Hey 4chan,

I have had some life incidents happen recently and believe I am not originally from this planet. I believe I have been "planted" here to help raise the consciousness of Earth. I won't go into detail, but I have been doing some serious meditation lately and have come to discover these ideas about the nature of existence. Maybe these ideas are already out there and being discussed by the scientific community. I'm not really in that loop. I thought I'd post here and see.

I have posted a picture about the particle/wave theory of quantum mechanics. The truth is we are all one and everything is happening at once. Things only expand for us to have our individual perception of them.

This idea ties everything together from the particle/wave theory to Campbell's Monomyth. We have a thought, as soon as we do, the old part of us dies, we can no longer be the person we were before the thought. We shed our old self, bring the thought into action or the physical, then return to experience and share the thought with others, but we're really sharing it with ourselves because we are all one. So the "universe" is in a perpetual cycle of life/death, but really there is no life or death. There is only each of us perceiving events from our own perspective. Everything that can happen has already happened. There is no past, present, or future, there is only your perception of everything based on your perspective.

>From another planet

If I have a function f(a,b) -> k and another function g(c,d) -> k

and k is equal to N and a,b,c,d are elements of N (so that for each tuple (a,b) and (c,d) there is a k in N)

Does always a function p(x) and u(x) exist so that p(a)=c and u(b)=d ?

>>
>k is equal to N
>there is a k in N
I don't know what you're trying to say but [math]k = N [/math] and [math]k \in N [/math] can't both be true. There is a theorem that says that a set never contains itself as an element.
>>
>>8768918
You mean is there a function from N to N? Yes...
>>
the two functions have the same output for every k in N, so they must be the same function. hence, a = c and b = d, and the functions p(a) = x and u(b) = y give p(a) = a = c and u(b) = b = d.

I studied pure math all my academic life. Ended up specializing in mathematical logic and algebra. Got a masters degree. Pure math was an obvious path to me but I never had any passion for it. I aimed for research in pure math because it seemed like the least degrading job I could get. If I didn't have to complete assignments or review papers for graded projects, I wouldn't even think of math as a hobby. Masters thesis was rough since I couldn't motivate myself to wake up everyday and work without a social environment pushing me. I often discuss philosophy, history, psychology with classmates/friends, but never mathematical concepts, as they are mostly empty to me.

Somehow I ended up here because I used to think empirical sciences were not noble or not true enough, and using math to make money was selling your soul. The irony is that now I am an automatic prover with no soul anyway. Now the only logical followup to my studies is a phd in pure math, but it seems like wasting three years for a title, and finding fundings in fundamental areas is a fucking pain in the ass. I like the freedom that the job of researcher offers though.

Is it more motivating to work in easier/trendy topics in applied math, whether it is as a researcher or normal money-making job?

Jobs are like halting problems: you'll never know for sure if a particular job is 'degrading' or 'motivating' unless you try it out, and if you don't act until you have the 'perfect' job, you won't get anywhere at all.

I stopped at undergrad and got a "data scientist"-like job at a research institute that in practice amounts to doing 'trivial' tasks like optimizing code for non-programmers. It felt terrible until I realized one day that I was effectively getting paid to solve Project Euler problems that are not only intellectually challenging but yield immediate and concrete benefits. I've been well-motivated ever since.

> Ended up specializing in mathematical logic and algebra

I think I may have read more math on the job than I did in my curricular university environment (got into computation theory, logic, set/type/category theory etc.).
This may be my bias speaking, but I believe that discrete math is only going to become more important in the 'real' world, and businesses will become more discerning and more demanding for 'good' algorithms as they start to recognize the importance of fundamentals. Depending on your specialization, you could end up at the apex of the automation food pyramid, though I don't know if that's motivating for you or not.

That reminds me of a question I've had for a while: do you know if it's possible for the continuum to have cardinality [math]\aleph_\omega[/math] in ZF (not C)? The usual refutation makes use of Konig's theorem, so it seems like [math] 2^{\aleph_0} = \aleph_\omega[/math] could be consistent with ZF, but I haven't studied enough set theory to know how to construct the model.

I imagine the universe like a giant computer simulation, just because conscious beings are not observing things, doesn't mean that they don't have a fixed state.

Surely there is something wrong with quantum theory if things exist in two states unless being observed.

how do you bribe a professor? I was thinking about $10 per 1%, so it would be $760 for a passing C. Would this work? If I just put a bunch of twenties in an envelope, I could just deny everything. This is literally my last prereq, I just need to pass this class before I can transfer.

wut
Is there a curve or is this some sort of calc 1 for """"""forestry"""""" majors (read: brainlets)?
>>
>>8768239
under normal circumstances you would only need to take forestry brainlet calc (READ: applied calculus for the life sciences) but since my area doesn't have anything like that, regular calc1 must suffice. The only reason calc is even required for forestry is because its a blanket req. for ALL life sciences, since apparently biology etc. uses it, I guess

I know and have talked to over 17 people working in my future industry, not a single one used calculus past college, it simply isn't required when you have a computer. Doing mapping? computer handles it. field samples? not used. controlled burn? c o m p u t e r

I am the only person in the entire class who isnt engineering/CS. I almost want to make the case to the professor, but I'm not sure if it will offend them that I really just want a C in the class to fill a bullshit req. and get back to studying trees

Let me get one thing perfectly clear I do not hate gays and I do not heavily support them, they do their thing, and I'll do mine. I am looking at these matters from a scientific standpoint not a biblical or hateful way in any kind. Let me ask all of you one question, what is the most direct purpose of life? To reproduce spread your seed, create a specimen that is stronger and better evolved and equipped the the ones before it. And every living being has the desire from the moment they are born to mate and reproduce for the survival of their species. Gays and transgender go against that. They completely desert the original meaning for sex, when having it with partners of the same sex. They can not reproduce this way and it goes against the biological wiring that they are programed to execute. The species or specimen they fail to mate a reproduce fail, gays are in terms "failing". To go against the nature of what is normal for ideal behavior and actions is a syndrome of some sorts such as asperger's. I do believe that gays don't do harm directly, but they discontinue geens, bloodlines and families. Although they may help out with depopulating the earth. To dismiss homosexuality as a personal choice and a not a medical diagnostic is a mistake, because people are too afraid of the repercussions. It would by some called bigotry and hate speech to classify their "DEVINE" feelings and choices as a fault in the human brain. I would like all of you to share your thoughts please even if you hate my ideas I would like a valid reason for why, and have an intelligent argument on this subject.

The problem is the world has become far too 'pc'. Also most people are incredibly short sited and mentally incapable of thinking of humans as another animal on this planet. You can see it plainly when someone says anything along the lines of "look at that animal x, it's displaying a human emotion/trait/action (such as a dog saying 'i love you, which obviously is not the case)". The majority of 1st world people have devolved into mindless reactionary beings who's purpose in life is the current moment and fail to think even a microsecond ahead unless directed to.

Anybody /chemistry/ here?

-- --

What is the basic gestalt of extraction?

What are some basic solvents and techniques that are used for this purpose?

What chemical properties do you need to pay attention to?

Most importantly, when attempting to extract a certain chemical from a substance, how do you avoid bringing in unwanted chemicals, especially unknown chemicals in the substance that haven't identified thanks to the lack of MS-GLC analyses and etc.?

Furthermore, if wanted to learn more about these processes, what subfields of chemistry should I study?

-- --

I know general chemistry, a smidgen of organic chemistry, and a smidgen of analytical chemistry. I understand how the structure of molecules determines polarity/nonpolarity and how this affects intermolecular forces. What I don't understand is how people aren't killing themselves by accidentally and/or unknowingly extracting, let's say, a neurotoxin from a plant with promising medicinal purposes for a biotech industry.

This question was inspired by the "how2synthesizeLSD" thread that was recently deleted, but I'm not interested in drugs insofar as I'm interested in how ANY sort of extraction works, whether you're extracting caffeine from coffee beans to DMT from a mimosa plant.
