BREAKING: Calvin Johnson considering retirement.

Barry Sanders 2.0?
Goodbye Megatron?

>>
I hope he can at least finish his contract. This shit is so gay losing Suh and Calvin in a matter of 2 off-seasons. Better get a good GM or this team will be the SOL for a much much longer period of time.
>>
It is very possible too. He has an engineering degree and has enough money to live off for the rest of his life and he is still in good physical shape

>p-pls don't go Calvin
>>
lions fan here. he has certainly earned the right to do whatever the fuck he wants to do. I hope the lions release/trade him so he can at least experience playing for a team that isn't total shit
>>
It's so weird, it feels like he's been in the league for a long time, but at the same time, it doesn't.
>>
He should at least go to a contender for a year or two.
>>
>>64721964

It's because he didn't become a considered threat until 2010, yet he's been in the league since 2008.

Thing is, WRs like him can play until 37-28 easily.

He won't. It's not like concussions are a concern for him.

Lions will always be shit because nobody good wants to coach them. Take a gander at all their head coaches since the 50's. At this point it's not even the ownership fault, it's just being shit for so long has left them as a permanently shit team.
>>
>>64722058

I'll explain it for you meme gif..

By considered threat, I mean that he went through the rookie and sophomore years without any big issues.

I guess established would be the better word.

The Scooter has unleashed the beast. If he stays next season the NFL better prepare it's anus. Stafford was a top 3 QB in the second half of the season.

>not being incompetent makes you good

look, I'm sure he's a decent playcaller, but Lombardi was so woefully misusing your (pretty much stacked) offense that petty much anyone would have been an improvement

i expect the lions will have a tad rougher go when the league gameplans for what amounts to a pretty vanilla offense

How can one city be so efficient at killing GOATs?

First Sanders and now Megatron. Is there a worse place to play?
>>
>>64722721
If he's smart he wouldn't retire and take his millions
>>
>>64722751
Sure, he has to workout and study, but in terms of actually playing and getting hit, it's a few months, he'll suck it up for the paycheck.
>>

>>
>>64722751
Basketball players are the worst offenders. So many shitty players who can't shoot or score, but they only need to look the part and play well in a contract year.
>>
The problem is that megatron is so good that he's double and triple covered all the time, and that hurts.
>>
>>64722874
>cleveland and detroit winning championships

This pre merger era sounds like a magical place.
>>
Lions move to Toronto when?
>>
Would love to see Megatron play somewhere that wasn't a dumpster fire if only for a season.

Of course that's what I thought about Andre Johnson going to the Colts when they had just been the AFCCG and look how that turned out.
>>
>>64722713
Well if they get a good GM who can beef up the Oline then I think Cooter will be great at OC. Some of the plays they've ran this season were pretty genius. It's a big reason Riddick just broke the franchise record for reception from a running back. When used correctly the Lions offense is pretty hard to stop with all the vertical threats down the field and guys like Riddick and Tate developing routes down low.
>>
>>64722991
Riddick has improved a ton, he's gonna fun to watch.
>>
>Megatron "retires"
>spends whole year resting and working out like AD
>signs small contract with Pats
>breaks all of Moss' records
>19-0 with Megatron and Gronk, Edelman in slot.
>>
>>64722239
He'd become GOAT
>>
>>64721816
He will retire and then come back in a few years on a contender.
>>
>>64721816

The roster actually isn't that bad, they've had pretty decent team for a couple years now they just have had really bad coaching. Not just one Lombardi but Schwartz, Cunningham, Caldwell just to name a few. Before words are incapable of hiring management which is why the Lions are so bad. I honestly think with some good coaching it would be a playoff contender

*The Fords
>>
>>64722780
Is Detroit really that horrible?
I always thought those reports were exaggerated and it's just a few suburbs that are run down which could be easily avoided if you live there.
>>
>>64724088
7 championships in the last 26 -27 years. Not elite, but not Cleveland tier by any means.
>>
>>64725036
Yes, the entire city is utter shit outside of downtown. You'll notice that a lot of those desolate neighborhoods you see in the ruin porn are pretty big and look like they might've been nice in the past. Those used to be the suburbs, but white people noped the fuck out and built new suburbs outside the city limits. That being said, professional athletes make enough money not to have to live in the ghetto of Detroit. He was speaking more about the general culture of misery and failure that surrounds the Lions. It's not the same for our other pro teams.
>>
>>64725036
It used to be that horrible but its been making a come back the past few years. There are nice parts of Detroit but there are still a lot of super ghetto areas as well. They are spending a lot of time and money on the sporting district right now and it will make downtown look way better when they are done. Half of Detroit used to be abandoned pretty much but they have been tearing a lot of that down and replacing it with farm land. I think the building in general need to be cleaned...a lot of super old architecture in Detroit that isnt being properly taken care of.
>>
>>64725322
Every single building that's not downtown should be destroyed. Give all of the darkies a plane ticket to Turkey to join the refugees on their way to Europe. Boom. Detroit is saved and will rise like a Phoenix from the ashes.

Did you see what happened with Randy Moss?

Im just saying.
>>
>>64725512
Uhh..maybe you didn't hear, but Moss retired without a ring...
>>
>>64725462
Well there is still a lot to be done but they actually are moving families to different areas so they can destroy entire neighborhoods. Some people were upset about it but comeon what the fuck are we supposed to do? Shit has to come down if Detroit is gonna make any kind of step forward. Should help create more jobs as well
>>
>>64722058
>>64722111
>>64722148
Dude you're a fucking retard. As a Lions fan who has watched almost every single game of Calvin's career that guy is completely right. He was a great prospect, but he wasn't a premiere wideout in the league until about 2010. He was good, but he wasn't even close to being one of the first guys you thought of when someone said "best receivers in the league"
>>
Maybe this won't be the worst thing in the world for the Lions. Last season Calvin Johnson suffered a really bad ankle injury and was out for like four games. I think there was some pretty decent teams within that stretch but the Lions were undefeated the entire time. We all know that sometimes Stafford forces the ball to Calvin when he gets confused or scared on a third down situation. I think that when Calvin is out of the game Stafford is forced to think smarter and best to my knowledge we've done pretty damn good while Calvin Johnson was sitting out with an injury. I'm not discrediting Calvin Johnson at all, I just think that if we were to get another good receiver opposite of Tate and beef up the Oline that the Lions offense might be OK.

The police literally ignore major residential areas because the crime is so bad. 91% of homicides are unsolved. Entire suburbs are ghost towns with abandoned homes. Anyone who could leave, left when the city went bankrupt, many of them before then even. The old stadium is just a decaying garbage heap because nobody even wanted to waste money demolishing it.

You get the picture.
>>
>>64725512
>Edelman and Megatron the next Welker and Moss

HHNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

too good to be true
>>
>>64725774
M8 the silverdome isn't even in Detroit.
>>
>>64725683
I mean, Tate went on a tear but for like 2 of those games they had to pull off miracle comebacks, and that was with the defense being pretty much elite. I'm torn on what the Lions should do. On the one hand, it seems like I've seen this show before. They gives us some hope and then fuck up again, and part of me wants to tear it down and start again...again. On the other hand, I want to see if this offense has finally turned the light on and can carry it for a whole season, and Tron obviously would be a big help with that. I think he's honestly just worn down. He's been beat to shit since 2011. I don't think he retires but I also don't think he has the will to keep playing in Detroit. Would be nice if I could have faith that the management would put the saved cap space from him and Suh to good use but who knows what chucklefuck Martha might hire. I guess we'll all just have to sit pat and wait and see. We've seen the bottom of bottoms already. We can live through whatever this team throws at us and maybe we'll get lucky enough to see something great.
>>
>>64722786
He already has millions. Maybe he doesn't want to risk getting a broken neck
>>
>>64725544
