I genuinely don't get the hate for the proposed draft reform.

It's a relatively minor change to the system that solves a major issue in the NBA, which is teams actively tanking by fielding utterly uncompetitive teams, which is bad for business. The NBA needs to do something to stop 2-3 teams proactively tanking every year. If the incentive to tank isn't quite so big, and the disincentive is smaller, then fewer teams will do it. The benefits - a good draft pick - stop outweighing the losses - reduced ticket revenue, reduced TV ratings, killing FA appeal etc.

It will hurt legit bad teams in the short-term, but it will remove the "treadmill of mediocrity" that a lot of small teams get into, as they feel the need to try to be competitive but never get fucking anywhere and they're stuck with shitty draft picks and few opportunities to improve via FA or the draft.

And it's doubly bad for the NBA business when it's these big-market big-name teams bottoming out, like the Lakers, Sixers and the Knicks. They're the teams that can afford to deliberately suck to grab a Ball or Porzingis or Embiid, but it's undoubtedly bad for the NBA business as a whole when they're the three biggest markets in the US.

Since everyone is making biased, unpopular opinions, I'll make one too. Russell Westbrook will average 28, 9, and 10 finishing 4th in the MVP race. Paul George will go off, averaging 26, 8, and 4. The Thunder will claim the 3rd seed behind the Warriors and Spurs finishing with a 55-27 record. They will take care of the Blazers in round one in 4, upset the Spurs in 6, and most surprisingly beat the Warriors in 7. They will make it to the Finals and play the Celtics, led by Gordon Hayward and Kyrie Irving. Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum also have great seasons. The Celtics win the first 2, the the Thunder win the next 2. With the series tied at 2, the Celtics blow out the Thunder the next game. In Game 6, the Thunder make a remarkable comeback. Down 117-98 with 6 minutes left, Westbrook scores 65 for the game and leads an amazing double OT comeback. In Game 7, the Thunder take care of business, en route to their first NBA championship.

NEXT BOLD PREDICTION: The Pelicans will get the 7th seed and be one of the most exciting teams to watch. Timberwolves will get the 5th seed led by Wiggins, Towns, and Butler.

LAST BOLD PREDICTION: Lebron James will go down with a season ending injury, and Isaiah Thomas can't come back from his hip injury. After having neither in the regular season, the Cavs only claim the 7th seed, before being knocked out by the Wizards in the first round.

I don't think Curry took that much lesser of a role. He did take less shots but it's still fundamentally his team. He gave Durant a lot of rope, especially early in the year, but by the end of the season it was spiritually run by Curry even if Durant was their actual best player. Curry is the motive force of everything that Golden State does, and their whole approach to ball movement and shooting and playing offense.
