if mod n | 0 then

is this a typo? what is that | operator meant to mean there

>what is that | operator meant to mean there

In C | is the bitwise OR operator.

That said, that thing overall doesn't make sense. C doesn't have gay keywords. The modulus operator is simply %

I didn't know who else to ask so I'm hoping someone can give me some guidance here.
I have a test on Thursday and I'm doing practice papers, how do I do this question? I'm used to doing Gauss Jordan elimination WITH pivoting but not without.
The way I do it is usually row 1 - row 2, is it possible to just straight up take an element and subtract a value in general or does it always have to be row - row?
This is the question if anyone is willing to tell me how retarded I am

>is it possible to just straight up take an element and subtract a value

I don't know. Try to prove that "substracting a value" preserves the row space of a matrix and then call me when you find that it is contradictory or you found a dead end.
>>
>>8592822
what? I mean as in can I take the first element of row 2 and subtract 0.00038 from it to give me 0 or is that not how it works?

I am no brainlet so I always answer everything but I hate that every time I walk out of a test my brain just keeps thinking about my solutions and then what sucks is when I actually find a mistake in my test after I am already out.

It feels retarded. Why am I even thinking about the test when I can no longer change anything? Fuck. I wish there were drugs that could help with this.
>>
The smartest people are the ones than can think deeply but also can think superficially. They switch their way of thinking according to the situation. You seem to be pretty smart, but not so much as the brainlets (you claim to be brainlets) who actually solve the problem faster than you. Maybe they are capable of thinking deep, but they chose not to because they had to be quick.

This is more of a problem of educational structure itself.
Exams are totally pointless and serve no greater purpose other than to meaninglessly drive people away from achievement.
Just look at the SAT, this determines you ability to get into certain schools.
You can know how to solve every problem on the SAT yet get a poor score due to the time limit.
In fact every SAT study guide, guide book, stagey book, etc advises test takes to skip hard questions and instructs test takes on how to identify hard problems and easy problems. I ask, what is the purpose of a time limit? Is the SAT (or any timed exam) supposed to measure your ability to solve the problems presented or your ability to answer easy question within a time limit?
Equal weighted questions
Time limits
Variable weighted questions
Why? It makes no sense as it truly doesn't measure ones ability to solve problems

from what i'm gathering i would just use the rule of sums and coefficients to isolate and then replace i with the sum of squares, but i can't seem to find an approach to getting n to cancel out and give my limit meaning. am i goofing?
36 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
>>8592517
you goofed in that you replaced delta x with 2+3/n.
x_i also isnt 2+3/n but 2+3i/n.
>>
>>8592542
delta x is 3/n.
x_i is 2 + 3 i /n
plug those into the sum, get sum sums of square... you just need the formula for sum i^2 and sum i.

Hey /sci/ I've come across 11grams of white truffles aka tubar magnatim from Piedmont. Now I've got a control group of 1 gram set aside but can anyone think of fun experiments to do with the other 10grams? I was thinking of feeezing a few and seeing how long their aromatic potency prevails or deep frying some and seeing what happens. Maybe combining it with something sweet and un traditional? Perhaps truffle vodka?
Give me all your thoughts and suggestions please.

I am to write an assignment, which needs to be a fusion of maths and physics. I was thinking about complex numbers in physics, but after reading up on complex numbers, what can complex numbers achieve in physics?

Complex numbers are useful in math modeling. You model math in physics.

Example: optics and qm.

>When I look at the history of mathematics, I see a succession of illogical jumps, improbable coincidences, jokes of nature. One of the most profound jokes of nature is the square root of minus one that the physicist Erwin Schrödinger put into his wave equation when he invented wave mechanics in 1926. Starting from wave optics as a model, he wrote down a differential equation for a mechanical particle, but the equation made no sense. The equation looked like the equation of conduction of heat in a continuous medium. Heat conduction has no visible relevance to particle mechanics. Schrödinger’s idea seemed to be going nowhere. But then came the surprise. Schrödinger put the square root of minus one into the equation, and suddenly it made sense. Suddenly it became a wave equation instead of a heat conduction equation. And Schrödinger found to his delight that the equation has solutions corresponding to the quantized orbits in the Bohr model of the atom.

>It turns out that the Schrödinger equation describes correctly everything we know about the behavior of atoms. It is the basis of all of chemistry and most of physics. And that square root of minus one means that nature works with complex numbers and not with real numbers.

>All through the nineteenth century, mathematicians from Abel to Riemann and Weierstrass had been creating a magnificent theory of functions of complex variables. They had discovered that the theory of functions became far deeper and more powerful when it was extended from real to complex numbers. But they always thought of complex numbers as an artificial construction, invented by human mathematicians as a useful and elegant abstraction from real life. It never entered their heads that this artificial number system that they had invented was in fact the ground on which atoms move. They never imagined that nature had got there first.

In optics the imaginary part of a wave describes the phase.

The imaginary part of a material's refractive index describes absorption.

What's the fastest speed a rod in space could spin on itself? Would a man standing on said rod perceive any momentum?
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>8591608

Yes, he'd be flung off the rod by centripedal forces. As to how fast a rod can spin, it depends on the material the rod is made of, the size of the rod, whether it's in a vacuum, etc etc etc, but the "hard limit" is presumably some large fraction of c.

alright sci, im kinda smart. Or atleast good at making people think im smart. And im really Lazy. So i decided to stop being a "wage slave" and get into computer science, and i wanted to start by getting into computer programming, by taking some mit courses. But like alot of people, I get bored easy and do other shit and get distracted.

SO, i encountered some dude online who raves about "smart drugs" and their benefits. It got me interested, and his number 1 seems to be me Modafinil. I wanted some opinions on it, and maybe some recommended nootropics, since reddit is a bunch of fags.
