2*.9 = 1.8
2*.99 = 1.98
2*.999 = 1.998
2*.9999 = 1.9998
etc

.9 reoccurring = 1 so that is where you went wrong.
1/3 DOES NOT equal .3 reoccurring that is how they write it because it's the closest you can get using the decimal system, idiot.
Proven wrong.
How close are we to having a powered, armoured, exoskeleton? What major roadblocks (besides a source of portable power) are preventing one from being made?
>>8640017
none aside new batteries to power the suit.
The big thing is control mechanism.
You either need some kind of neural interface, or you need a machine learning system that can "follow" the movements of the person inside the suit, without accidentally breaking their legs/arms by making extreme motions.
>>8640048
How would a neural interface work? Would it be similar to a prosthetic?
What would be cheap way to get yourself out there as high as possible? Is it reasonable to use high altitude balloon (or balloons) to lift a man (or anything up to 80 kg)?
>>8639929
It really depends how long you plan on staying up there. High altitude ballooning, as you said, then jumping and parachuting down would work, a bunch of redbull fags do it all the time.
>>8639929
Just jump really high.

what is consciousness?
what is required for a robot to be given consciousness like us?
>>8639749
You simply need process the following:
Love = (0)!>0
Love = Truth
Love (x) = not knowing love (-x) × knowing love (x) = love (x) + love (x)
Births = INFINITE
[Pain | Pleasure] = GROWTH
Suffering = A TANGIBLE VALUE OF [PAIN | PLEASURE] THAT REACHES THE SUSTAINABLE THRESHOLD OF AN EXISTING [WAVEFORM &| VARIANCE]
Maths requires music to function.
>>8639800
love isnt real
>>8639749
How would you prove whether or not a robot is conscious? Or that a living being is conscious?
Consciousness is the manifestation of having thoughts. Maybe our subconscious mind has some sort of consciousness as well. How could we know? It's entirely subjective.
It's 1:1 fucking tard. D is a point on BC that bisects theta, meaning D is directly in the middle of BC.

Can someone explain how neurons work to a programmer?
Are they anything like transistors?
Also, how does the brain know when to create neurons and neural connections?
>>8639593
it's... fuking complicated, and not so well known. It's been a long time since my last biology class, but I'll try.
globally, a neuron is a transmission device. It recieves an electric impulse from one or more other neurons and transmit to one or more other neurons.
Two characteristics
-the neurone/neuron transmission (aka the synapse) is an activation treshold, which can vary between neurons.
-The signal may be amplified by the neuron.
no new neurons are created after adolescence
the creation of new neuronal connections I don't know or forgot.
If you study neural artificial intelligence in uni you have to take a course in biology specifically in neural networks in the brain. Cool stuff, might major in it myself
>>8639725
So, it's like a more-than logic gate, but the right side number is part of the synapse and also it's analog rather than binary?
Makes me wonder if that alone can be turing-complete.
Why do scientifically minded people allow this type if shit? It makes an essential component of civilization look like an embarrassing joke to the rest of society.
They must have a different definition of top than most people.

What is an insight you've had that changed you?
I realized that even if i were the most intelligent human on earth, relative to what's biologically possible i'd be probably almost intellectually indistinguishable from koko the gorilla.
It made me stop taking myself so seriously.

Welcome to Humanity. I am very happy you could join us :)
>>8639395
That no human being should ever be allowed to achieve biological immortality, because human beings have died before. People who attempt the former should be killed.
The logical end of this process is the extinction of mankind, which is fine because it prevents anyone from getting ahead in any really meaningful sense (of extended life), and especially in view of the lack of truth in religion in general - or even if it were true, then adhering to such for want of knowledge is no credit at all to the adherents, but rather indicative of a sad weakness, /even and especially in the case that a particular religion is by chance true/.
>>8639449
If human being is a subset of humanity, why would you introduce suffering by removing free will?
If extinction is a logical end of this process, would it not happen independent of your actions? You say no human being should be allowed to achieve biological immortality, are you implying an alternative form of immortality?

So what do you think governments and leaders, society and the people would do with infinite energy (without any pollution or radiation) if we magically found it?
>magically find it
The Earth is negatively charged, carrying 500,000 Coulombs (C) of electric charge (500 kC),[2] and is at 300,000 volts (V), 300 kV,[3] relative to the positively charged ionosphere. There is a constant flow of electricity, at around 1350 amperes (A) [approximately 1100 A][3], and resistance of the Earth's atmosphere is around 220 Ohms.[3] This gives a power output of around 400 megawatts (MW), which is ultimately regenerated by the power of the Sun that affects the ionosphere, as well as the troposphere, causing thunderstorms. The electrical energy stored in the Earth's atmosphere is around 150 gigajoules (GJ).

Immediately patent it and bury it.
>>8637264
Is there any way of tapping into that?
I've done some looking and the only thing I find are rudimentary articles and GI:Joe clips. I'd really like to see some simulations featuring shape of rod and angel of impact (kek, anyone here with spare supercomputer time?) I try to think of it and my mind just tells me it going to impact and punch through the ground like a paper hole-punch, with surface damage in carbomb territory. I imagine the extreme density and shape of the rod would make the impact notably different from a comparable asteroid impact.
You're probably looking for something like this

I'm actually in physics and planetary science and just finished a course on Impact Cratering.
Look for numerical simulations of hypervelocity iron meteorite impacts.
The density of the depleted uranium or tungsten would be nearly three times that of iron, and the rod shape would help. You'd definitely still get deeper penetration. But I don't think that it would be as significant as you would expect. You'd still be getting all of the energy deposited into a small space close to the surface.
That kind of energy concentration is what makes hypervelocity impacts more like shallowly-buried explosives than anything else. Because then the ground at the site of the impact and most of the impactor itself is melted or vaporized. The expanding shock wave blasts out a large portion of material and is responsible for most of the damage, followed by the super-sonically expanding vapor.
So yeah. Depending on its mass, how far it had to fall, it would definitely still be fucking shit up.
My grad student friend actually did a lot of research and simulations on this.
Which subject did you find the most difficult at university?

Took an aesthetics class to fulfill the GE art requirement. Probably wouldn't have been as hard
if I had some background in philosophy, still got an A tho.

I found humanities classes the most difficult due to participation being a significant portion of my grade and having severe social anxiety for the first half of undergrad (when I had to take humanities classes)
