Live televised darts returns to our screens for the first time since July as the top eight players in the world compete in the Champions League of Darts. This is of course the second year of the BBC airing proper arrows and not the shambles of the BDO.
Last year, the Prowler Phil Taylor claimed the title with an 11-5 humping of paint drinker Michael van Gerwen in the final and will want to inflict a similar humiliation to >16-6 this time around. There are also three new faces in the competition as St. Helens dunce Dave Chisnall, everyone's favourite unorthodox Serbo-Austrian Mensur Suljovic and lazy Dutchman Raymond van Barneveld replace the collapsing James Wade, the imploding Robert Thornton and the petulant Michael Smith.
The format remains the same as last time: two groups of four, with the winners and losers of this afternoon's games playing each other in the evening session. Wide-open Group B starts things off as midlife crisis clown Peter Wright faces Chizzy, while gameraising Gary Anderson plays Mensur, with the deadly Group A following as the Stoke ferry obsessives derby has Pheel up against new dad Adrian Lewis, while another new dad in MVG faces compatriot Barney in the final match of the afternoon.
Coverage starts from 1:15pm UK time on BBC One, with evening coverage from 6:45pm on BBC Two.
Today's fixtures (all best of 19 legs [first to 10]):
>Afternoon session (1:15pm - 4:30pm)
Snakeshite v Chizzy (Group B)
Gary "Big Game Counter" Anderson v CAN'T CENSOR THE MENSUR (Group B)
Taylel v SnackP&Ot (Group A)
MvGOAuTism v Barney (Group A)
>Evening session (6:45pm - 10:15pm)
Winners in each group play each other, losers in each group play each other.

Lets hope for some more top quality meme material this year
TAYLORWINSLOL
/180/ has of course been off since Pheel won Matchplay title 16 on D16, and with MVG off for the entirety of August because of pic related, it opened up the field for title winners.
Kyle Anderson started off that month by claiming his first PDC ranking title with a 6-2 defeat of Kevin Painter in Players Championship 14, with Dim Dave claiming his first title of the year the next day in PC15, coming out on top in a last leg decider against World Grand Prix debutant Richard North.
Abbo Anderson followed up his Players Champs success with a maiden TV title in the World Series of Darts, defeating Corey Cadby in the first all-qualifier WSoD final at the Auckland Masters. Taylor claimed the inaugural Sydney Masters event by beating Clownman, but then suffered only his second defeat in Australia with Barney eliminating him in Perth; RVB however couldn't convert this and lost to Gando in the final.
As August became September, MVGWINSLOL reared its head again with two brutalising displays on the European Tour. The World Number 1 brushed aside Steve Beaton in Maastricht to claim his fourth straight Dutch Darts Masters title, only dropping 10 legs in the tournament (and five of those were to Daryl Gurney). Van Autism then threw a terrifying 111 dead average in the German Darts Grand Prix final last Sunday to put away Rob Cross, who finally has a nickname (albeit a really shit one) of "Voltage".
But the best news of the month came from Japan, where infamous Lakeside pisshead Seigo Asada confirmed his debut at Ally Pally: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdThU66DCBA
This weekend will also be the last time we see Pheel on TV until November, as he has withdrawn from the World Grand Prix in Dublin: https://www.pdc.tv/news/2017/09/11/2017-unibet-world-grand-prix-field
This isn't really that much of a surprise given his recent woeful record at the Citywest, but it has given Robert Thornton some sort of lifeline as he wouldn't have been playing in the tournament.
As pic related indicates, the Prowler will be having a much more worthwhile time entertaining pissheads on the Hull to Rotterdam ferry while playing a burns victim.
Aww yiss we're fucking back again. I've missed you lads.

I watched the German Darts GP as well. MVG was unbeatable there. But, damn, Rob Cross was impressive as fuck. If he can keep this level (100+ tournament average before the final), I can see him winning some more tournaments and being a top 16 player.

>>78292109
Asstit answered the question on behalf of the Beeb: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-41255895
>Phil has done this for years. He sometimes gives it to a player that he competes against as a memento of the match. That usually happens in World Series darts around the world, but most of the time he gives it to someone in the crowd with a set of his match darts. To his credit, he does tend to give the board to children if at all possible.

AUTISM CURED ONCE AGAIN
good game, kid
And that D12 ends an exciting opening session that saw the World's top two suffer big defeats.
Peter Wright kicked off his Champions League campaign with a fairly routine victory over Dave Chisnall. Clownman took the first leg in 11 darts before Chizzy hit his match high out of 96. Wright then claimed the next three legs before dim Dave took the next two but missed a dart at tops to tie the match up. Wright hit 110 to go 6-3 and only lost two more legs as the Yellow Peril's scoring couldn't keep up.
Mensur Suljovic inflicted a damaging 10-3 thrashing on Gary Anderson, demonstrating yet again the Scot's inability to play slower opposition. The Gentle went 6-0 ahead as the Flying Scotsman couldn't concentrate, with a match average of 96 proof. Gando managed to win three of the next four legs but won no more as the Austrian delivered a crushing 157 in the penultimate leg.
Phil Taylor continued his CL success story with a big fightback from 7-5 down against fellow Stokie Adrian Lewis. Jackpot kicked off with a 140 out but Taylor went ahead with a 120 Shanghai and 103 before the Fat Man won three straight and then hit a 104 to go 6-4 up. Pheel tied the game at 7-7 with a 117 before the big moment in leg 17: Aidey trying 25-D18 to end a 121 saw him fail and Pheel slammed a 129 on the bull to all but end it.
Michael van Gerwen suffered his second TV defeat in a row with an inspired Raymond van Barneveld tasting success over his countryman once again. Averaging just 97, MVG didn't look comfortable at all, less so when RVB hit a 120 Shanghai of his own for 3-1 and then a huge 136 for 5-2. MVG blew three at tops for 6-4 and after a 130 on the bull for Barney to go 8-4 up, there was only going to be one winner, and it weren't Paint Boy.
We return in 2 hours with the winners against the losers. See you then.
Your one hour warning, and this evening's order of play:
>Gary Anderson v Dave Chisnall
>Peter Wright v Mensur Suljovic
>Phil Taylor v Raymond van Barneveld
>Michael van Gerwen v Adrian Lewis

>>78300593
Yep.
>Pheel: +7
>MVG & Barney: +1
If we go to the extremes and say MVG & Barney win 10-0, it'd be Pheel -3 and MVG & Barney on +11
And so the first half of the Champions League of Darts ends with just one player definitely through, but it's not who you would have expected.
That man is not Dave Chisnall, who once again choked in a doubles missathon with Gary Anderson. There were 40 missed checkouts in the match and 11 180s between the pair; the only real big moment was the winning finish as the Scot whacked in a 124 on the bull to send Dim Dave packing. Again, this was another performance that demonstrated why Chisnall will never challenge for a major, with 20 missed finishing attempts.
The confirmed qualifier is surprise package Mensur Suljovic, who defeated Peter Wright in an incredibly tense tussle. A high-scoring Gentle threw in 10 180s and hit a 103 average with Wright averaging 99 himself. Mensur hit 105 to go 3-2 ahead after winning two of the previous three, didn't lose the lead until a sensational 144 from Clownman when the Austrian was on 39 for 9-6 stunned him and lost the next leg. However, Suljovic hit back with a bull start 82 and then claimed the next leg to make it through.
Phil Taylor claimed another win over Raymond van Barneveld in what was a decent match despite the low 92 averages for the pair. The first eight legs went with throw, Pheel winning the eighth with a 120 Shanghai, before breaking in the ninth. Bar a massive botch from Ray to take the 12th for 6-6 where he missed four and bust the fifth, Pheel was rarely troubled after the break as Barney surrendered.
Michael van Gerwen didn't average 3 figures but it was more than enough to defeat a woeful Adrian Lewis who averaged just 85. Snackpot did hit a 170 for his first leg but didn't challenge afterwards, only getting 7 darts at a finish. MVG's high out was a 114 in leg 8.
We return tomorrow with the final group games and the knockout phase:
>Dave Chisnall v Mensur Suljovic
>Gary Anderson v Peter Wright
>Adrian Lewis v Raymond van Barneveld
>Michael van Gerwen v Phil Taylor
See you then.
>>78301317
