I've been interested in reading this book for some time and while searching for it on Amazon I've found out that some editions are really bad and remove some important parts.

Which ones are the best?

Why does /sci/ hate on practical degrees that can get you hired like comp sci and engineering while worshiping glorified liberal arts degrees like pure math.

I don't hate them. I think that everyone who is trained in a high level technical field deserves respect. The "hate" is just memes but it is also kinda their fault. The reason that they have become such punching bags is because of how retarded their mistakes sometimes are. Like sometimes people come here to ask really retarded questions about mathematics and then through asking you find out that the OP asking that shit was a CS or Engineering fag. It makes them easy punching bags.

Plus, lets not forget the TIMELESS memes. If anyone has the images of these memes pls post them for fun.

First, there is the CS guy who got a masters degree in CS but then when he went to get a job as a java dev was not able to solve a question that was in the style of a trivial coding challenge. He had to write a program that takes as input a number and then spits out like an X made of asterisks that was of length specified by the input number.

Then there is the engineering guy who came for drawing help, asking what the weird symbol with 2 marks meant. Also known as the cryptic '11'. People obviously answered that it is not a cryptic "two-mark" symbol, IT IS THE NUMBER ELEVEN. And then the fag showed the final product and we noticed he forgot a hole on the top of the drawing.

Good times. Those memes make them easy punching bags and you will just have to deal with it.

The thing I'm wondering is why everyone here calls engineers gay. Is there a disproportionate amount of homos in their profession?

Why aren't you getting a PhD in pharmacology, /sci/?

>5th highest-paying PhD, will probably rise higher after the field becomes undersaturated due to millennials falling for the "tech good, big pharma evil" meme
>save more lives than a physician while doing half the work
>interesting af field if you have even a slight interest in biology or chemistry (or physics if you want to specialize in pharmacokinetics)

Pic semi-related.

So, my plan is:
>1) Go to Japan.
>2) Become a researcher at one of their pretty awesome universities.
>3) Make friends with a Japanese QT, who is either a fellow researcher or student.
>4) Make sure she is smart as fuck before making your move.
>5) Once you're certain she is at least low-tier genius IQ, make your move.
>6) Be romantic, loving and confident..
>7) Once she is madly in love with you and you have been together for a few years plant the seed.
>8) Go back to step 6 and then repeat for a dynasty of intellectual hafus.
Now, I've heard that regression to the mean affects IQ, my IQ is in the highly advanced category of the Stanford–Binet scale.

Therefore, I would need to make sure she was at least within the very advanced category of the Stanford–Binet scale as to guarantee my progeny should be born with an IQ between the categories of very advanced or highly advanced.

Thoughts?

Are grades directly proportional to intelligence?
I used to score the highest school till middle school and then my grades gradually dropped towards the end of high school to the point I couldn't even get into college.
Did I just get dumber?
Does anyone here have any similar experience or any scientific explanation for what happened to me?

Smart but lazy meme, you were gifted but didn't really pay close attention so you didn't learn much. When you reached high school a combination of not being able to just not study or do anything killed you, not really know what you learned in middle school also was bad.

Help me /sci/, currently doing my MSc in laser spectroscopy and I feel retarded.

Little backstory, i smoked a fuck ton of weed in college (almost daily smoker) and somehow still got into MSc (best uni in my country).

Now I feel retarded, so i've quit the weed, but I wanna stop being a brainlet and be smart tier. What can I do to make up the gap?

Most of my work is research based, and I'm expected to write a thesis to graduate.

Give me tips to make my science education from here on out the best possible.

Everybody ready for today's record-setting orbital launch?

Japan will be launching the SS-520-4 at 23:48 UTC today, breaking their own record for smallest orbital launch vehicle, putting a 4kg micro-satellite into orbit using an adapted sounding rocket a mere 9.5 meters in length!

Pictured are the SS-520-4, Japan's previous record holder Lambda-4S, and the iconic V2 rocket.

How is this even remotely cost effective?
>>
>>8592488
Sometimes, you just need to put something in orbit, and it can be very small. You're not interested in price per kilogram, you're interested in price per launch, hitting the desired orbit, and when you can get it launched.

Piggybacking on a large rocket launch means no control over schedule or orbit. An affordable small rocket is highly desirable.

There's also the potential for low costs through economy of scale. Big, expensive rockets launch a few times per year, so their production isn't highly automated and involves a huge amount of costly touch labor and individual inspections. Small, affordable rockets might launch a few times per day and come off an assembly line, with quality control done through sampling.

I had a discussion today about cryptography with a friend and he said that 128bit RSA is "better" than RSA with 256 bit. The problem is that he didn't explain that to me... So I ask you guys can somebody explain it to me?

Friend he mentioned here btw.

I was referring to AES and using RSA keys with a length below 1024 is stupid anyways...

I'm die-hard anti-religion and anti-Creationism (an evolutionist if you will), I even minored in biology and worked in a genetics lab for a few years, but when I see stuff like this pic on the left I can't help but think that it looks like someone just fucking around with different configurations and seeing what works. Like someone took the basic human vertebrate animal template, and thought "ok, now what if I squished it all together and make the ribs HUGE and fused together so that they cover the whole body like a shell, what would that be like?". "But what about the actual ribs?" "Fuck 'em! The shell is enough!"

It would be an amazing outcome of billions of years of evolutionary process, but it looks to me like aliens designed life on Earth and were just fucking around to see what works and what these locomotive, grasping human social agents (us) could do in the world, kind of the same way we look at ants cooperating to form bridges.
