What do you guys think about situations like these. Where a fossil (in this case a tree) extends up through sedimentary layers. Which are supposed to take millions of years to form?
12 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Supposedly those are select cases where it happened real quick.. So how are we supposed to know which layers are ancient and which aren't?
>>
I have a large bone for you to examine
>>
>>8735982
A few things: Trees used to have retardedly long lifespans, and before the advent of land life blooming, there were few or no natural decomposers, so forests could die standing up. Also, it's possible for a geological event such as a volcano eruption, earthquake, or landslide to encase the fossil in question in rock, setting it there.

can /sci/ please explain me how we can see back to the beginning of the universe? I'm like, nigga, the beginning of the universe is not some distant place, we ourselves originated there and extended outwards, so the light from that point was obvious moving faster than us to the fringes of the universe, light moves fastest, right??? So light from beginning of universe would have already left the universe! So what are we really looking at? Holograms, that's wut. Niggga.

spacetime is expanding faster than light
>>
>>8735355
We are very far from the origin of the Universe and the light from there from a long time ago is only getting to us now because of comsic bullshit. Think about how we only see a star explode long after it happens.

39 posts and 3 images submitted.

Energy required is infinitely high

Because the gears themselves wouldn't be able to handle the torque while moving at the speed of light. . . they'd literally disintegrate.
>>

Virus doesn't have any metabolism or active functions while it's outside a host cell, therefore it's not considered "alive".

Can we have a discussion on Quantum Mechanics VS Pilot Wave Theory?

I'm sure you guys know all about that fuckin' double slit bullshit, and how the brilliant people of our scientific community interpreted the data.

Super positioning and fucking probabilities and SHIT. FUCKING BUUUUUUUUUUUUUH. Super positioning and fucking infinite probability bullshit only exists on paper. It doesn't make a fucking lick of sense.

The assumptions made with the many worlds theory and shit like that are fucking ridiculous
.
>You're assuming that every possible path the particle could take, and every position within those paths the particle could be at are all equally real.

So you know how everything we've seen and experienced so far. UP TO THIS POINT. Has indicated that there is one world. If you're not looking at your desk it isn't exploding/imploding/falling over/growing a dick or whatever is even remotely possible. You can't say for 100% certainty that your desk is still there. But that doesn't mean it both is and isn't there. You just can't confirm it. YOU CAN ASSUME. Just like you can assume the universe isn't going to disappear tomorrow.

>ALSO ASSUMING that the human brain/soul/fuckyou is special. SO fucking special that us consciously observing SNAPS the universe out of its infinite probabilities into one single probability. But not anything else. Not transference of energy, not transference of information or light or any of that shit. No it has to be observed by a White Cis Male Scientist in order for it to exist in a single possibility.

You go from. Hmm.. weird. I'm not sure how this particle is making an interference pattern... OH I KNOW FUCKING MULTIVERSE DUH. AND IM SPECIAL. OBVIOUSLY, I HAVE A DIPLOMA TO PROVE IT. I MUST BE CREATING OR PULLING THIS REALITY OUT OF THE FUZZY SOUP OF INFINITE RANDOMNESS.

fuck off. How about the particles are riding on waves and we skip all the mystical psuedo-science-give-me-funding bullshit.

Will humans evolve to metabolize sugar better, considering we eat so much of it?
27 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>8734034
no.

evolution as we understand it is dead with humans. intelligence and civilization is making us weaker as a species by allowing the weak to reproduce.
>>
>>8734034
>>8734040
I won't claim to be an expert at evolution, that having said I think both of you are wrong.
Only if:
>People who metabolize sugar better reproduce more
>People who do not metabolize sugar that well end up not reproducing

As for evolution not happening, yes it happens. There is still sexual selection and genetic drift.

The weak reproducing doesn't matter as far as I know, unless the weak would be sexually attractive or something.
>>
>>8734040
If someone reproduces they are, definition brought by natural selection, not weak. You don't understand evolution.

>>8734034
There's no reason to do so.

I'm bored and am humbly seeking a little entertainment. Several years ago I bought quite a few mediocre games for a steam sale, but they're just gathering dust. Anyone who solves this integral gets all of it.
[math] p<n-1 [/math] and [math] p,n \in \mathbb{N}^* [/math]

[eqn] \int \frac{\cos^p x}{\sin{nx}} dx [/eqn]

Solution requirements: closed form and at least understand the solution if you, somehow, used a computer

I need a little help from anyone capable...

My company is looking to ship 1000s of the packages around the US, the problem is as follows:

The packages contains pods in pic related - they have liquid in them, and sometimes during air travel, the difference in pressure causes them to leak. We can send them ground, but the cost is more than triple

They are only 6oz packages so if we use first class USPS, its very cheap. However we need to address the issue of leaking.

Is there anyway to protect the pods from being exposed to this - such as using a shrink wrap machine to wrap the box - we have one, and the plastic on it is quite thick. As far as what Ive found, the pressure in cargo is approx 8000ft, or around 10 psi, so there is a difference of 5.

Will the plastic seal, if air-tight, prevent this, the plastic shouldnt burst because it is thick.... or is there some other way I should consider?
13 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>8733096
Since the pressure is higher inside the the thing, I don't think shrink wrap will protect it. Do you send them to the buyers, or do you ship them in bulk from place A to place B? If you do bulk, you could put the whole shipment inside a pressurized container. Or if the failure rates are low enough, you may just say fuck it and have 2% of them fail, if you're still better off shipping them than sending them by truck. Also, are you sure it's the pressure, and not the vibrations or something else? Btw, you could nigger rig a vacuum chamber and test your ideas that way.
>>
1. Change production so the juice can be added to pods after shipping.

2. If loss of product by air is less than cost of shipping by ground, continue to do so.

3. Ship by ground and raise the price.
