pile of rotting meat is as large as a carriage and is oozing fluids into the water. It is here the adventurers lay their trap. Using nets, weights and pulleys from the barn they fashion a drop trap to prevent the Peryton from flying, grounding it and giving them time to kill it low risk.
You! Yes you, anon! Have been chosen to save the world! A force that you possibly cannot imagine granted you an ability, and it's up to you to use it to complete the task!

I think it's not my job to save the world.
http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Power_Reversal
I suppose that depends on how common powers are, and whether or not inverting the powers of certain individuals would be helpful? Seems situational but potentially insane?

Whats wrong with this show?
I've got an invite to jump in with a DND game soon, I've had zero experience in ttrpgs, and all these guys are also first timers having been playing about six months. Their experience prior to this was based entirely on watching critical role. As a guy with no history in dnd, can you explain why is there so much distain for this show?
It's a pretty broad mix of things.
Some people just don't enjoy the type of game they play, the comedy focused and jovial sort rather than really getting immersed in the game.
Others are annoyed that it's acting as a flagship for the hobby, disliking the impression it gives people of what roleplaying 'should' be.
And some people just hate it because its popular and its bringing 'normies' into their super secret club.
Personally I don't find it particularly offensive, but I've never really enjoyed watching people roleplay, regardless of who it is or what style they're using.
It's scripted. It's like the pro-wrestling of RPGs.
It might be what you enjoy, but don't take it as an example of a good organic roleplaying game.
>>53417476
Sets an unrealistic expectation of what every game will be. Also people often forget they are using a heavily modified version since they ported from PF.
Couple that with perpetuating the nat 20 meme and most of the characters being bland because their voice actors aren't the greatest at the game and you have a recipe for hate.
The first character you ever made is now in the same setting as the last movie you saw, and the system you are going to use is the last rpg system you played in.

Guy sounds like a dick. Find better friends.
>>53409125
To be fair, this happened a while ago, and the guy in question apologized for it later
>Be alternating GM in my group, other GM is named Ian
>Ian is an absolute genius. Much better sort of GM than I am, and for the record, I think I'm a good GM, better than the average by a fair amount.
>But Ian's amazing, and in all honesty, I can't worldbuild or create NPCs that people care about the way he does; his campaigns were mostly walking through emotional blenders, he got you to really love some people and really hate others.
>But he would be subject to burnout, and needed a lot of time to plan games, so I wound up taking up my own campaigns, usually alternating with is.
>Running my own campaign
>Do a very different style to Ian, because I know I can't match him in his own game.
>Hey anon, why can't you make your games more like Ian's? They're way better than yours.
T-thanks.

Man, this hurt to read
That sounds like shit, I'm kinda same with someone else where I started, and I tried to do the same, but luckily mine caught on well with other players as well, and yeah
I'm sorry anon
What would be the best system to do a Darksiders tabletop? Some ideas I had was Scion, Exalted, maybe Rifts. Especially if the players are Horsemen or something similar I want them to feel powerful but still have growth.
>>53395230
Could any d20 system like Mutants and Masterminds work?
>>53395643
That's unfair, M&M would work almost with everything
>>53395230
I think you could also try Godbound. I've heard it is pretty satisfying.
Just post pictures of monsters, interesting characters or whatever else that could inspire and spark the imagination of others.

How do we refresh the concept of Ancient aliens?
Make them be humans perhaps?
>The party sees an ancient shinto-esque temple upon the peak of olympus mons
>>53374415
>humans are actually ancient aliens
God no, that's the only *twist* more overdone than ancient aliens in general.
There's usually an implication that ancient aliens have influenced ancient human cultures in a big way, but not in this setting. They were just explorers who came and went to investigate some other weirdness and didn't care about humans one way or the other.

Deathrite Shaman. It's not that the card is overly powerful, it's that it homogenizes a large swathe of the decks in the format to a point that when you opponent goes Underground Sea/Trop -> Deathrite you can often name +75% of the cards in their deck. DRS and the decks it facilitates are boring to play against, they are literally the most milquetoast deck to play in the format.
