Alonso is definitely overrated, but I'd say Hakkinen is the opposite of that. His lack of motivation at the start of 2000 is probably the only thing that makes other god tier drivers stand up to him. His natural talent eclipses that of any other driver in history, including MSC (who was heavily carried by his unbelievable work ethic, leadership and determination), Senna and Prost.

That depends on the car. Alonso has a pretty definitive case of Fisichellitis, but unlike Schumacher (who was similarly exposed in 1999 when Irvine, in a very easy to drive Ferrari, was very close to him in the championship before he broke his legs), his natural pace is not that good. What carries the likes of him and Ricciardo is his ability to adapt and make cars with issues work, but he's easily beaten by Vettel and Hamilton in a tier 1 car.

As for your point about Alonso/Ricciardo, I agree with you that it is their adaptability which makes them so highly rated, arguably very justifiably. While I agree that Vettel and possibly Lewis (hard to tell since the only stat you can reference is 2007, which was 5-4 in quali to Lewis, in his rookie year) would beat Fernando/Ricciardo over one lap, I don't know if they would over a race distance. Their adaptability (see: Alonso, Schumacher, Prost) tends to make them better racers overall.

He immediately possessed all the characteristics of a world champion, and that's down to talent.

But as you say, it was his incredible work-rate a drive that made him as successful as he was. I'd argue that Alesi could be considered one of the most talented F1 drivers of all time but he didn't have the drive to perfect himself and rally his team around him. He tried hard, no doubt, but he didn't try MSC hard.

I don't think Clark is overrated in general.

It's true. Lewis is not a ruthless competitor that, for example:
-Insists that the contracts of himself and his teammate explicitly reflect that he is #1 driver
-Runs into competitors on track on purpose to disable their cars and grant him the win
-Parks his car during qualifying to prevent further times to be set

To be fair, Hamilton's only competition for all his championships has been his own teammate and he's mentally stronger than Rosberg. But it's not written into his contract that he gets #1 treatment. He just drives better than his teammate, fair and square.

You can't really use that as an argument as no one outside of FOM has ever received full radio transcripts from any race, ever. They control the radio and for all we know Pastor swears at his engineers but they don't broadcast it because in his accent it would make children cry and he pays FOM off to not broadcast them.

I have no problem with people loving Senna. I love Senna. But people act as though he's the indisputable GOAT or choose to ignore certain parts of his career.

I also hate people that dislike him purely for this, or claim he's only rated because he was killed. He would be remembered just as fondly as he is today, and would probably hold way more records than he does. Just not by as many people and especially not by as many casual F1 fans who have never seen Senna actually in a race.
