I'll take a general topology course this semester and there's three books from its bibliography that I managed to download. Which would you recommend?
>Dugundji, Topology
>Kelley, Topology
>Munkres, Topology (2nd Edition)

I'm not a complete beginner, but I'd like to hear some opinions. Pic unrelated

210 = 2*3*4*5.

We should switch to a base 210 system with 210 individual single digit symbols. The first two digit number would be 210, represented as 10. 44100 would be represented as 100. All numbers would be represented much simpler, and this would give everyone a much better intuitive understanding of numbers, leading to better general mathematical ability, provided we can get over the initial hurdle of teaching people all the symbols.

Multiplication and division are also made easier due to 210 having four prime factors, so division of any number in this base does not yield a recurring number until the divisor contains a prime factor of 7 or above.

Is there any reason not to implement this other than the current ubiquity of the 10 digit system? I'm sure all the symbols can be taught at an early age.

For something that a pure, crystalline mineral, yes, if your fingernail is scratching the surface it is softer than your fingernail in terms of Hardness.

That image is definitely Talc though, that's exactly what it looks like in nature, before being processed into a powder.

Finishing my undergrad Bsc in Physics this tear, and am thinking of doing a 1 year Masters in 'High performance and scientific computing'.
I have limited experience in Python from a simple Physics Simulation module I took and some project Euler problems I did in my spare time. I want to develop my computational physics skills this year before I start the masters so is there a recomended textbook to work through? Should I work through a Computational physics book or a computer science book?

I'm also doing a dissertation on Black holes, Gravity waves and the LIGO detector so if anyone can reccomend good background reading, that'd be great.

You're probably going to want to learn C and Fortran. Python alone just won't cut it for HPC. As for books, I can't think of any (although I'll admit I'm not that familiar with the subject).

>Should I work through a Computational physics book or a computer science book?

Why not both? In my (limited) experience, Computational Physics does not need super advanced programming skills, but it does require some knowledge about numerical mathematics.

We learn about farm equipment and machinery and improvements in that field. I would have figured it'd be high paying

So, I hear that giant robots and giant aliens wouldnt be able to exist because of all the problems they would have with physics(square cube law, density, ect ect)

But why? There were colossal animals way back when, easily thrice or more the height of a giraffe.

So could someone who has understanding of biology and physics tell me why it's unfeasible to have a fifty foot woman?
18 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
>>8640708
Simple really.
You double in height muscle mass only doubles but overall weight is squared.

There comes a size in which muscle mass can compensate.
Legs break bones snap human is dead.

In your picture... look at those fucking feet!
Increased surface area, short but wide legs with minimum joints and a small neck and head.

That is all nature can do with Carbon based DNA.
>>
>>8640719
so the overall problem for having a human like organism taller than we are is the weight?

Is there a way to circumvent this problem in a manner that might be somewhat feasible?

>>8640664
What the fuck do you need a red pill for?

A set of vectors is independent if none of them can be written as a linear combination of the others.

A set of vectors is dependent if at least one (all) of them can be written as a linear combination of the others.

That's it. Here's your PhD in linear algebra. Congratulations.

All matter is made of looped strings. All matter gravitates towards other matter in relation to distance. In a finite universe, it can be expected that all matter will eventually converge into a central mass. So, since all matter is implied to be converging like this, it's implicit that it's naturally moving towards its ideal state.

Because of the immense amount of this force would have on itself, all the O, O2, O3, Fe, everything would pull to the center of gravity, and this immense gravity well would cause all protons and neutrons to combine into a singular mass, with all the electrons being simultaneously cast out outside of its dense core(muh big bang???)

In this state, also, all the looped strings would become interwoven(might be interlooped but that sounds way more poetic for my hypothetical event). This would be of course a infinitesimally small amount of time, but for the moment when it was essentually one singular protoatom, it would be in mass's true form and ideal state.

If the building block of all mass is implied to be the string, then I would wager that all strings are attempting to reach this ideal state, which creates gravity by proxy. Now, because all matter is made of these, all matter could be implied to be broken or fractured as is in our present state. However, when all mass is encompassed into this protosingularity, it has successfully achieved its ideal state, and so its observable qualities would be indicitive of its building blocks, not how many protons it happened to keep after the fracturing.

Because what defines what an element is is its protons and such, in this case, the observable qualities of this mass would be more indicitive of its most basic parts and not of how many protons and such it has.
