hey, 4chinz math fag here and i want to know about other fellows here who happend to be majoring in math too
what are you doing all the day?
how you concentrate on what you are doing?
how much work do you yield per week?
how to know the "best" next book to read for the sake getting rid of my stupidity?
how you serach for books/articles?
how i know what are the prequisites to fully understand the book and be able to solve all the proplems within it?
>>8720262
Im an engineering major if that counts. But im also semi retarded. So monitoring this thread
>>8720349
you're welcomed :3
>>8720262
1)study,gym.
2)coffe
3)A lot, I love what I do, study other math related stuff in my free time
4)the site Mathematics Stack Exchange will help you to find books, there's lot of questions of the kind: "what are the best books on x"
5)internet + professor advise
6)bro tip -> if you find a book that's just a little above your level try it, even if you don't have 100% prerequisites try it, this is a good way of advancing.
Is this just pseudoscience???

Not the hyperventilation, but the it "being amazing for exercise and focus" stuff
Well... cold showers have health benefits, there is no doubt about that.

Source?
How do I go from this to actual sound file (wav)? Possible? What algos would I need?
I'm asking because it would be cool if you could post a pic like this on an image board and then convert it to a (probably really shitty) audio file.
http://arss.sourceforge.net/examples.shtml
>>8720127
Interesting.
Do you know of any research that goes into making pictures that can be easily converted into sounds? I wonder what's the most efficient method to encode audio into a valid PNG file...
>>8720110
delete it and download the wav file of your choice
Could an alien species develop advanced technology and space travel without having a concept of or ability for language?
>>8720065
No.
The language wouldn’t have to be anything like the languages we use, but you can't have any significant level of technology without some kind of widely shared way of conveying detailed information.
>>8720093
>you can't have any significant level of technology without some kind of widely shared way of conveying detailed information
Doesn't that depend on the assumption the beings involved were limited enough in their senses to not pick up on what others were doing by observation instead of communication? Like if nervous systems were externalized in a way where you could tell what another person was thinking, then them telling you what they were thinking wouldn't be necessary.
>>8720106
Telling what someone was thinking would also require whatever displays they make to be structured in a way that you could understand. Basically, you'll end up with a language.
what's the best book on Analytical mechanics?
Goldstein

>>8719785
that's classical mechanics though.
Let me set the stage for you /sci/
I've gotta shit, so I go to the restroom. I take off my bulky woolen jacket and naturally I generate a static charge. I sit down on the toilet and nudge myself forward, and sure as shit, when my dick approached the bowl, a bolt of lightning shot right out of the eye of my cock.
So this brings me to the question, does porcelain actually conduct electricity? I assumed it didn't, but I've got some empirical evidence suggesting otherwise.
pic related, it's mfw my shlong became a lightning rod
bump for an answer
the sting may be gone but the mystery lives on
We got a thread for short questions.
No need to make topic for each individual tiny question.

is this some kind of thinly-veiled insult?
Is autism hereditary? If you have an autistic relative, what are the chances that your children will have autism? I want to engage in the creation of human beings with my female, but she knows that autism runs in my family, and neither of us want to end up raising children who are incapable of furthering the species.

Absolutely.

Can someone tell me if this image is real?
>>8719613
someone put baked beans in a toothpaste tube to be funny.
Looks real to me.
>>8719619
For some reason your comment made me chuckle more than the picture itself.
If I have something incredibly massive (x10^21) that moves incredibly slowly (x10^-11) it has a tiny kinetic energy but a massive momentum.. can someone explain this to me? Does it imply I could stop it with my bare hands?
>>8719589
Try stopping a car moving 10mph and try stopping a pencil moving 10mph. It will be different.
>>8719597
Do you have proof of this?
>>8719589
Generally when two things collide, nature doesn't want them to occupy the same space. So the choices are two:
Object A matches object B's speed or goes even faster thanks to springs n shit
Object B matches object A's speed thanks to springs n shit
A bit of both
In collision you generally die to massive acceleration, or massive deceleration after you're massive accelerated. If something has very big mass and goes very slow you can accelerate pretty gently to its speed.
So how come we can just invent things on paper but then think hard about them and discover things we would have never expected even when just following logic and not making stuff up?
It's almost like we're discovering things instead of just making things up.
But that's crazy.

Good job, there must be some BEARDED SKYDADDY out there who will take care of you after you die! Congratulations on your very high IQ, you've figured it alllllll out! Impressive!
What's the point of the Physics Engineering degree?
My University offers this program and I don't understand the appeal when you can literally have a Physics degree if you like Physics or literally any other Engineering degree that specializes on a subject of your interest and not something vague as "Physics"
>>8719332
Let me introduce you to a world in which changes in university structure are not made by real, tangible disciplines, but instead by the financial interest of universities themselves
This is how it happened. Some university called a board meeting.
A: Okay people, we need MORE MONEY. We need more students. What does the data show?
B: We are noticing that there is an irregularly large number of students double majoring in physics and engineering. Furthermore, the same is the case for students who get into engineering and then switch to physics, and vice versa.
A: I see, so are you telling me there are many students that want to study both physics and engineering? Maybe if we do something to appeal specifically to these students, many new students who would double major in other universities will instead decide to come to us.
B: Yes!
A: So what can we do for those students? How do we make more of them come into our university? We should make something that makes it easier to be both a physicist and an engineer, so that every person with that desire gets pulled into us!
C: Engineering Physics.
A: What? Does that exist? Is that a discipline of engineering or physics?
C: No. I just made it up. Lets make it up. Lets make a new degree called "Engineering Physics" and then lets randomly pick classes from both programs and call it a curriculum.
A: But what will Engineering Physics be really about? How can we sell it!
C: https://physics.stanford.edu/undergraduate-program/bs-engineering-physics
A: GENIUS. IT IS TIME TO MAKE MOOOOOOOOREEEEEEEEE MOOOOOOONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY
B: But sir! Won't those students know that this degree is not really teaching them to be physicists nor engineers?
A: That's the thing. Lets fucking lie. Lets tell the students that even though this is a regular 4 year degree, that this will teach them both disciplines. Even though that would theoretically take at least 6 years. WHO CARES. As long as we get their money, who gives a fuck.
>>8719391
>https://physics.stanford.edu/undergraduate-program/bs-engineering-physics
To be fair, I feel someone with a degree in Engineering Computational Patty Flipping from Stanford would still be more qualified to be an engineer than me, with me shitty state school EE degree.
>>8719391
Sounds like this literally happened, but even if that's the case, I study in a public University, what benefit would they have from having an Engineering Physics program? It's not like they are over our money, since we don't really have very much
This function generates even and odd numbers:
k=1/6((2*y+3)3^(x+1)-3)
But I want only the odd k's, how do I do that?
>>8719230
x,y eof N* of course
anyone?
>>8719230
Output all integers where k%2=!0?
What does /sci think about Hollow Moon ?

Probably not true.
>tfw finally a good student
Haven't missed a class, been getting good grades in precalc ips English and chem
Guys I might get through college after all
well GOOOOD FOOOOOOOR YOU
I have been trying so fucking hard to be a good student.
it would honestly be piss-easy if i didn't have a girlfriend. but I swear to god.
> Literally can't work at home. Whatsoever.
> have to stay on campus 12 hours a day to get any work done
> get guilted about staying on campus all day
> come home early
> don't get shit done
> stay anyway
> fight when we get back, stay up super fucking late sorting it out
> get no work done the next day because tired.
> Try to go to bed early
> she gets shitty for me not staying up with her
> Stay up an extra three hours. And have class three hours ealier than her in the morning.
> Still don't get shit done because tired.
> assaulted with guilt from every direction no matter my choice.
I don't know what to fucking do. I keep trying to explain to her that I need to stay on campus to work, that I literally can't get work done if I don't get a solid 7+ hours of sleep, etc. But I still keep feeling like the bad guy.
And she keeps being upset and confused and tells me she has no idea what the fuck I'm doing on campus everyday.
> She's an education major.
> I'm a Physics/Planetary double major (like astrophysics, but asteroids instead - orbital dynamics, accretion, etc.).
> She has no idea what the fuck studying is.

Hmm well ill help you dispite the gayest blog post evere here we go.
You're in a codependent relationship in a young age basically ur addicted to love.
Heres what you do
1.Grab one of pic related(I like purple)
2.Suck it up
