TL/DR, if you can't handle guns in fantasy settings, you shouldn't be a DM.

Both would be literally useless against the Shrike, which exists outside of time in the conventional sense and eats up entire armies in a setting where you have small arms with better ranges than 40k battleships; and can blast through literal kilometers of solid rock on stray shots, and where backwater militias practice by shooting at targets on the moon from their planet. You did a WONDERFUL job of illustrating my point, namely that 40k fans have no sense of what else is out there in sci-fi.

Traveller is a classic science fiction system first released in 1977. In its original release it was a general purpose SF system, but a setting was soon developed called The Third Imperium, based on classic space opera tropes of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, with a slight noir tint.
Though it can support a wide range of game types, the classic campaign involves a group of retired veterans tooling around in a spaceship, taking whatever jobs they can find in a desperate bid to stay in business, a la Firefly or Cowboy Bebop.

Let's brainstorm a space opera setting /tg/
>Faster than light travel depends on fixed hyperspace lanes. This means, certain portions of space cannot be navigated, hyperlane traffic is a problem for systems that only have one hyperspace lane leading to and from them and gravitational distortions (like black holes) in the path of a hyperspace lane can cause delays because they make travel slower. Additionally there are hyperspace lanes that are kept secret either for military purposes or by pirates/privateers.

So if Enterprise is non-canon to the prime timeline, JJTrek is ENT's sequel, and Discovery is a prequel series to JJTrek, are we completely clear of retcon territory since Threshold?

You can cast these spells without having the Speak Arcane Language skill. However, you must roll an extra d10 when casting one of these spells. I'm confused about the 'learn any spell from an arcane lore' bit. Does that mean that when using the Witchcraft talent, can I only learn spells from a single lore since it says 'an' instead of 'any'?
