why aren't you an astronaut yet

>baaah it's too hard

these are the requirements on the official website
>>
Applications doesn't mean they will send you to pluto right away. If you had even a tiny bit of surgery that can cause a health risk, or any condition that can even remotely cause you to risk the health or lives of the crew members, they will disqualify you immediately.
>>
>>7641502
I'm not an american
>>
>>7641502
I actually don't want to be an astronaut and don't even know why people would want to be one. I might fail to see the appeal. Or it's just an american meme that survived the "end" of the cold war.
>>
>>7641502
australia's space program was gutted in order to fund operation stop the boats
>>
>>7641515
its incredibly interesting and comes with absurd amounts of money and prestige

nothing to do with the cold war you shmuck
>>
Because I'm claustrophobic and don't enjoy the thought of being closed in a metal box for a year
>>
>>7641502
Because I won't pass the physical.

Otherwise I'd gladly be a black astronaut, filming space porn during off duty hours and making the first words uttered on Mars be "Earth is better t.b.h f.a.m"
>>
>>7641517
Ok.
I think I know of better ways to make money and don't care about prestige.
But thanks for trying to explain to a "shmuck" like me.
>>
>>7641502
>>7641509
Well I'm fucked. I had five surgeries in my life. Also you need to have great vital readings. The medical testing they do to astronauts is very, very through. They find the smallest things in your body and discover illness and defects you didn't know you had inside of your body. Also the last part said you need to pass a physical. Which means 90% of STEM folk will fail. Have you seen how many obese people are in those fields?
>>
>>7641525
bye now reddit
>>
>>7641529
not a redditor. Stop trying to validate your opinions and getting mad when other people don't care as much. You want to be an astronaut? Fine, go be a winner. I don't give a fuck and would rather create companies.
>>
>>7641502
Because I want money.
>>
>>7641533
>Stop trying to validate your opinions and getting mad when other people don't care as much
the irony is sickening

figures that someone with no ambition would ask a dumbfuck question like why would anyone want to be an astronaut
>>
>>7641536
0/10
you're trying too hard and are not even talented at it.
>>
>>7641537
>le troll meme
bye now reddit
>>
Two reasons.

>1
I'm not an American and I would never want to be one.

>2
>>7641509
If this is true I'd probably get disqualified for being asthmatic. I'm an athlete and have great vitals and unless their test is beyond the SF entry test in my country I shouldn't have trouble passing it but my history of asthma would probably disqualify me like it did for the military.
>>
>>7641502
I could maybe do it (unless a twisted testicle disqualifies you)

Does NASA allow foreign astronauts though?
>>
>>7641538
>bye now reddit
you mean "shit I can't explain my irrational goals, pls leave now before you embarass me more than you already did"
>>

>B.Sc. in STEM

So having actually been to the NASA site multiple times (I wanted to be an astronaut as a kid) and checking their requirements instead of trusting some shit-tier infograph bait on /sci/ I can say the following:

NASA wants you to have at least an M.Sc. in specific range of STEM fields (Computer Science isnt going to hack it, sorry), very preferably a PhD, and even more preferably have expertise in MULTIPLE fields. If you have flight experience (commercial but preferably military) you can get away with less STEM education, but you still need a B.Sc. in one of the relevant fields.

You are advised that if you just meet the minimum requirements, you will be competing against people from all over the world who exceed them, and will have far less chance of becoming an astronaut.
>>
>>7641548
funny how that same response applies to your ebin trole post

the only embarrassing one here is you
>>
>>7641502
>Implying you are an astronaut
>>
>>7641516
is there even anything properly funded in Australian science? Anti-boat science for instance?
>>
>>7641516
Actually it was gutted to support the net financial loss caused by third world immigration. Interesting times we live in, that's for sure.
>>
>>7641553
Yeah this, you need at least a postgrad physics degree, but preferably engineering which as we all know is what is actually meant by "STEM" anyway. I see M.Sc. the most often as the "minimum" though I don't think there is any official minimum to applying. Rounded experience and formal education in multiple fields is preferred over niche research experience too.
>>
>>7641502
1) I'm not even close to being smart enough to be selected.
2) I'm way too lazy, both for doing all the studying required and to do the actual work.
3) I don't have any aviation experience.
4) My physical health comes short.
5) My passions lay elsewhere.
6) When in space I wouldn't be able to cuddle with my gf.

Am I the only one wondering why we don't let them in to build us a railroad? The US did it years ago and it seemed to work pretty well, let's do the same. They can be cheap labour (see: free in return for being let in) for building us hide speed rail between the cities
>>
>>7641595
>free in return for being let in
there is literally no benefit to being in America if you don't get money. You people don't even have benefits of any kind.
>>
>>7641608
No one said anything about America, get your head out of their arse.
>>
>>7641502
i avoid "professional experience"
mainly because I'm not really professional
>>
>>7641502
Fuck NASA, I'm going to fly myself into space.
Forget Mars, I'm landing on the sun.
Bring sunglasses, niggers.
>>
>>7641579
You need a PhD in bio as well. They want the bio folks. Engineering is not a top priority for NASA astronaut corps. They are usually glorified mechanics in the ISS. They want research scientists.
>>
but im 6'7
>>
>>7641502
I don't really want to be an astronaut, what the fuck am I gonna even do?
>>
>>7641502
>baaah it's too hard
>these are the requirements on the official website
you say this like it's everyones dream to become an astronaut.
staying for months or years in a tiny box orbiting the earth seems like a shitty job.
>but anon the view is like CRAZY
neato m8
>>
>>7641563
you seem very ambitious on your quest to show everyone that being an astronaut is the best job ever

might I ask why? I'm genuinely curious
>>
>Why didn't you get degree at Stanford?
>The only requirement is a highschool diploma or GED equivalent
