When people talk about different races, do you they mean different ethnicities, or different species?
It depends on how you define species, and the scientific community is inconsistent on this.
For instance, they call the Coyote and the Wolf different species even though they can breed together.
All taxonomic groups are essentially arbitrary. None are valid or invalid, they are basically just ways of organising/grouping multiple individuals to make patterns more easily understood.
