When did you realize you were a brainlet?

>failed trig a second time

Starting next semester Im just a business major.

Its not fair, Ive loved science my whole life. Everyone always called me so smart.

what do you mean you failed trig? Is that a freshman course there? What kind of things did you learn about? Also I've seen PhDs messing up the sin and cosine signs so don't feel too bad.
>>
>>8643305
messing up the sign of a trig function's output years later when you're doing research on something unrelated is not evidence that failing trig is "okay."

hey 4chan
if you were at yor first year as undergrad in maths what you wish you would know before you start/finish your first year like
> books/textbooks you WYW read
> protips you WYW heard
> mistakes you made and you WYW avoid
> working hours per day you WYW accoustomed to
> websites/blogs you WYW knew about

anything will be appreciated

>books/textbooks
Read a tour through mathematical logic before the semester starts and then sit down, relax, and see how every piece of mathematics simply falls into place.

>protips

If you are struggling with a proof, take a break to jerk off, play videogames, eat, sleep, etc. and then come back to the problem. Do this always that you get stuck for more than 10 minutes without writing a new argument.

If you can't do a proof then you can always excuse that by telling yourself that you do not know the specific theorems needed to prove it. Then browse /sci/ and call other people brainlets to know you are not one.

Don't be a fucking book faggot and just keep a bunch of e-books in your phone, tablet whatever. When you are bored just start reading one. Try doing exercises in your brain but if that is not possible then there is no shame in also having a notebook and pen with you at all times to practice more.

Constantly think about mathematics. If a mathematical thought does not pass through your mind every hour then drop out and be the filthy engineer you were always meant to be.

>working hours per day

Work smarter, not harder or longer. Every day lurk the /SQT/ or have a book with random proof exercises and do at least one that you feel is right at your level. After that do whatever from reading more mathematics to jerking off. Jerking off while reading mathematics is the way of the field medalist.

Now, I am not saying you should only do1 problem. You should only force yourself to do 1 problem. As you love mathematics, odds are that out of curiosity you will explore 5 to 10 different problems a day in a more casual manner.

>websites/blogs

/sci/ is indispensable. /SQT/ to practice problems that "randomly" come to you (you can't predict what will be asked in a SQT thread) and other threads to keep your ego high as you shit on inferior majors.

Stackexchange but the same but in a more serious background if that is your thing.

I guess it is "wish you would'.

What do you wear to class/ while working on academic things? I find that when I'm clean and dressed nice, I learn better and my mind is sharper. Usually to class I wear nice khakis, comfy thick socks, a button-up shirt and a sweater. I also wear a tie on test days.

This doesn't mean I don't do homework in my pajamas, but I'll wear nice newer pajama pants and an undershirt instead of some old gym and a holey shirt.

Does anyond else feel the same? Do you think uni's should have a dress code to improve drive and academic performance among students?

I don't really have a strong feeling on the topic.

I think I have only read good things about uniforms but seems to take a bit away from the fun of living.
>>
>Do you think uni's should have a dress code to improve drive and academic performance among students?

Intadesting, but I don't think so. I understand the whole look-good-feel-good kinda thing, but everyone feels good in different things, so to impose a dress code would undermine the academic performance of those who, say, feel comfortable and work better in baggy sweatpants and a sweater with a beer logo on it.

Not to mention the impact on self-expression, which is pretty important to a lot of people.

>tl;dr different strokes for different blokes ==> it probably wouldn't work for everyone.

Yes, in fact more than a few weeks if you use nuclear power. Hot air balloons are pretty much the only practical method to float in such places

But seriously, not just hipster antivax bullshit, but mindfulness meditation really does lower both acute and chronic anxiety.

If its just a pill you want it depends. Panic attacks are often treated with xanax, generalized anxiety disorders with SSRIs, but really, you gotta get to the root of the problem, whether its an environmental factor or if its your own perception of the situation.

I need some hard evidence that proves just how improbable microwave "mind control" satellites are.

Disclaimer: I don't believe in it at all, but I never see anyone refute the claims that these wackos make. Even if it is just scoffable pseudo-science.

Thanks.

Don't even attempt that, you are literally wasting your time and get trapped in the conspiracy flow chart, which is pretty simple:

All arguments on basis of common sense or plausibility are discarded as unscientific and all scientific arguments are discarded as contrived jew propaganda or something similar.

You have no chance. They don't believe that bullshit because they are stupid, uneducated or been lied to, they believe that bullshit because they really, really want to believe it.
>>
"Mind control" is really just an emergent factor of society. It's in the propaganda on the television, it's on anonymous message boards online, it's in conformity.

Now, as for shit like MK Ultra, that was first and foremost a Machiavellian effort to maintain hegemony just like all other military experimentation. And it failed as far as we know. Beyond that, who knows? It's not worth ruminating over.

>deep ocean water pumps + bio-engineered algae

Deep ocean water has more nutrients but algae can't make use of it because light doesn't reach down there. Use a wave powered water pump to move that water to the surface, combined with some algae that convert C02 into solid carbon the same way diatoms create pure shells of silicon, then harmlessly float to the sea floor once they die. This will remove huge amounts of C02 from the ocean, deposit it in solid form on the seafloor, and allow the ocean to absorb even more C02 to fix our atmosphere at the same time.

While we're pumping seawater from the bottem of the ocean, we could also extract uranium, for nuclear reactors, as well as other preciousness rare metals from sea water.

Ok, fuck this pretentious shit. Latex has to be the very worst thing ever programmed. "hurr we're gonna make an 'easy' typesetter for science and math, BUT WAIT, let's make it more convoluted and stupid than fucking JavaScript so even people who have been using it for 12 years still have to constantly google how to do stupid shit like add a degree sign!"

Are there any better options out there? Aside from Google Docs and shit?

Yeah, fuck ALL that bullshit on the left. There is no fucking reason in 2017 I should have to type a fucking novel to produce a single page of equations for a publication. How is there not a middle ground between inaccessible homework websites and convoluted latex bullshit? How does Word or something similar not handle this already?

Lads, I will start studying Psychology next month, and I would like to ask you, which are is the best? What kind of research should I focus on? (I plan to become a teacher/researcher.)
One subject of my interest are Jungian archetypes, and I was thinking about trying to make a proper link between them and our underdeveloped instincts, but this interest might change once I get in.

I was bored and typed sqrt(546) into wolfram and made it show as many digits as it was capable of. How come there are so many strings of repeating numbers? Dubs, trips, hell even some quads. Didn't look very hard so I don't know if there are any quints.

Is this true for any irrational number?
40 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>8638570
Why not? Suppose that every digit appears randomly. Then caluclate the probability of appearing dubs, trips, hell even some quads.
>>
Its probable that the program works on some sort of a sequence to generate randome numbers. And after the sequence is done it kinda starts repeating itself
