There should a pre-requisite to posting on /sci/ that would require you to solve a trigonometric triple integral, just to filter out all the brainlets.

Why we still use oil? Is there any scientific reason or is it just capitalism?

Yeah, I'm gonna say capitalism is at the root of it.

For example: It's no coincidence that almost 100% of Republicans are skeptics or deniers -- just follow the money

Hey all, semi-brainlet here. Came across the subject of gravitoelectromagnetism and for the life of me can't stop imagining flying saucers. I realize the effects we see are ridiculously tiny, but if there's a way around that it the reported behavior of ufo flight really looks plausible.

Feel free to rid me of this notion.

It is generally believed that all four forces of nature can be explained with a single theory, said theory does not yet exist but theories combining some of the existed forces(electroweak, gravitomagnetism, etc etc) lead credence to the idea that a single unifying theory ca exist
>>
>>8684207
My impression was that this was less a matter of combining fields as it is finding a parallel between them. Maybe the fact that it does so implies something more, but I'm not seeing how it matters here.
>>
>>8684198
Gravity is the weakest of the 4 forces.it's about 100 000 000 000 times weaker than EM so GEM and EM wouldn't make a difference that is significant.

Anyone else here used to be smart but became a brainlet?
I spent a couple of months washing dishes as a part time job, but I'm a lanklet and the kitchen sink were I worked was pretty low.

I think spending so much time bending over must have deprived my brain of too much oxygen and now I feel really stupid.

Why are Limits called Limits /sci/? Limit generally implies a maximum or minimum reach of an object, but the limit in maths is absolutely not that. In fact when we read lim x-> 0 we tend to read it as x approaches zero, so why is "app." or something along that not a better notation for limits?
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>8683740
a limit if
>a point or level beyond which something does not or may not extend or pass

you (usually) take the limit of f at x because f does not exist at x, so you take the definition of f for x > 0 beyond its limits to x = 0.
>>
>>8683740

Let's talk about metaphysics. Specifically to discuss these questions: Is the solar system just an atom in some larger body of mass? Are atoms tiny solar systems with living organisms inside of some of them?

I genuinely thought that I was the only human being on this planet smart enough to conceive these ideas. I also believe that life is just an infinite loop, where we try to answer mundane questions.

>The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. After he drove the man out, he placed on the east sidee of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

Science can certainly make "immortality" possible. We can find drugs, and genetic coding to biologically extend our lives. We could find a way to copy the biological storage of our brains and transmute that into artificial storage.

Both these outcomes are possible if you think about it. Merely barriers with which we must apply our intellect.

The thing is, our ancient Religions, (and not just the Christian ones mind you) are unanimous in their consensus that for man to make himself immortal is a curse. An unforgivable sin against nature that carries with it the most dire of consequences.

You don't even need to believe in god to realize just how fucked up things could get if we discovered a method for immortality.

Science only reaches conclusions that are supported by the statistical analysis of data. Therefore, in the end, anything we conclude regarding causation can only every be supported by correlation.

causation = correlation

prove me wrong
25 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
The problem with writing that out like an equation is that it's not reversible. The Symmetric Property of algebra doesn't apply.
>>
>>8683430
is it not true if I say it the other way?

correlation = causation
>>
>>8683434
Yes.

In fact, equality is not the symbol you want to use here. You want to use [math]\implies[/math]. Equality means that causation and correlation literally mean the same thing. Equality it transitive, implication is not.

I want to go and study a semester as an exchange student and these countries are my possibilities:

Austria
Cyprus
Italy
Malta
Portugal
Spain
Switzerland

Any anons from these countries? How is higher education and what are some good universities you would recommend someone studying Robotics should look in to?
Also how is it being student in your country like school, price and sparetime wise?

>>

I dunno, I never looked into the program in detail. I was under the impression you could take courses pretty much anywhere in Europe offering an equivalent degree.
